Let me start by saying that I like City Cafe. Not necessarily because of the food--which I will address shortly--but because of its working-class atmosphere, its honest character, and most importantly its historical significance. Its a great place to go drink coffee and read the paper. As for the food, I must admit Ive only had breakfast items: omelets, breakfast plates, and biscuit sandwiches. The common component amongst those items being eggs, which is the main topic of this exposé. Oftentimes, when eating an omelet or breakfast plate, I am reminded of comments by the late, great Jesco White: "I took the butcher knife and put it up to her neck. I said if you wanna live to see tomorrow, you better start fryin them eggs a lil bit better than what youre fryin em. Im tired of eatin sloppy, slimy eggs." Now, on the surface this seems to be a little brutal, but for me, its less about the butcher knife and more about the eggs. On multiple occasions I have received an omelet that wasnt quite done. I would cut into it and would find small globules of translucent egg here and there. The same occurs when I ask for over-medium on my breakfast plate. The bacon egg and cheese biscuits have always been delicious though. Again, despite that, I will continue to dine at City Cafe, but if one desires consistent, properly cooked eggs and can stand cigarette smoke, I suggest Wall Street. Cheers!

I wanted to like this. Admittedly the people around us were very loud and hindered our experience (not the restaurants fault). We sat for almost 15 minutes before we got drinks or menus. She came by a few times but kept forgetting to bring the menus with her. Then we tried to order and she forgot her pad so that was delayed as well. Overall, the food was pretty good. The place just seemed a little dirty and the waitress had something resembling pink eye. She was very nice, but I might have put her in the back until it cleared up.

Lustful, empty, and fleeting... their double cheeseburgers are literally two cheeseburgers, and their fries are 2 dollars. The staff is their the coffee mugs are new often the sound of society creeps into my cold ears. The sound of the dish boy in the back left me with hope and desire to be better in society. The fans symbolic of my digestion system after eating their grease filled burgers, but overall pretty good.

Really needs some updates, but a nice old-fashioned mom and pop dinner. Prices are low, service is slow, and food quaity is not the greatest. You get the sence of their not there for the money anymore. Hence the slow and sometimes dismisive service. I stop every now and again, I enjoy supporting local businesses, but not going to more than a few times a year.

I am sitting the place now for 10 minutes. Got a drink. The place not busy. I have not ordered yet. And the one who is waitressing has not came over to place my order. I had a great experience for lunch. But if you want good service in the morning. It will not happen. When she finnaly gets here i am going to pay for my drink and walk out

Historic diner on the square. City Cafe is timeless in that people will always need a place to go get food that tastes like your momma made it for a reasonable price. Bottomless coffee from actual coffee cups is a rarity that makes this our favorite place for a good meal.

The City Cafe has new owners and a new menu. Recent reviews of the restraunt by the Daily News Journal and local food critics have been fantastic. Come and visit the City Cafe and say hi to the new owners Tami and Teresa.

One of my local favorites. I almost always see someone I know. I typically go for breakfast, which is always good. I cant speak for the other menu items, but I sure it wont let you down.

How do you mess up a grilled cheese sandwich? Too greasy, burnt and the cheese was of low quality. I used to love this place, but never again.

Very relaxed with excellent food. Casual pace. Old world charm. Not at all like those sterile chains or fast food places. Highly recommend.
