I have been coming here ALMOST everyday for about 2 months. I am a VERY picky coffee drinker and VERY picky with my pastries, as well as customer service. I gave this 5 stars because I love the tranquility, EXCELLENT personal customer service, EXCELLENT coffee, I buy large everytime and have had Berlina, quark balls, apple quark, raspberry/vanilla bar, almond/vanilla bar, mango cream cake...My advice is this: please do NOT come in here with a snobby, snap your finger attitude-go to Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks for that because there may be a wait. And PLEASE do NOT be IGNORANT, ask questions if you do NOT know the name of a pastry or what it is. DO not ever assume something is a donut or munchkin, those are AMERICAN, this is AUTHENTIC German goods. Because I work my own hours and have a hectic day, I come here for excellence and peace and quiet. No, I cannot afford this and I drive out of my way to come here. It IS THE best part of my day. Thank you so much for the owners kindness/warmth and the staffs personable touch and again having kind souls! In such a fast paced, money hungry world, this place is worth my time and my hard earned money!

I went on a baked-goods-buying rampage yesterday. It started at Carlos Bakery. I had never bought anything there and wanted to see if it lived up to the hype. I didnt expect it to, and it doesnt. However, on my way to buy coffee, I passed this little gem and couldnt help but buy something (more pastries!). I would like to pass out flyers to all of those poor benighted fools standing in line at Carlos, telling them they are at the wrong bakery. The Old German Bakery was amazing, much better than anything youll get at Carlos. At the Old German Bakery, you wont have to stand in line for two hours and your pastry will actually be fresh and made out of good quality ingredients....all for a better price tag. It is a win, win, win, win. Even better, this bakery is German-owned, and I suspect the pastries may actually be authentically German. I dont know enough about the subject matter to say for certain, but the product is convincing. Dont worry. You can still take your picture in front of Carlos. I wont tell anyone you didnt buy anything there.

I didnt get any sweets here but I did get this pastry filled with spinach, and this other pastry filled with eggplant and zucchini. The spinach one was a bit dry. I really enjoyed the eggplant and zucchini one because it also had some tomato sauce (?) in it, so it gave it a nice flavor. Judging from the rest of these reviews, I think I might be the only person who didnt go for the sweets. Overall, its a bit pricey but its good if youre in the area and youre looking for a savory snack thats somewhat healthy.

This place is awesome. The pastries are all very good and the coffee is excellent. The staff are nice people and answered all my questions with a smile. The prices arent bad at all. Just get there early because the food here goes quickly and they only make a certain amount of each item. I love this place and visit frequently. If you happen to be in Hoboken stop by here you will not be disappointed. 5 stars for sure.

We are from Ct. My wife and I spotted the bakery yesterday afternoon as we were about to return home from Hoboken and stopped for a cup of coffee and something sweet to go with it. It was a GREAT choice. We left with a loaf of Onion bread and 7 grain bread. Tried them both this morning. VERY happy we chose to buy the bread - they are delicious! We are only unhappy that live so far away.

Hands down THEE best pastries in Hoboken!!!! Sorry to say but shopped both at this one and Carlo"s Bakery and the Old German Bakerys quality and taste surpassed the Cake Boss hype... And the counter staff here was friendly and took the time to descibe everything in their glass case, and didnt treat us like a herd of cattle. Will return here for our next visit to the area.

Ein super schmeckendes Brot. Immer wenn wir jedes Jahr in Urlaub nach Hoboken kommen, sind wir glücklich so ein Brot zu bekommen. Die Brötchen schmecken übrigens auch sehr gut.

Well what shall I say, finally, finally a German bakery that deserves the name! Got the crusty bread and yes you have to have teath to eat, and thats how it is supposed to be. Beside that the bread tastes great. The cake, some real German variations. Can only say if you like German bakery products this is the place to go! Keep it up over there, Ill be back!

This Old German Bakery makes fantastic desserts from what i saw and had. It was a great place to come in, order a dessert, and rest while eating a delicious sweet high calorie pleasure. They have great German chocolate cake which I can confirm. Very helpful staff in helping you choose what you might want to try for the first time.

Im German and I like the typical dark, crusty German bread. After three month of looking for something at least similar I finally found the Old German Bakery and Im happy now! The bread is perfect - it smells delicious, and tastes just great. Real German bread made in Hoboken. By the way the "Apfelstrudel" is also delicious!

Ive been coming to this bakery for two years already, and I just love it. Thats the best bakery in the neighborhood! The cherry strudel, apple pie and cakes are out of this world, all breads are amazing! Thank you!!

Nice place for a coffee and pastry. Food is pretty tasty. The hot coffee is delicious. Iced coffee not as good. Basically just hot coffee with ice. And the staff are super nice and friendly.

Make sure you ask about the price before you buy it. German mouse had and cherry German cake were very generic, nothing close to a rich German chocolate. Stay away from the deserts here.
