I am a long time customer of this place and LOVE the products and the people...UNTIL TODAY. I took my daughters in there to pick out some chocolate and I grabbed a $20 lb of beef jerky. While paying for the Jerky and chocolates, my oldest daughter decided she wanted to switch items, but instead of changing the transaction, I just told her to grab what she wanted and I would get it. The older lady at the register (whom I believe is one of the owners) proceeds to yell at my daughter not to touch things. Remember, I gave her permission to grab something to buy and they had all been well behaved in the store to that point. I said "she wants to buy it", and she told me she couldnt because that particular chocolate had alcohol in it. I would have completely understood that, but she snapped at my kid. I said "you could have probably told us that in a more polite way", and she then tells me kids shouldnt touch things in the store. Am I crazy here? I would have made a real scene, but there was a long line behind me and frankly I was seeing red and needed to calm down.

Quality is fantastic for all goods. The deli help are knowledgeable, maybe slightly world weary in their treatment of newer patrons, as if others should have the knowledge they have of their products and the slightly muddled and confusing structure of how you order at the cramped deli counter. This tendency of mild condescension seems to be lifting recently maybe some new blood or company edict to enhance customer experience. The lunch counter could use some upgrade. It has always seems on the verge of meltdown even if it is not really busy. Maybe spend a few bucks and realign the kitchen and make a smaller menu with standbys complimented by a few daily specials featuring all the great choices available. As I think about my experience at the deli it occurs to me that maybe the humorless atmosphere may be the result of poorly compensated workers which would make me sad.

My friend in portland loves this place. From what I understand theyre famous for their bologne and fresh sausages. They also have a great selection of european chocolates and candies. The prices are bit high, but I can understand them. You pay for quality. I ordered a fresh brat on bread which was about 5 bucks. I did sample the bologne. The brat was pretty high quality and I actually really enjoyed the flavour. It was so flavourful I did not feel a need for any addition sauce such as ketchup or mustard. Service was pretty wonderful. The guy was friendly and patient. It took about 4 mins for my order to ready. I didnt notice any overt racism as other people of asian descent have mentioned in previous reviews. Maybe I wasnt looking carefully. People were friendly and prompt. I experienced no real issues. However I was served by a nice tall gentleman instead of a woman.

dont be in a hurry if youre going to the little lunch counter in the back of this place. With all the help running around behind the counters at 2:30 in the afternoon, youd think service would be much better than it is. Lunch counter customer service was abysmal on the day I visited. With one person ahead of me, it still took almost 30 minutes to order and have made a simple cold meat sandwich - on what seemed like day old sliced sourdough bread. I wouldnt recommend the corned beef - it had an odd pink/orange tint to it. Didnt taste bad, but then it didnt taste very good, either. I doubt that I would try the lunch counter again, but the rest of the store is okay - besides the bulk authentic German meat & cheese cases, there are a few aisles of German imported foodstuffs, and beer and wine.

I stopped in to get some brats for the grill. The customer in front of me ordered 8 links of the chili and cheese sausage, so I thought what the hey, Ill order a couple of those to go with my brats. YUUUMMM. Chili and cheese sausages are the way to go! Slightly spicy, deliciously smokey sausage and pockets of cheese make this a juicy and delicious sausage. This was the first one gobbled up by my friends and made me wish I had a complete order of chili and cheese sausages. If youre a fan of mustard, you HAVE to get a side of their secret mustard sauce. The cashier told me that several supermarket chains have asked to have them make it for them, but you can only find it at Edelweiss. GET IT NOW!

Ive been going here for over 7 years. During the past year on two separate occasions, months apart, Ive purchased the worst liver sausage ever. Both times the sausage was made with old or spoiled liver. To mask the taste of spoiled liver the sausage was drenched in vinegar making it inedible. A third time the liver sausage was over salted by a factor of 10 making it inedible. I couldnt even tell if the liver was good or bad that time. Ive since just stopped buying anything from Edelweiss. Only one tall and slender guy working behind the counter there is polite and the only one who uses gloves when handling food.

My dad asked me to swing by and grab some German potato sausage. This was right before Christmas and it was customers shoulder to shoulder. At first I was concerned about getting to the deli counter to get my order in. They had a good system and a stocky helped me figure out what to do. Another friendly customer tipped me off that I could ask for samples. I tried a blood sausage which was delicious but I didn’t end up buying it. This small shop lived up to its reputation in more ways than one. Overall a great experience and will shop here again.

The service at this place is terrible. Went there yesterday morning and was treated rudely by numerous individuals, most notably the middle aged man who acted as if giving us the meats we selected was some kind of big chore. Very unhelpful when asked for suggestions. It is really a shame because they have some great stuff, but I will not be going back due to how rude the men who work there are. We spent 70 dollars there only to be treated like crap. I would give the food a 4 or 5 but the service and over all experience was a 1.

Ive been coming here for a very long time. Im Norwegian and this is the closet to what Ive grown up with. They used to have many Norwegian products but have slacked off a lot. The weisswurst and wieners and all of their other meats are top notch. They have wonderful rolls and sliced German breads. Their potato salad has taken a dive whoever is making it is not cooking the potatoes long enough. Their pastries are excellent many coming directly from Germany.
