Wonderful experience. I absolutely love Chinese food, and I wanted to try out this place. I was a little nervous after reading such negative reviews, but I decided to give it a chance. My mother and I went to the dinner buffet and the gentleman who waited on us was extremely friendly and helpful. He refilled our teas (excellent Chinese tea) whenever they were less than half full, was attentive and really wanted to know how we enjoyed the food and our experience. The buffet itself was excellent. My mother and I have been to numerous Chinese restaurants all over the state, and the food was very impressive. There was a good variety of dishes both classic and unique, the mushrooms in oyster sauce, Governors chicken, and seafood dishes were particularly delicious, and their crab rangoons were, hands down, the best I have ever had. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean, the prices reasonable, and anytime the owner was busy with another table, his other waitstaff stepped in to take our plates so we were never kept waiting. Overall, it was a greatly pleasant experience. I am shocked by some of the negative reviews, so if you wish for some good Chinese, I suggest you try this place out for yourself. The experience depends on the attitude of the customer; if you are looking to negatively nit-pick and expect an excellent CHINESE restaurant to have an All-American staff (with no cultural differences and perfect English) then you are bound to be disappointed. If you want great Chinese food, Gourmet China is definitely the place to go. I will surely be coming here often. :)

If I could remove the one star that is present I would. So my buddys visiting me at college and we have this tradition where we always see what different food places we can find that might peak our interest. Today was a subtle little chinese restraunt with two traditional lanterns hanging from an overhang outside of it. We went in thinking this was just like any other chinese lunch buffet: cheap, tasty, many options, maybe even good service.. unfortunately, that was not the case. I am writing this review twenty minutes post the impact of that "food" hitting my taste buds and twenty minutes prior post-mordem. I will begin with the food. There were little to no options and what was available there was little of. Not because there were many people eating there (there was one other man whom looked like he was in a state between consciousness and the after life) but because there was no kitchen staff that seemed willing to make fresh, appetizing food. Next was the price. It cost my friend and I $27 that could have been spent on something entirely better like the Tums I am now requiring. Upon leaving the restraunt, my friend puked as we walked out. The only brightside to that was a woman entering the restraunt decided maybe it wasnt the best idea to eat here and she saved herself. If only my friend and I were that lucky. So please, I recommend not going here, for your sake. Anything, i repeat, anything, is better than this.

DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS RESTAURANT! I placed my order at 630ish through eat24. About 45 mins later I contacted them to see how long it would be, the response was that the driver had just left. About 30 mins later, I received a call from the owner asking whether I lived in an apartment or house because my food was outside. IMMEDIATELY after I hung up from him I got a call from the DRIVER who said he was in a car accident and that it would be 15 mins because he would WALK IT TO ME! I contacted the owner 30 mins later and asked how long. He then stated the would just bring the food to me, a new order. 30 mins later, I get my food. To my surprise the chicken looked HORRIBLE and smelled even worse! I waited 3 hours for the horrible food and they werent willing to refund my money back!! NEVER EVER WILL I ORDER FROM THIS PLACE AGAIN! ALMOST 930 and I still havent eaten dinner because the barely edible rice I gave to my children! Ugh!

I am very disappointed! I JUST order Fried chicken, brown rice. (Two little sauces) In Notes i was very SPECIFIC when i asked for enough sauce. As i could only dip my cold microwave fried chicken about Hmm.. 4 times before it hit the bottom of the container. When i tell you it just taste like they heated it up in the microwave, disgusting at its finest! They gave me free crab Rangoon, Horrible as well, thanks though, I guess. This food order was placed at opening of business. So if food is tasting like this exactly at opening. I can imagine how it taste late afternoon/evening. Ill never refer this place! Shame Shame Shame. I gave this one star ONLY because i had to select something in order to post. But I give them a 0!

Perhaps I am an idiot. I have tried on multiple occasions over a number of years to give China Gourmet a shot and have been sorely disappointed each and every time. The food is bad to mediocre and the service is just as poor. Sadly, this is the only restaurant available to me that offers scallion pancakes, but the one time they actually DID have them in stock, they were not good. Dont even get me started on their catering and delivery "services". this place is a nightmare. It made my co workers physically ill twice in a 7 year period, but leave it to me to try try again, only to be disappointed yet again-at least I wasnt poisoned. Awful customer service, awful everything.

Food is very expensive and very average.. I have ordered from them out of desperation probably 30 times in the past year and delivery service is terrible. I ordered at 2:45 today and received my order 2 hours later. The food is not "gourmet", it is your run of the mill chinese food. Chicken is tough and of low quality, rangoon is purely sweetened cream cheese, and orders are sloppily put together. The only thing that keeps me coming back is convenience....If you are desperate for chinese and youre downtown...go for it...if youre looking for the best chinese food in Milwaukee, head to Yen Ching or Hong Anh Palace in Mequon...

Ordered online ... after over an hour got a call from the delivery driver who was evidently lost and in the wrong building (less than two blocks away from the restaurant). Kept arguing with me that there was not a fifth floor. Well there is in the building you are supposed to be delivering food in...duh. By the time the food got here it was cold and disgusting. Did not apologize; as a matter of fact, dropped the food off with our receptionist and took off. Why not, he didnt care and it was already paid for. Never again!

This place is terrible, the food is not edible. I called China Gourmet immediately after my food arrived at my place to tell them to come back and pick up the food and give me my money back, he repeatedly said he has never had a complaint about the food and argued and yelled at me "we make food, we bring food, you pay fo food, if you dont like food you still pay". If you cant make your food better at least improve your customer service. Gas station food would have been more appealing, this place really deserves zero stars.
