Im new to the area and wanted to watch a college basketball game at a bar on a Tuesday night in downtown. The game started at 10pm - and its quite clear this is prime closing time for nightlife in San Antonio. I unknowingly parked myself at a restaurant bar at the Pearl that was technically closed for the night. The manager pointed me in the direction of the Blue Box and told me that they had TVs to watch the game. I walked into Blue Box and no TVs anywhere! I walked outside the bar to make sure I was even in the right place and asked the door man if they had any TVs available. He told me that they usually lower them down for the Spurs games but needed to see if they would do it for anything else. The bartender he asked 5 feet away from me and without even acknowledging me as a potential client gave a resounding "NO. Spurs games only." If I had more of a choice of where to enjoy myself downtown I would never go back to this place again. Im clearly at the mercy of this city to open a bar downtown with a TV to watch some college basketball in a social setting on a Tuesday night, kindly negating the only other option of going home and watching it alone.

They have the most arrogant bartender that I think I have ever ordered a drink from in my travels around the world. He thinks of himself as a "mixologist". Really? You owned two bars in Brooklyn and your working behind the bar trying to make me think that you studied at an Ivy League school to pour whisky out of bottle into a glass of ice then add an orange peel. You have to be kidding me. Ive paid more for drinks and I have also been thrown out of better places. The arrogance of this swarmy "wannabe" was enough to let me know that there are hundreds of other places that I would rather be to spend my money. There is a generation of bartenders out there that think they are saving the world by mixing drinks with strawberries and cucumbers and charging you $15. Really now. I think I will go down the road to a place where the "mixologist" dont think their ca-ca doesnt stink and they can pour a Chivas and soda without making you think they have performed some minor miracle and charging you and arm and a leg.

I went to this place a number of times before I made it my last. That was due to the douchebag clown bartenders that were there. I never had any problems with the service in the past, but I went on a Saturday night and there were three clowns on the first floor that I never hope to encounter again. The main clown was some bozo meathead who misplaced my credit card and then blamed me for losing it. The imbecile never handed it back to me. Another one of the stooges was not very helpful either, was very sarcastic and left me standing like a fool waiting to get my card. back. Finally, one of the three Stooges (the other bartender wasnt helpful either) found my card and threw it on the table. Of course I didnt leave a tip. Ive never been back. The drinks were okay. Id rather spend my $20 on a 12 pack of Shiner instead of letting these pendejos serve me again. The doorman that night was the only nice person there. Blue Box, dont hire clowns.

Olaf and Jake, the mixologists, have perfected the perfect night out experience. Not only were my drinks custom made...it was magical watching them at their craft. They dont just make you a drink, they create the perfect drink...just for your tastes. Tasting spoons, aroma sniffing, and the artistic layering of alcohol, all made for an experience that was new and exciting. Plus, Im kinda crushing on Olaf...though Jake is equally handsome and smart! What fun. Why would you go anywhere else? Too bad I live in Bozeman, Montana, or I would be there now. But it is first on my list when I return to San Antonio. Maybe the owners would consider opening Blue Box II in Bozeman. We Bozones would love it!

I enjoyed my brief beer here once but when I finally returned for cocktails with friends I wasnt so impressed. Once the bar gets even slightly busy, service levels drop fast. The $9 mojito was really bad - very sour with no flavor at all. The servers have an attitude which I could handle if they were great at their job. The outdoor seating area is pleasant when the weather allows. I just wish the owners would put a sign outside - they make a point of there being no sign but thats quite frankly pretty dumb.

The drinks were so so but the staff was awful! One of the drinks was horrible, and when we told the bartender that it wasnt good, all we got was attitude instead of an apology and a drink to replace the one that wasnt made well. Dont order the mango crush, it tastes like rubber. And dont expect friendly service. The bartenders dont care about the patrons, just moving on to the next order that theyll screw up. Never coming back here.

Nice place to have a drink while waiting for a reservation at one of the close restaurants. This whole area was the old pearl brewing plant so its all close together, historic and beautiful. Drinks were a little pricey, but its an upscale bar. Atmosphere was nice, not crowded, plenty of seating. Boots, bar and tables. Starts to get a little busier later in the evening around 830 or so. Very nice place.

This spot can be amazing or annoying depending on when you go. Ive been a few times where the bartenders are awesome and they introduce me to new drinks that I never heard about before. However, Ive been once or twice and felt like the bartender was annoyed with me no matter what I ordered. The good times are good enough that Ill probably be back again.

Always going to be a vibrant atmosphere, even during the week when the bar can be dead. On the weekend, this place can get pretty rowdy, definitely the spot to grab a cocktail at the Pearl. Good drinks, good vibes, good times. (And my kind of music). Oh, they also have a projector to play important games on, but they cant use to for just anything.

Horrible management! Very expensive drinks. They also served food right outside the patio. The cook was serving fried chicken, maccoroni, and cheese. He was literally sweating on the chicken as it was being cooked, and as he was serving it. When we brought this to his attention, he got upset and defiant. Absolutely disgusting.

Echoing what others have said regarding service. Was charged $25.82 for two beers... during happy hour. Gave me the wrong tab and argued with me when I let them know they screwed up. Will never, ever be going back. I advise you dont either.

Have had some amazingly well crafted drinks from the upstairs bar area. Excellent mixologists that will whip up a nice cocktail based on your taste preferences. I have taken my lady here on multiple occasions for date nights.

I decided to quit going when a very very bad bartender had me removed for no real reason. I had been there for 5 minutes trying to get the first of the night. Try la Gloria bar instead, right next to it
