Had lunch there this afternoon. I cant complain about the quality of the food, however the services certainly needs improvement. Like most customers, I work in the corporate development of Melville and dont have the opportunity to sit for an elongated lunch, which I figured was obvious considering me and my associate were in suits and ties. We sat at the bar and ordered wings and salads. The wings took 30 minutes to appear on the pick up window (we were starving, so we were hawking it). The bar tender was stretched extremely thin (he was serving guests at the bar, making drinks, running food to tables and busing tables), and we were unable to flag him over to grab the wings. They sat there for 10 minutes and eventually came over to us dry and warm. We were in a rush, so we didnt play the send it back game. Then the salads, my salads came out wrong twice in a row! I asked for a chopped salad tossed in dressing, the first time they forgot to chop it, and then 10 minutes later the second time they didnt toss it in dressing. The bar tender caught the mistake but still the process was much longer then needed. My associate was finished before I started Honestly, the waiters and waitresses were just standing around, talking, looking at their phones with an attitude of "not my table not my problem". I really cant hold the bartender accountable because he was running around like a chicken with no head however I was expecting an "Im sorry for the confusion were short handed" or something, but he was completely unapologetic. I wasnt looking for anything to come off the bill, but some recognition of what we just dealt with would have been nice. I dont know if this was a "sit at the bar" type issue or if the place is completely mismanaged, but I dont see myself going there for lunch anytime soon.

So, because of all the good reviews here, I was really excited to try this place. Since spending a few years in Germany, I have always been on the hunt for a good authentic place. I went inside and was NOT greeted by anyone. I wandered over to the bar and sat down. I had to wait a good 3 or 4 minutes until the rude bartender came over and asked what I wanted to drink. I politely ordered and immediately she said, "You from out of town?" I countered with a chuckle and asked for a menu- since it wasnt offered. I got some crap they called authentic for some outrageous amount of money and when asked if I wanted bread- I said sure- not knowing it was an extra $4. Keep in mind that even though I was being treated like a piece of SH** I was ordering drinks. Surely this should have earned me BREAD. Even though this experience was not ideal- the beer was at least OKAY. This placed the place at about a 3 for me after leaving. So, I returned a few nights later and thought that I would at least have an appetizer and a beer and be on my out-of-town-way. I decided to sit at the other bar they have and was greeted by an extremely pleasant bartender. She was really cool, attentive, and was not determining her attentiveness to me based on whether or not I was from out of town. Unfortunately, she had no control over the RAW WINGS I was served. For this, you get ONE STAR Black Forest. I will not be returning EVER.

This is a very nice place to grab a nice crafted home made beer and a good German dinner..The bar area is usually crowded at Happy Hour as this is a meeting place to relax and unwind with fellow workers and the Friday happy hour is usually nicely packed. I was turned onto this place while working at a local radio station and we would do a live broadcast from there every now and then and of course, they would give us some food to sample as well as beer and talk about it on air and the food and beer were always a home run! must say i never went there for dinner until last week.Mind you i hadnt been in there in 10 years and it had not changed at all by way of quality. the sauerbraten was good, although i will say the red cabbage that came with had too much of a hint of clove to it for me, but the rest of the dish was superb. Our server Angela was an awesome server and was on top of all of her tables needs..if your in the area or dont mind travelling a few miles for a good German meal and some quality beer head to this place..better llok for it on google maps before you go as its location while not hard to get to for most, but would be for some who really dont know the area..

Very interesting to find a German beerhall themed restaurant in Long Island. The interior decor, while a little dated, might be worth coming to see by itself. The place is deceptively large with one whole section showcasing their beer brewing vats. They also have what appears to be a renovated party room. The staff was friendly, but not around enough (despite the relatively low number of patrons). We stayed late while they were cleaning up to close up for the night but they didnt pressure us to get out. If you like heavy, meaty meals, this place is for you. The schnitzel with gravy (jager) is better than the plain schnitzel as that really needs a sauce. The red cabbage is plentiful so I hope you like it. The portion size was large, but hard to justify $19 for deep fried chicken with cabbage and some dumpling. The pilsner and amber were good. We tried the appetizer sampler: wings (ok), peirogis (eh), pretzel (ok), some small roasted rib on a bone (excellent - wish I knew the name). So bottom line - if you like German food - this place is for you. If not, might be fun to come and check out the ambiance and good beer.

A nice German style brewpub. The beers were all very good. I started with the Big Rye Doppelbock, which had a nice malty flavor with a good deal of bitterness. It was rather strong (8.3%), but quite smooth. The rye adds a nice depth of flavor. My wife had the Black Forest Amber, an excellent, well balanced märzen/Oktoberfest style lager (GABF gold medal winner). I also had the Hefe-Weizen, which was excellent; a traditional Hefeweizen with a nice though not overpowering banana-clove flavor. The food was also quite good. They had a decent menu consisting of typical pub fare as well as some German specialties. We had some killer home-made pretzels that came with a great honey mustard. My wife and I split a great wing sampler that consisted of 30 huge wings (hot, BBQ, and Thai peanut). They were so big we had to take about 10 of them home with us!!!

Went there last night and it was really bad. They seated us straight across from a band that was so loud that we could not understand our own word. We complained and were seated in a really dark corner. Service was slow, the food was warm at best and everything tasted bland. If you want to open a can, do it at home and you can have the same taste for much less money. The waiter seemed unhappy with a 20% tipp and stood right in the doorway when we wanted to leave in a way that my husband had to ask him to move. Just hours after our visit all three of us who had the Schnitzel ended up with bad stomach aches.
