Want to get in a crappy mood real quick and meet Miss Piggys ego. Stop by the A and S Pork Store where customers try to keep up a cheesy smile as the short-tempered Italians behind the counter omnisciently give you sass when you try to make a custom sandwich. I am very picky and asked for ham, salami, and lettuce on Italian bread, instead, I got an attitude that they have such a large variety of sandwiches, there is no reason why I should make something to my full satisfactory. Now I hate oils and vinegars. I specifically asked for the #14 without vinegar. Now on top of the entitlement from the man at the counter making my sandwich, he didnt follow my request and I was sitting at my kitchen table for 10 minutes making sure I got all he vinegar off. By the way, we were robbed. He took $21 from us for 2 sandwiches and a seltzer. I was pretty ticked off if you cant tell. Thanks A and S Pork Store!

Now dont misunderstand my rating..its based moreso on the experience.. I have not been to this location in a few years since I moved out of the area.. and it seems now you cannot get a custom made sandwich . at a deli.. this baffled me.. and they have signs all over NO SUBSTITUIONS.. how hard is it to make a custom made sandwich as opposed to the ones listed on the menu.. sorry nope cant change anything around.. and they nice Italian man tried to tell me they have always done this.. sorry thats a lie.. the food of course is still top notch.. that would get 5 starts from me.. I visited A & A in Lincoln Park a few days later and viola I can have a custom sandwich at a DELI yay for me.. sorry A & S maybe rethink your less than accommodating ways.. still scratching my head..

No Substitutions! Capisce?!?!? The variety of products they sell of Italian persuasion is tremendous. They have a variety of subs and the flavors and quality are decent, if you can get past the gatekeepers that does not do couture sandwiches and prefer cash from credit (but they take both) youll be fine. It is a blast from the past where customization, customer service barely existed. The mindset is different - "we have quality products and this is what weve got, no more, no less - my house, my rules, deal with it". If you were born in the 70s and was a child of the 80s the phrase "GET OFF MY LAWN!" is like a bad joke and will not phase you - then you know what this is and you should be fine. Those younger will probably take offense.

The owner, or so I think he is (its the white guy with gray hair and mustache), is the grumpiest and most irritable person youll ever meet. God forbid you pay in credit versus cash, youll get a big "Ugh!" and a roll of the eyes. In addition, most days he doesnt want to serve sandwiches, even during lunch time! You are not even allowed to substitute any toppings. If you do, you get yelled at. I have to say, with such horrible customer service, the food just isnt worth it. As if hes doing me a favor by serving me. Will never step foot in this establishment ever again. Work on your people skills!

Heres a plaace you will have an espresso or cappucino that you wont forget. ALSO>>>> Rice Balls are the go to for great value, Maybe $3.75? for the best in the state. AND, the "Brooklyn Special" (Thin battered eggplant, arugala, and fresh mozz), And "November" (flash crisped turkey, roasted peppers, fresh mozz and a couple of other things) are Outrageously scrumptious/satifying/gourmet only-sold-here always-come-back-for sandwiches.

The best Italian Deli in the area. Dont be fooled by the name. It has a broad selection for vegetarians and even a Gluten Free Eggplant Parmesan. Try the Chicken Sausage with spinach and the little eggplant/mozzarella sandwich with the basil leaf on top.

Fantastic selection of Italian specialty items that are second to none. They have the highest quality meats & cheese. Plus their selection of deli sandwiches is awesome. I travel 2 hrs just for some home made Italian sausage and a Rocky Balboa!
