Fantastic brew house. Weirdly, I seem to come here mostly to show out-of-towners who want to drink "somewhere cool and Austin-y" (yes, Im one of those people who thinks we should be showing off our city and not pretending we can hold back the tides), but its actually a great little neighborhood joint that rewards consistent patrons as well. Theyve got a great tap list, with both decent sipping beers as well as more exotic beers for people looking for rarer stuff. I really appreciate that their chalkboards with the taplist show both the ABV and the size of the beer alongside the price - Ive been to places that dont, and its annoying to order something stronger like a Belgian that sounds cool only to be presented with a tiny 8oz or 10oz pour instead of a full-size pint. Luckily that doesnt happen here. Beer prices are pretty standard for craft beer, but some days like Tuesdays and Thursdays have much cheaper prices, possibly to compete with the Flying Saucer over on Lamar. The staff tend to be cool and knowledgeable. Their interior is a fairly decent size with an ample assortment of variously-sized tables, but the real action is outside where theres plenty of long tables for groups. Even better, outside is closer to their onsite food trailer, which as of winter 2013 is East Side King! I cant get enough of that place, but they also offer free bratwurst on weekend afternoons, which is an awesome perk. The only downside is that parking in the neighborhood sucks if youre not lucky enough to get one of the few front spots, but just tough it out, since this place is worth it.

Anyone rating this place less than five stars doesnt deserve to live in Austin. The only thing bad about this place is that it is so badass sometimes the lines get long. First of all, the tap list is amazing. Its like a "whos who" of awesome beer. The staff is very knowledgeable of the beer they serve, and they will help you find something you like, and might even give you a small sample if they are not too busy. Even if they didnt brew their own, its a place to go for the beer fan. But, they do brew their own beer, which I think often gets overlooked. Their house beer is sometimes hit or miss, but hits more than often. They need to keep Vanilla porter, and bombay IPA on ALL the time. They have improved their outdoor space, adding more tables, and benches, making it THE place to be to come after work, and drink the memory of your crappy job off into the sunset. Many times it looks busy on the outside because everyone is sitting outside, and the inside is empty. However, on a cold winter day, nothing beats coming through those double double-doors, getting a pint and sitting down on a hard wood table. Im pretty sure the wood makes it warmer. If you get hungry, get their nachos. Its something like 8 bucks, and it can seriously feed 3 or 4 people. Im pretty sure they just open up a bag of chips, can of black beans, can of olives, and a bag of cheese, and throw it on foil, but it is awesome.

The Draught House is not only one of my favorite places in Austin, but in my eyes, is a place that embodies what makes Austin a great place to live. Yes, the city is changing and condos are going up everywhere, but when you step into the Draught House, you are stepping back into old Austin, the relaxed, laid back Austin of yesteryear. The sheer diversity of the people there is always interesting to me. UT kids and old regulars, cyclists and bikers - everyone is welcome. The beer selection is fantastic. They are usually among the first to acquire any new releases. The variety of local Texas beers is always quite good, which is nice because I generally go there on Sundays when Texas pints are only $2.75. Their cask selections (they have three, plus one dedicated Fullers cask engine) are generally outstanding. Their house brews, too, are usually quite good. The brewer, Josh, obviously likes to experiment, so it is always interesting to see what he comes up with. Not all are fantastic, mind you, but the Bombay IPA and Big Tex come to mind as true classics. While it can get quite crowded at peak hours, and the line can extend far into the parking lot, if you go in the afternoon, it is always quite pleasant. There are few places I would rather spend a balmy summer afternoon in Austin than sitting at the Draught House, sipping a cold pint of craft beer.

Worst pub experience in all of Texas. Rude staff. Im a native Texan and a proud Austinite. My friends and I went here last night following a movie to grab a drink. The second we walked through the door the bartenders, a brunette man and a blonde woman, began SCREAMING from ACROSS THE ROOM at us to show our IDs. We were a little taken aback because 1.) We are of legal Texas drinking age, members of our party were 22-28, to give you an idea and 2.) I have never in my life encountered such rudeness and hostility in Texas in a pub of all places! Needless to say, after BOTH of the bartenders began to yell at us while we were quietly talking and deciding what to order (their prices of $5 for a glass of draft were a little high by Texas standards) we decided to walk out. Instead, we went to Crown & Anchor and had an amazing experience there as usual! After seeing so many positive reviews, Im really shocked no one else had our experience. We honestly encountered the rudest, most impatient bartenders at the Draught House last night. And I have no idea why they were so impatient.... we were the only ones in there. My advice, dont go here unless you want to submit to being yelled by impatient staff with terrible manners. There are so many great pubs/bars in Austin and the Draughthouse is just not worth it.

Id give it 10 stara if I could. Been going here since the day I turned 18 and got my fake ID. they have the largest selection of draft beer in Austin. Staff couldnt be more friendly and knowledgeable. One of my favorite things to do is ask on of the bartenders what they recommend ie. "whats a nice pale ale you guys got in", hell tell you a good one, describe the flavor and pour you a little taste to see if its up your alley which it almost always is. The atmosphere is great, tucked away in a little neighborhood, it feels like its "your" pub, where everybody k ows your name, no pun intended. Has a small indoor area, very cozy with wooden tables and darts in the corner. And then a nice patio with big space heaters for the winter and buddies tailgating, drinking their beers on the back of their truck or in their car as long as its in the parking lot. Nice place to take a date for a nightcap, grab a sinfully good beer, head to the car, and drink that last beer while you listen to "lets please have sex after this" music. I love Draughthouse Pub! Best pub in Austin. Oh yeah, did I mention once a week they have free bratwurst and another day of the week free pizza? Well they do
