We entered the Deforest family Resturant for a culinary adventure-we were not disappointed. The service was friendly and fast (umm maybe too fast???.....), even the waitress said she was surprised at how fast they cook the food! To quote her "I dont know how they do it!" This food left us confused. First the salad was a chunky style, the 2x3" cube of ünchopped salad needed a steak knife if you even wanted to eat it. Not to mention the pale tomato half sitting in the salad they looked like it needed another week or two of ripening! The Saturday "special" of BBQ chicken was definitely special. The nearly bottle and a half of BBQ sauce covering the scrawny pieces of chicken surely kept it moist but I wanted chicken not a bottle of BBQ..... The 21 "shrimp" basket may have had some shrimp in it but thats questionable! They resembled cheetos in their crusty appearance & were not enough to even cover the bottom of the basket....pass on this! The mashed potatoes seemed promising but all I can say is that they had a lot of gravy but no taste. They couldnt even be saved with salt, pepper, and extra smashing....The mixed vegetables.... hmmm....These came as a surprise! I think the local vacationing school lunch ladies needed a venue to get rid of these & the family Resturant felt bad and said ok...but these were the highlight of the meals. We typically favor the down home goodness of a family Resturant but this is one we will NOT be repeating. The variety of deficiencies made it worth while as a story we will share with others for a long time.

We ate here for the first time today. What an ugly experience it was. When we first walked in it took 20 minutes before anyone came over to take our order. As if that was not bad enough, it also took another 25 minutes for us to get our food. The ribs I ordered were burnt to a crisp and hard as leather. I requested fresher ribs or to have them taken off of my bill and the manager refused. (Very nasty sarcastic man) The little packets of sour cream for our potatoes were outdated and had a nasty odor. After we received our food, no one came over to refill our drinks or ask if we wanted a desert. I got the impression that they had only 2 waitresses doing the work of 5. They also have a cook who needs to be replaced. As for the manager.. he needs to be replaced as well. We stopped here because it was close to the I-90 exit. I would rather go hungry than to ever eat here again.

I was in DeForest for business. The DeForest Family Restauant was near our hotel and came recommended by the hotel staff. The food was excellent! The Specials each day were outstanding and there was plenty of food on the plate. The wait staff was friendly, prompt and attentive. The owner came and checked on everyone to be sure they were happy. True to its name there were lots of families every night giving it a homey local atmosphere. On Thursday night we went into Madison to eat at a local Irish pub, afterwards the wife and I wished we had just gone back to eat at the Deforest Family Restaurant. When I am back in Deforest next August I am staying at the same hotel and eating at the restaurant again.

I had a real bad experience at this place. Not sure if its always this bad or not. We were seated the waitress took about 10 ten minutes to come take our order. Once we finally ordered our food took about 20 minutes to get our food. Food was okay at best but our waitress pretty much threw it at us and didnt come back until they gave us our check. Service was just terrible. It was on a slow sunday night too. I will never go back to that place again.

Great prices well worth the best service in town the owner jack is a AMAZING guy always greets us when we walk in and makes us feel a home the food is amazing and never burnt I just had the ribs and salad very meaty and salad was crisp and vegetables where fresh Ill always come back

Horrible experience. Too pricey. Food was poorly made and avacado was not ripe on burger and made it inedible. Watress hardly cared, she forgot soup and seemed like she didnt care. Hashbrowns barley cooked and mushy. Meat was really fatty and poor quality...... Never again!!!!!

Great home cooked food, very nice service and reasonable prices. A great place to go. Went yesterday evening on the way back to Chicago and it was really great. They have a huge menu and the food was really great. I took the beef liver which was fantastic.

Something has changed. This used to be a great place to stop on our way to many places throughout the state. Now either the cook has changed or the focus has. The food has become standard off the interstate fare. To bad, used to be a favorite.

It wasnt impressive. My mozzarella sticks were two different brands, my sisters DeForest sandwich was lackluster. The hash browns were overcooked and the service seemed stressed out. Except for the nice man who bussed the tables.

Ive had the pleasure of eating breakfast and lunch at DeForest Family Restaurant over the course of the past month. Great prices, a lot of great food for those prices, and pretty good service. I just wish I lived closer.

The food was not good. It all tasted off, like it was old, or not held at appropriate temps. Im surprised nobody in my party for sick. The menu was so big it was unwieldy which explains the bad food.
