To whom it may concern(and I hope you read this): Last evening after numerous failed attempts to secure a reservation at Carbone, we were able to secure a table at 5:30 PM. By the way, No thanks to your reservation system which advised us that nothing was available at that hour. What happened to make this reservation possible is that we found ourselves in Lower Manhattan yesterday at 4 PM (on our way from Philadelphia Pa to a wake in Queens). On a lark, we drove by the restaurant and decided to see if in fact something might be available at 5:30 PM. We have desperately wanted to dine with you for some time and since we have planned a New York City visit with friends in October thought that after what we have heard about "CARBONE" it would be a perfect place to dine for all 8 of us. One of your employees advised us that in fact there would be room for us and we were thrilled. We were most graciously greeted, seated and made welcome by your accommodating staff. Your Sommelier, Tehria(sp), discussed the wine offerings and we settled upon a very nice Valpolicella Ripasso by the glass(would have had more if we werent driving). Your Waiter "A" was very attentive and made a number of suggestions to us. While we werent necessarily looking to order as much food as we did, we wanted to get the most from this experience so we followed his suggestions to the letter. What happened after that was almost surreal. With the exception of the Bread(Grand Daisy I suspect), Wine(delicious), Cheese, and Olive Oil (Puglia Region I believe we were told), (and none of which your kitchen had anything to with), the evening slowly fell apart. The House Salad was rendered almost inedible by the amount of oil that had been included as part of the dressing. Next up the Penne Pasta with Vodka was inundated with Salt. Same for the Meatballs. The Veal Parmigiana was nothing more than a butterflied Veal Chop pounded and breaded and hardly what I was expecting for $65 dollars. When I order this dish I dont expect to be consuming fat that is still in evidence on a veal chop! Ah, I save the best for last, when my wife asked "A" which of the fish dishes(MP) might be best. He asked when was the last time she had Dover Sole and we told him about a month ago. He said to have it. So she ordered it. Suffice it to say it was in keeping with everything else, overly salted and hardly edible. We took what we didnt finish home with us although God only knows what we will do with it. By the way $95 dollars is an insult given the quality of what we were expecting and essentially what we were hoping you to deliver. Shame on me (after the fact given the quality) for not asking what the market price was for any of the items not on the menu. We thought we were going to need dialysis. Finally, lest you think my wife and I are "Rubes" from out of town, I was born and raised in NYC and we have family living in Manhattan and Larchmont New York and as such we are regulars to the New York City area. But, maybe I am a "Rube" for having paid $363 dollars(tip included) for this DISAPPOINTING (UNDERSTATEMENT) meal. It is almost as if someone consciously set out to ruin ingredients that should almost cook themselves. Oh and heres something else for you to consider, stop hiding behind email as the only method of communicating. Never Again for the Slattery Family.

Totally overrated. Like, unbelievably so. The pasta was *good*. It was cooked well, the sauce was very good- but I am not writing home about it. The veal parmesan was a $65 disappointment. Its possible that I just dont like breaded/fried meat- but this just wasnt more special than something I expect to get at any decent Italian place. The bone served with it was the best part of the meal. The service is totally uncomfortable. The waiter we had was abrasive, not rude- not inconsiderate, but just aggressive. It is a loud swanky Italian place that has interesting character but nothing Id go back for. Its overpriced, overrated, and there are many better options in nyc. Not being able to easily get a table isnt an indicator of quality in this case.

Beautiful interior & they play fun oldies (at least when I was there for lunch). Warning...VERY expensive for Italian food. Probably why some people give lower ratings. However, they do do a couple things REALLY well that Id come back for. MUST GET: (seems everyone was getting the same 2 things!) Spicy Rigatoni Vodka -- pasta was al dente & the sauce was perfect, Id have this everyday! Veal Parmesan - the veal was super tender & I loved that it came with the bone so the meat by the bone was the best part. However, if I had to get ONE thing it would definitely be the rigatoni vodka pasta. DONT GET: linguini vongole -- way too salty & too much parsley. Tiramisu was just okay...and not your traditional tiramisu, more like a tiramisu cake.

Coming from an Italian family with amazing cooks, Im always hesitant when going to Italian restaurants, and therefore more critical. Carbone proved me wrong. We ordered chicken scarpariello that tasted even better than it looked. Cooked to perfection! The rave reviews I heard about the spicy rigatoni vodka were spot on and this is a must-order. Service was attentive without being annoying, and the staff served up a great sense of humor as well. Save room for dessert! Carrot cake was sinfully good and the limoncello was an excellent addition to our top-notch experience. Highly recommend Carbone... if you can get a reservation.

My husband and I had a 2pm lunch reservation and were running a few minutes late. By 2:15pm we were told the kitchen is closed with no further explanation or help. We had tried calling in advance to see if they could push us to a later reservation but they only answer to an email service. We were not able to get through. We were incredibly frustrated with the lack of customer service and attitude we received at the door. I dont care how good the food is, when the staff is that rude and unaccommodating, it ruins the experience and isnt worth the money. We will never try to go here again.

My favorite Italian in NYC. I love the old school vibe, the cozy, relaxed but upscale atmosphere. I know the 60s playlist which murmurs below the hum of conversation by heart. Yes - it is pricey but youre paying for more than food. Its the experience and the courtesy of the staff. The spicy rigatoni is every bit as good as everyone says it is. My boyfriend swears by the grilled octopus starter (I love the beet salad). And the cheesecake cannot be beaten. Good wine list. Great cocktails. All served with charm. Will keep coming back again and again.

Food was good, the music was loud. I was very disappointed with the wine "bait and switch"... they advertised a certain style/vintage and we were served something different. Once we explained the issue to the wine steward and to the owner afterwards; there was no followup. Basically, we were over charged several hundred dollars at our meal with ZERO consideration, follow up or resolution from the owner. They stole from us. They are (obviously) doing great now, but if they keep taking advantage of the clientele, they will fade in time.
