Me and my family discovered this place while here duck hunting. We were looking for a good old fashioned burger and fries, not fast food. Great old fashioned food for a great price. Milkshakes are delicious. We went for dinner one evening and then came back for breakfast the next morning. We had the same waitress from the night before. She was fast, friendly, and checked on us often. Her feet must have been on fire she was working so fast. No wonder she was in good shape with all the running around she did. She wore a black Bebe baseball cap both days. Her breakfast shift coworker however was not pulling her own weight. She was a heavier set lady with brown hair maybe in her 50s. She stayed behind counter talking mostly. We saw her take food out maybe once and refill one coffee. We felt bad for our waitress so made sure we tipped her well and told her what a great job she was doing.

We live in town and finally tried what so many have raved about the 6th Street diner. The food was fantastic and plenty of it. We ordered the fish & chips and we were pleasantly surprized when the waitress brought the plates. Each plate had 2 huge fresh fish filets, beer battered & deep fried perfectly with plenty of steak cut french fries. We couldnt eat it all and had to get a doggie bag for the rest. The service was great and all of the staff were friendly. They have a big flat screen TV and we were even able to get an update on the world cup soccer games from Rosa. We will definately be back to try their breakfasts, lunchs and dinners! Highly recommend it if you like a casual diner with friendly staff and huge amounts of food.

Im a full time college student at merced college in los banos & live 30 min away. I am in los banos all day & fast food all the time isnt the best & it tastes fake half the time. Today I walked into 6th st diner for the first time after reading the reviews & I was welcomed with a smile. The guy who took my order was very friendly and even cracked a few jokes and recommended their daily soup. Their chicken pot pie soup is TO DIE for. I got a pretty decent sized cup for only 3 dollars that definitely filled me up. Will be going back tomorrow to try their breakfast

Sixth Street Diner owners Dave and Rosa know how to run a restaurant. Whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner you wont be disappointed. They have something on their menu for everyones taste buds. And its a lot of food. And its tasty. Not to mention the big screen television and Manuel who sits at the lunch counter and greets you with a smile! Check out the local newspaper -- Los Banos Enterprise -- three doors down and grab a copy and enjoy the best burger in town while reading about the news in town. It dont get much better than that!

My wife and I stopped in Los Banos on our way to northern CA. Found the Sixth Street Diner in a store front on the main street. We were warmly greeted by the owners Rosa and Dave, who are a very hard working couple as they are open seven days a week. Our rib eye steaks were delicious and cooked to perfection as well as a very generous portion of fresh steamed vegetables. This is a great local place that serves great food in a very friendly atmosphere. We went back the following morning for a very hearty breakfast.

If the customer service was a tad better and it was slightly bigger it would have 5 stars. Otherwise its a hidden gem! The food is great, especially breakfast. Burgers are a good size. The pulled pork isnt the best (not made there, just reheated). Its an old-school place, so keep that in mind when visiting for the first time. Overall good spot

OMG. This is the best place. Great Mom & Pop kinda of place. Food is GREAT. Low prices for what you get. Everytime I go to Los Banos I will be eating here with my family. Employees are wonderful. Bit of advice. Go Hungry. You wont leave that way. Bet you cant eat it all in one sitting. Enjoy. We did. Best of Luck to you all.

This is one of my favorite places in Los Banos, and definitely some of the best American food in the town, if not THE best American food in Los Banos. The ambience isnt great, but the food and the service make up for it. My favorite is the meatloaf sandwich!

Wonderful food and great service. I have yet to finish any of the meals in one sitting, the portions are so large and prices so low I cant see how they make money. You have to try this place, it may replace your normal lunch or breakfast place.

Warm, friendly, down-home atmosphere and food at great prices. Gretchen and her colleague bustled busily yet took time to answer questions, accommodate special requests. Go hungry and/or get ready to bring home a doggie bag!

There is a waitress who is owners daughter and she doesnt know a single word about respect and good manners. Capable of insult you even outside the diner. What a shame. I use to go there. Never more while shes there.

I loved the homey farm town feel to this place, and the food and service were right there to back it up. Be sure to try their comically large pancakes!
