I was evacuated from Fire Island during Hurrican Irene, so I had a chance to visit Le Soir this evening. I was warmly welcomed and waited on right away with a basket of French baguette bread with unsalted sweet butter. I began with a glass of an excellent very dry Blanc de Blanc white wine ($9) along with my appetizer, Ris de Veau Grenobloise $15.00 (six sautéed veal sweetbreads, served with croutons, capers and lemon in a rich butter sauce.) Sweetbreads are not common on menus anymore, but I love them - occasionally. These sweetbreads were so tender I could cut them with my fork. Every entree comes with soup and salad. I ordered a rich pureed vegetable soup and a dinner salad of mixed greens with a tangy lemon dressing. For my main course, I ordered Canard Rôti à l’Orange $31.00 (Long Island roast duck with orange sauce.) I also had a very dry and superb glass of red wine - Cuvee Rouge ($9). The half-duck portion was excellent and served with wild rice, spaghetti squash and roasted beets. I was eager to try the duck, since an article in the NY Times reported that there are only five duck farms remaining on Long Island, down from over 120 farms in the 1950s. Yes, this was a lot of food! But I still had to try one dessert: a heavenly tart crumble with peach, pears and blueberries. The two waitresses, Sharon & Carolyn, provided excellent friendly service. They anticipated my every need and when I asked for anything extra (like ice or a seltzer), it was delivered within minutes. The simple yet elegant dining room was set with double white tablecloths and two fresh roses on every table. The ambiance, service and food exceeded my expectations. The restaurant has been in business since 1977 and has obviously maintained their quality and service. If you crave a classic French meal and are living or visting nearby, dont miss Le Soir.

Went to dinner for a special occasion - 4 people. I dont mind spending a lot of money for dinner, as long as its worth it. Our bill was over $400. Two of the dinners were the lobster special and the lobster was very tough and chewy and small. We did not complain because I was paying the bill and the other couple had suggested the restaurant so we were both too embarrassed. However, on the way home we discussed the fact that the lobster was inedible and I wrote a letter to LeSoir asking them to at least send a gift certificate to the couple whose anniversary we were celebrating. They never responded. Will not go back.

You cannot compare Le Soir to a French Restaurant in Paris, NO! it is more like visiting Normandy or Provence and finding a mom and pop who personally take everything and turn it into Gold. The Local Vegetables and Chicken and the fruits are turned from the farm into warm lovingly prepared delicious food. The soups are truly made from a talented and schooled Chef!! The Sauces are true French (Julia Childs recipes are the same) recipes. If you are lucky enough to get a table at this wonderful little gem, enjoy and dont tell too many people. Its hard enough to get one.

Ive been going to Le Soir on and off since it opened, oh so many years ago (30??). The food and the service has been consistently wonderful. Ive enjoyed a New Years Eve celebration on a few occasions as well as a wedding. The fire offered a rebuild and an expansion opportunity and the only down side I see from it is the acoustics arent as they had once been, although its nothing unbearable. I strongly recommend Le Soir for a very lovely dining experience.

Am going for the first time after the fire and cannot wait to see the new digs. Food at LeSoir is always superb and we always leave stuffed to the gills. Family faves...the duck a lorange. Coquilles St Jacques, any special and especially the chocolate mousse! Waitstaff are excellant having worked there for years. Le Soir is always on top of its game!

We discovered when it came to pay the bill, that they did not accept American Express Secure Pay cards, even though they took American Express credit cards. It was awkward and annoying. It would be helpful, let alone courteous, if there were some notice about this policy before hand.

Best French food on Long island. The flavors and textures where all perfect. I did get a little tummy ache after but Im sure it was my fault for over doing it with the sweetbreads and wine. Next time I go back I will double order the foir gras. It was unbelievable!

Top 3 restaurant on Long island in my opinion. Great food with large portions. Not your typical French restaurant, it is country French. Same people own and operate it forever and with a very professional staff it is a winner. Go there.

Not bad at all and probably a better choice for French food in sufolk. Some dishes are superb and some are good. Be careful with crazy old ladies .... after a glass of wine, you only hear them and cant have a conversation

The foods were very authentic. Pricing was reasonable for the quality. Nice portions. One pip: service folks appeared a little hurried and could not really spend time discussing menu.

Sweetbreads? More like bland glands. But thats the fun of trying new foods. Shrimps were bountiful and decadent. ...risotto, the best. Left full and happy, and will be back soon.

Service was really good but food was terrible, terribly overpriced for what it was, and my wife and I both got upset stomachs afterward (admittedly our son and other diners didnt).
