Took my date here. The first time for either of us at this establishment. Was seated and hot towels were brought. Drinks came quickly. Menu was well devised and has a "sushi" primer in it to tell you what things are and the differences in maki/sashimi/ nigiri..etc. This was an AWESOME touch! Both of us LOVE "sushi" and can eat a fair amount... I ordered two appetizers and the Omakase (5 course platter) it is designed for one, but was told it could satisfy two. Our waitress wasnt wrong. I wish I could remember the names of all the items separately, but suffice to say that everything came to the table with perfect timing in between each dish, each dish was beautifully plated and executed amazingly. While I must be honest and say that there were a couple of items I only thought were "okay"... this would be a matter of personal taste because Im not normally a fan of the item in question. The design and execution still struck me as flawless. Date was VERY happy with my choice and so was I... will DEFINITELY return and make a regular spot. (price-wise I think it was pretty standard... I been to more expensive and had less quality food, but 80$-ish dollars for 2 apps and a five course platter split between two people.. including tip seemed pretty good to me overall)

This is our go-to Japanese place. They have a pretty extensive appetizer menu and lots of dinner options. The sushi has always been fresh- weve never had to send anything back. The wait staff here are VERY friendly and they always make you feel welcomed fro the moment you walk in! The restaurant itself is cute and has 3 areas to sit: Back of the restaurant to the left has little to no windows (great for couples or large groups), to the right has the traditional wrap around sushi bar and also seats where you take your shoes off and sit Indian-style, and in the summer (the best in my opinion) is outside! There is a great big outdoor deck, with a fountain and built in area with flowers and little plants. We have tried so many entrees here; I would say you cant go wrong. They are also very flexible on allowing substitutions, which some places are not. They also have a full bar! They have a parking lot to the left of the building, which is convenient. Tip: In the summer they really crank the AC, so if youre prone to getting cold, you may want to grab something to throw on as it can get a little chilly!

Favorite Restaurant of my 4.5 year old daughter and where I proposed to my wife. I cannot say enough good things about this place. The food is expertly prepared and beautifully presented by a courteous staff led by the delightful and hardworking owner. Most amazing is the consistency, for over seven years my favorite dishes have been faithfully prepared and meet my high expectations every time. The lunch menu includes two and three roll combos that are served with miso soup at a price that should keep you out of the fast food drive through permanently (if you are lucky enough to live in the Portland area). If you like your fish cooked, check out the broiled Hamachi (Amberjack) cheek appetizer. Truly a delicious deal. Dont forget to ask your waiter what they recommend that day, you never know what treats popped out of the ocean today! Really, i kid you not, just go.

BAD SERVICE! The sushi is standard, good, nothing outrageous or original, but the absolute worst thing about Yosaku is their service. Otherwise its a cute place to go and sit outside. Our waiter was gruff and pretty unappreciative -- even after dropping $80 on our meal. He also completely forgot one of our sushi rolls, even though he wrote it down (never happened at an Asian restaurant before - WOW) -- and it wan an expensive one too! IDIOT! We gave him an OK tip, but he could have made more. Manager (maybe also the owner?) ran around smiling at patrons and seemed rather clueless. Around us, other tables complained to staff of forgetting things (an extra place setting, side of sauce that came with meal, 2nd round of drinks, etc). The service was notably chaotic.

Tak and Ram (the true sushi masters that run the place) hold it down at this authentic and fresh sushi bar. Besides providing the freshest sashimi and sushi in Portland (not to mention New England) their traditional Japanese dishes are sure to fulfill your Asian culinary desires. On top of the friendly chefs and fresh fish, they boast one of the most relaxing outdoor patios sure to add Zen to the evening. Four stars is the rating given due to the lack of service and long wait times during peak hours.... Do your inner culinary ninja a favor and go in either side of the dinner rush hour... A must try for any one wanting to eat out in Portland!! Be adventurous and let the sushi chefs choose your meal...

So disappointed to see the decline of this restaurant. I had been a very regular customer (couple times a month) until the last year. Service and food has fallen off the mark rapidly. Last visit it took 1 hr 25 mins to receive our food, when we did the sushi was warm and the hot food was soggy and cold. When I brought this up to the waitress she said the kitchen was backed up. Even though we saw several tables that were seated after us eat and leave before we got our food... we wont be returning

My sisters and I were there during the Labor Day weekend. We went there for dinner. Oh were we glad we did. We love the food and the atmosphere was great. We ordered the omakaze and a whole boatload of other stuff thinking it was not enough food. Let me tell you I thought I was going to explode. Everything was amazing. My sister was in sashimi heaven. Anyway, we are bringing the entire family there during Columbus Day weekend. So excited. Yosaku here I come!

Tried and loved a couple of sushi rolls there. The main event however was the extremely delicious nabe mono, a one pot soup with many tasty surprises, teaming with seafood, noodles, tofu, and vegetables. Its chefs choice of the day that goes into the soup. The broth was one of the best things I have ever tasted. Looking forward to going back to try more things or see what the chef chose to put in that soup. Also relaxed vibe in a casual atmosphere.

Im a regular here. I travel a lot and eat sushi all over the country and I have never found better sushi anywhere. Dont be fooled by the relaxed ambience and decor. Its not fancy here but the food is as good as it gets. Its also a great spot to dine with non-sushi eaters. They have plenty of delicious non-sushi options. Yosaku also has the best lunch deals in Portland. In a town with several good sushi options, this one is by far the best.

My family and I so enjoy having dinner with Tak and his team at Yosaku! Everything is prepared to order and with a Japanese flair that is clearly unbeaten! We especially look forward to birthday celebrations, graduations and kids going off to college as Tak makes certain that we are always well fed and happy. We will be at Yosaku tomorrow night for another family celebration and we cant wait for another memorable dining experience!
