I was in the mood for authentic Mexican food, and not a giant foil-wrapped burrito. But this was a HUGE disappointment. First of all, the restaurant isnt where online address listing says it is. Apparently its in the bar across the street - would have been nice to know that before I drove up and down for ten minutes wondering where the heck it was. Good luck getting ahold of someone if you call. I later found out that this was because the bartender/"chef" was too busy playing hide and seek with her boyfriend to answer the phone. I had to wait twice as long for the food as I was told, probably because its hard to defrost the frozen food when youre playing tickle games on the job. The food....ah, the food. Im going to guess that this might have been made weeks ago and frozen. At the least, it was refrigerated after being baked. The enchiladas were still cold inside - hard to do with authentic food. The rice tasted like day-old Chinese takeout warmed up in the microwave - all hard and crunchy. The beans tasted like they came from a can. And the enchiladas were covered in sauce and cheese spread from a jar. I basically paid $12 for a Mexican TV dinner and a few chips in a ziplock bag.

Some of the ratings here are harsh and totally unfair to this small, family restaurant. Its NOT CHI CHIs! Its a family establishment. I am not aware of any changes in ownership, but over the years we have had many fine meals here. I LOVE the fresh crunchy celery in the salsa, which is HOMEMADE. Everyone makes salsa differently if it is HOMEMADE and not from a JAR. I guess some people want the bland mushy salsa they are familiar with from the supermarket! The rice is delicious, with bits of vegetable (healthy!). The sauces are homemade and delicious. They have tacos with REAL shredded seasoned roast beef, not just hamburger! Chicken dishes are made with real cooked chicken. It is humble, but clean and friendly. Staff is very nice. Prices are terrific value. I cant say enough good things about this place, but you have to judge it FOR WHAT IT IS -- not a chain, not an upscale eatery, but a nice family owned little place where you can get a good Mexican lunch or dinner for the price of crap at Mickey D.

My first time trying el charrito since they changed hands... I could forgive everything else if everything hadnt been super SALTY. The mole sauce also had lots of sugar added to it :( Rice was both overcooked and dried out from the broiler. Fish taco was not the traditional fish taco but a frozen breaded fish fillet in a soft taco with some shredded lettuce and cheese. My pacifico was skunky. The dessert empanada also seemed different - less of the filling and more sugary. Service was a bit strange but ok. Overpriced for this type of food. I miss the old chef!!!!

Being from Texas and experiencing "authentic" Mexican food this place was far from it. Upon entering i hear country music, very authentic Mexican, not a single person in there looked in the least bit Mexican. Hence Americans attempting Mexican food. The salsa was dismal I honestly thought it was Tostitos brand salsa you get at grocery store. I ordered Chicken Enchiladas very simple dish. The chicken was gray with little to no seasoning, and quite bland in taste. In short NOT Authentic and Ill never go there again.

I have been going here since i was 4 years old. It is a great restaurant. One time i had gotten bad food. All the other 100+ times it was great! I love eating here and I always get the beef enchiladas. I love their chips and salsa too. Great little place for a sweet date, or a fun night out. I would def recommend it. I have brought foreigners here too and they loved loved the food.

Sooo sad!! Used to be such an authentic experience and such great food!!! Now its sooo hard to get somebody to wait on you and when you do, the order is NEVER right. Poor girl behind bar was only person waiting on tables as well as bar tending and we didnt want to send food back. Why take over such a great place if you dont want it to succeed ??? Never going back again!!!

I cannot say it is the best or worst Mexican I have had but I feel some reviews were a little harsh. Food is good, service was pretty good and very friendly, and the portion size was large. In fact, was actually surprised at the large amount of food in my order. they were busy, a good sign.

I grew up going to this place as a little kid. Their chile con queso is very good- they changed their recipe over the years which is a bummer but Ive always liked this place and the atmosphere eating in. I definitely think the reviews on here are harsh. Check it out!

I was going to go inside for mothers day but was confused because one sign said open and the other said closed. We stepped out of our car to check it out and were hit in the face with a strong odor of pigs feet. I didnt taste the food so I cant comment on that.

Worst mexican food Ive had in a long time. Cheese was burnt til hard ontop, cheese inside enchiladas tasted burnt and old. Rice was beyond dry, beans dry. Margaritas watered down and tasted off like the container is never cleaned.

Food was terrible. Who puts celery in salsa? Who puts carrots in mexican rice? What kind of cook can screw up huevos rancheros? Apparently we have an answer, El Charito.
