The few times I went to Boccato I got coffee; it was a bit more expensive than other places because they only do pour-overs and they understandably charge more for a pour-over. I usually got a Cortado, which was pretty good. I sampled the Gelato once and was planning to return with my wife. However, one of the last times I visited I overheard the owner yelling at an employee right in the front of the store, which seemed inappropriate to me. Regardless of the reason, it just does not seem like good practice or professional. I decided to give it another chance the following week. I took my laptop because I had something to work on. After sitting there working the owner told me he had to close down for about an hour, which was problematic for me since I had not finished my drink nor what I was working on. I expressed to him my frustration, but was on my way out. I then expressed my concern about the encounter with the employee the other day; he didnt like it and began to argue with me. He was very disrespectful through all of this and I told him I may not return as a result of these encounters. That was over a year ago and I have not returned. People seem to really like this place; I walk by it all the time. But there are other places I like and the owners of those places are nicer and provide better service. Thats extremely important to me.

The coffee and ice cream are great. Nice place overall. Butttt, the owner (or manager, whoever is bossing people) is a total j.e.r.k!!! I waited weeks before writing this review to make sure that the experience is consistent. He keeps treating his employees in such an abusive manner that ruined the experience on several occasions for us visiting for a quick cup of coffee or gelato. We were appalled hearing his choice of words and abusive managerial approach. There were kids with their parents ordering and witnessing how he was mistreating his employees, bashing them and pummeling them in front of others, at the same exact moment he was taking our order. He had his ear to us and his offensive mouth to his employee. Customers were looking at each others with dismay. Its so unfortunate but we will never return since this exact experience is certainly not a one-off!

Excellent coffee shop and working space. Lots of tables of different sizes as well as comfy chairs and couches. Plenty of outlets including in the floor. Free wi-fi with password. Appealing casual atmosphere. Soft rock (a bit loud) on the sound system. Reasonable selection of teas. Hot chocolate is too sweet, and chai latte is from Tazo mix. Lots of pastries and some good savory offerings (empanadas, sandwiches). Yummy looking gelato that I didnt have a chance to try. Friendly staff. I was there on a Wednesday night and it closed 20 minutes earlier than the listed time (1010pm instead of 1030pm).

Today we went to the place with my two friends and kids. I dont recommend this place who has kids. Our kids just started moving around watching stuff the manager came to us and said they are going to close soon and we get out of the place even outside when we wer talking he came and with rude voice asked us not to stay there that we are blocking the walkways even there are was cafes tables and a lot of space. I felt very wired about. Ive never come back again. By the way the gelato was not real gelato its like handmade by learner. Any person who tried real gelato knows that is an awful lie.

When I ordered a coffee I asked to have it in a mug (not a paper cup). When the staff told me they wouldnt do it because it was 8:45 and they close at 10pm and didnt want to wash an extra dish, I had the order cancelled (within seconds of ordering). No big deal. Well, the assistant manager on duty had rushed to make my drink the second I said it becuase she was hovering around the register, so when I cancelled I could CLEARLY hear her make rude comments about me as I walked away. Come on. If your going to talk badly dont do it IN EARSHOT OF CUSTOMERS! Go to the back and complain.

This adorable little gelato shop is scooping up decadent flavors by the cone or piled on brownies, cookies or even in espresso. The interior is comfy albeit a little strange with the odd room divider, but with Julias Empanadas now available in-house and free wifi, you wont mind a bit. The staff is very friendly and while Im not a coffee drinker, I was fascinated by all of the creations they were whipping and dripping for other customers. I ordered a scoop of the guava and one of the chirimoya which were perfectly paired for tartness and creamy sweetness on a hot summers day.

Great gelato and ambiance, but the manager was very rude to his employee and customers. We stood in line and watched him scold the two sets of customers in front of us who were politely trying to buy food. The way he treated his employee was embarrassing. By the time we were at the counter he announced to his employee to get everyone out of the shop and he was closing early. We let the shop and so did the 6 people in line behind us. We used to love going to the gelato shop, but they will be out of business, if they keep treating people bad.

The taste of the gelato were not really nice - maybe we had just a bad choice? (We ordered mint chocolate, "Coconut" but actually it taste like cinnamon ice cream with pieces of coconut, dulce de leche & amaretto - these last two were better but still not the delicious taste usually hand mande ice cream has). The people who served were really friendly but the place was not amazingly pleasant - a bit too old for my style, but still a place to save you from the rain if you are cought in the area for a few minutes.

Until proven otherwise, you can bet this homemade gelato has palm oil in it, which is responsible for orangutans being Critically Endangered :( I asked the baristas about it and they said they didnt have a clue, but that Christian Velasco would know. I would encourage you to ask and I would encourage you to make good choices that help orangutans and not contribute to their extinction. Also please choose the disposal-free option... when Bocatto no longer sells products with palm oil, I will update my review.

I decided to try out this place after seeing good reviews. I spotted many flavors of gelato - and while I was getting ready to say what I wanted, the guy serving the gelato took a spoon and put some ice cream in his mouth before serving me. I thought at first he was going to put my ice cream using his spoon, but thankfully, he didnt. The gelato was great, but the service was so-so. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable. I dont know - this place rubs me the wrong way but I still love their gelato.

Stick to the desserts. Anything else is an overpriced waste. The creme brulee Cheesecake was yummy, and the gelato was reasonably good. The Paninis were nothing but lunch meat and a slice of cheese on doughy bread. The "tomato basil bisque" tasted like reconstituted Campbells with some dried herbs sprinkled on top. Furthermore, the staff was rude and the tables were filthy. Finally, when paying by credit card, you will be forced to leave a minimum 15% tip, despite the abysmally slow service.
