As a foodie and someone who believes in supporting local businesses, I popped into Cake Ann to sample some of the baked goods. The apple tart was outstanding, fesh, homemade yumminess. I have had the sweet pastry that looks like a muffin, but is made from laminated croissant dough with sugar between the layers. Apparently, they roll their own laminated dough. As a cook/ baker, I can tell you that its a lot of work! Nice job. The third item I have tried over the past week is the hand made meat pie. My personal favorite. Made with a buttery flaky dough and stuffed with a nicely spiced turkey sausage, potatoes and a bit of cheese. Yum! I do a great deal of cooking and baking and can appreciate the work that goes into it. This is not a big commercial kitchen, knocking out pasties like Mikes from the North End, but a clean, local establishment, producing fresh homemade pastries in small batches. My son is stationed at Coast Guard Station Gloucester. His birthday was on Sunday August 6th. Late on Saturday the 5th I decided to try to have a cake or something sent to him even though I really didnt think there would be any place open. I was pleasantly surprised to find Cake Ann was going to be open on Sunday. I sent an email at about 11pm Saturday night and received a reply about 6am Sunday morning. I was able to make arrangements with Inga to deliver a cake and a dozen cupcakes to the station. I couldnt have been happier with Ingas response, willingness to help, and her enthusiasm to meet my son. The treats were a huge hit. The cupcakes received exceptionally high remarks from the crew. Inga, Thank You so much!!!!!

Got 2 cupcakes and a cake pop. Both pop and cupcake didnt taste like what they said was in it, cake was too dence, frosting is dence as well and didnt taste to well. Not a good selection, filling was verry scarce and verry hard, it actually hurt my teeth to bite into it. all togeather not to amazing like i was hoping. If youre in gloucester would recommend turtle alley not a bakery its a chocolate pleace but you will more pleased with the money you spend.

Im eating the German chocolate cake as Im writing this. All the 8 of us at the table are amazed at how moist and delicious the cake is. Superb handwriting. The buttercream is exquisite too.
