I visited the Hen House on a Tuesday night. It was empty. I placed my order on the counter and sat down and waited for what I thought was going to be a treat according to a lot of reviews I read. Speaking of the reviews, I read Zagats take on Hen House. The reviewer described the fried chicken as "delish" "makes your taste buds dance" or something like that. Good grief, I seriously wonder if these people ever even tasted real good food before, because the Hen House isnt good eats. Granted I didnt have everything on their menu. I just had what they are known for, fried chicken and a side of their "creamy home made mac and cheese." Fried chicken is not something you can get wrong. Its simple. Yet a lot of places manage to get it wrong. So back to the food I ordered. The chicken was not good. Yes, I can say it was made to order. But there was no taste. No salt, pepper or any spices at all. Just fried flour. Even the chicken itself was not seasoned. Now for the home made mac and cheese. This is where I lose it. Really I do. It was from a box. It was evident that it was from a box. I dont need to explain it to you; you had mac and cheese from a box before. That is what I got. Yes, it was home made from a box. Their staple menu item was blah, and their mac and cheese were not even home made. The worst thing is that they charge a premium price for it. Yep, the blue box you get at the store for 99 cents. Shameful really. If they didnt get that right, I would not be surprised if the rest of the menu is the same. But I may be wrong. I also hate to be that guy. But how Im Spanish, I can say it. Mexicans dont do soul food. Especially fried chicken. Its not in our culture. Honestly, if I didnt live in the south for 20 years, I wouldnt know good southern food at all. But I do, and Hen House is not it.

Wow! They created a loyal customer in 1 visit. Went to Guss 2 days in a row. The food is excellent and I cant say enough about the customer service. Ive lived in MA 30 years and expect that a lot of service is provided by folks that should not be in the service industry but these people are nice!!! Nice nice nice! The Hen House was my favorite!

Went there late night (about 3 am), so my opinion may be biased as i cant say that all my tastebuds were firing at that point. But from what i recall, the henhouse was the best chicken and waffles ive ever had. Probably going back every night until my arteries clog up completely.

Overall I feel like this place is hit or miss... when its good its really good and honestly their food is good most everytime Ive had it but there has been a few times where the food could of been a lot better

I had the chx & waffle plate. It came with the hugest drumsticks Ive ever seen. The waffles were crunchy in the out and soft and moist within. First time I have ever had a maple BBQ sauce its was very tasty.

Horrible food and poor service...a ripoff for burnt waffles and over crusty chicken and they we not busy but it took 20 min!!!it use to be good and I went often.....new owners/management

Tried it twice and both times the service was awful and the chicken is SUPER DRY...to make matters worse each time it took about 25-30 minutes to get our food..and it wasnt worth the wait.
