I was a Chipotle fan for a long time before I ever tried California Tortilla (hereafter referred to as Cal Tort). They recently opened this Cal Tort close to my house and since it was closer than Chipotle I figured I would give it a try. I was skeptical at first and figured it would just be a lame rip-off of Chipotle like a Qdoba or Moes deal. When I first walked in I was pleased with the atmosphere which was colorful and inviting. I walked up to the counter and was greeted with a pleasant hello which was different than the usual cold greeting at my local Chipotle. I was happy to see a menu full of choices and also I was also glad I didnt have to order down a cafeteria style line like at some places. After I placed my order I turned around to get my drink and saw the most glorious site I had yet to lay my eyes on all day. It was The Wall of Flame. This is where they have over 75 different kinds of hot sauce ranging from mildly spicy to colon cleansing fire sauce. I almost couldnt hold in my joy as I selected several kinds of hot sauces and brought them to my table. By the time I got back to the table they called my name indicating my meal was ready. When my food arrived at the table I looked down at the bundle of joy they called a California Screamin Burrito that consisted of blackened chicken, rice, queso and fajita veggies. It was so nicely rolled that I didnt want to eat, I just wanted to stare at it. It is important to have that perfect wrap on a burrito or else it just turns into a big mess after a few bites. After just lovingly staring at this masterpiece for a few minutes I began to douse it with a hot sauce called Rectal Rocket Fuel then promptly sunk my teeth into my first taste of my new love. from that first bite I knew that I was done with Chipotle and I would be having a long and passionate relationship with Cal Tort. I have been back several times since my first visit three weeks ago trying different menu selections and each one has been as good as the first. I look forward to the times that I can come back to my new favorite casual mexican restaurant.

This used to be my favorite place to eat. Since it opened I have eaten here prolly close to 75 times. It was the best and never got old. That is in the past however. Since it was recently sold the new ownership has really brought the place down. Everything from getting orders wrong to food quality to long lines at times. Its sad to see my favorite place to eat go right down to tubes. Tonight the straw that broke the camels back was my wifes food was all wrong. My tacos were soft shell instead of hard like I ordered. The quaso is all watery and the chips are chewy raw. The time before this I was in and a lady was in there mad as hell getting a refund for something(not sure what happened) but she still wanted the kids meals for her kids and I thought they should have given it to her given she was dissatisfied. But it seems like all kids run this place now as the manager that night couldnt have been older then 20 and did not handle the dissatisfied customer very well. That night I just wanted to order and they had a trainee up there taking orders unsupervised. Not the trainees fault but new management and ownership is terrible. I will stay away from now on. Edit: Have seen considerable improvement here since the new employees have started to settle in. I see the owners in here working which is great to see them engaged so many levels down. Operational improvements have led to better efficiencies and training for employees seems to be much better. I have seen some new employees starting out there but they have a partner watching and helping them learn. They still have the younger lady manager but she seems to have matured professionally as I do not see employees on their phones at nights when she is working and she is always visible. Glad to see this turn around because I always loved their food.

First thing that I noticed: Ingredients so fresh youd swear you were at the farm. My guacamole had to have been prepared merely hours before I consumed it! The romaine lettuce had a distinct crunch that Ive only ever experienced before when eating it from my garden. Now on to the rest of the review. I decided on the steak and chicken fajitas for my first meal. While a little pricey compared to the rest of the menu, the portion was huge! I received 3 tortillas, but the amount of chicken, steak, sour cream, guacamole, onions, peppers, lettuce, pico de gallo, black beans, and brown rice (wow thats a lot of food!) could have easily been divided among 5 or 6 tortillas. The steak was much more tender and juicy than a direct competitors. The chicken was also much less dry. To top it all off? They have a literal WALL of hot sauce to choose from. Theres so many choices, they provide a guide several pages long to help you pick. Each hot sauce is labelled with a number from 0-10 to let you know what kind of heat youre signing up for. I WILL BE COMING HERE AGAIN VERY SOON!

I like this place better than Chipotle because they have a more diverse menu. The food has been fresh and delicious on both of my visits. The Wall of Flame has 75 varieties of sauces. Some are familiar some are not, but the ones I have tried have been good. They have a scale of 1-10 for each bottle so you know how hot the sauce is. They should do some marketing and get this place noticed, I think people drive by and dont even know it is there.

Food is incredible, service is excellent, the owner is nice, etc. A great place to go eat. 75+ hot sauces available, no freezer in the whole place so everything is fresh. Meat is cooked on-site throughout the day. Guacamole? Made by scraping the insides out of a farm-fresh avocado. Hand-made everything. So fresh, so good, and considering the quality, great prices. Get the Burrito Elito card, rewards add up fasssst!

I got a California sunset bowl. I asked for romaine lettuce, they put iceberg lettuce on it. It was sloppy and just thrown in the bowl, the lid wasnt on all the way. I asked for no sauce, only to find they put sauce on it. When I got home to eat it, the guacamole didnt taste fresh at all so I called and spoke with the manager. She told me "oh it was made this morning, it must have been the avocados". Really.

Along the lines of Chipotle and Moes, but with that great Cali unique flavors style menus. I got two tacos (blacked chicken and tilapia) while wife had a burrito. This was a much more enjoyable experience to its counterparts, but just a shade lower quality I felt to the consistency of chipotle. But the queso and value was great, plus they have Pibb.

Very fresh, and very good food... moderately priced. The blackened chicken is my favorite. I also like the "wall of flame" with the variety of flavors and heat levels of hot sauce. Working my way up to a 9. Very surprised that this place isnt more popular, have never had to wait more than a minute to order and always plenty of seating.
