A group of us took a friend of ours to dinner at India Quality this past Sunday, and my, were we impressed! Our party ended up being 17 total, but the restaurant had a back table that accommodated us all reasonably comfortably, so we didnt need to split up. The waiters were also very accommodating -- they were quick to set up an extra spot (since our reservation started out at 12, then was updated to 16 just a half-hour in advance), and despite the large group, all of our food came at about the same time with minimal waiting. As far as I could tell, everyone was happy with what they ordered; portions and prices ($10-15/entree) seemed reasonable too. (Id say more about the food quality, except Im personally not well-versed in Indian cuisine -- so read other reviews for more on that! :P) Finally, at the end of dinner we were going to serve a cake which Id brought along, and this is where we were *really* impressed by the service. We hadnt even mentioned in our reservation that we were having a party, but as soon as the waiters saw us taking the cake out, they told us, "Just give us a few minutes and well clear the table first" -- and they took away the dishes from dinner and replaced them with appetizer plates, without us even asking! They also provided us with matches with which to light candles, and later on were very patient when we took forever to pay the bill. I dont think Ive ever been to a restaurant with a waitstaff this nice and helpful. I highly recommend India Quality for any sort of a large gathering!

If this is the quality of food in India, then I do not want to go. It blows my mind that it has such great reviews. For starters, the place looks dirty and isnt welcoming. The waiters were many but none of them took care of us. Now on to the disappointing food. We ordered many things because we were excited the place had such praising reviews. I even asked how long they have been in business, 31 years and counting. We got samosas as starters, they were nothing but a frozen flash fried catastrophe. The garlic naan bread was drenched in oil, had too much garlic and wasnt cooked throughout. This was also for the second naan, pashwari which had too much honey in it. The diet cokes we ordered came in a dirty glass, as a matter of fact all the glasses we got were dirty. I had lamb madras, it was a watery flavorless substance that I did not recognize as being that dish. The taste was only of spiciness and the lamb felt more like a rubbery beef. We also got chicken korma and it was distasteful as well. The rice we got was too flavorful with spices they used and it took away from other flavors. The bill wasnt cheap and definitely not worth the money. I do not recommend this place to anyone. Please dont waste your time and money.

We visited this restaurant in the summer of 15, and the only good thing about it is the location: loved the neighborhood, but very disappointed with this restaurant. I wouldnt recommend it. The place itself is clean, and quiet. However, the staff could have been more helpful and courteous: no one checked on us to find how we were doing....but thats not the worst part. The food didnt taste good at all... We had aalo paratha and paneer mattar, neither of which felt like authentic Indian or fusion. The food had too much oil...the aalo paratha had less aalo (cmon ppl ....it needs to taste like a paratha!!)...I dont want to go on. Good thing about the place is the value for money: a lot of food for a not-so-expensive meal. Owners, please do something about the food...or drop the name.

This restaurant is a perfect example of the "cant judge a book by its cover" cliche. Its nestled into one of the basement areas in Kenmore square, and doesnt look like much from the outside. But inside, it comes to life with a vibrant distinctly genuine Indian feel. The dishes were very good, and I felt obliged to sample the others around the table, as they looked so enticing. They did a very good job balancing spicing for unique, intriguing flavors in each dish. What really did it for me, though, was the quality of their breads. I fell in love with the simple garlic nan, which went perfectly with the dish as a side or scooping utensil. Our waiter was mild-mannered and extremely helpful as well. Would recommend to anyone.

Full disclosure: India Quality is the first place I ever had Indian food, nearly 15 years ago. There is of course always going to be a bit of nostalgia on reviewing such a place, but every devotee of every other Indian place in the Boston area has become a convert to IQ. Prices are very reasonable, especially for lunch, and portions are more than enough for leftover meals. Extraordinarily attentive and friendly service, so dont be afraid to ask for your food spicy if you like it that way, since theyll never let your water glass run empty. Food is consistently delicious and fresh -- great place for vegetarians, as well. Im anything but a vegetarian, but often get to the end of a meal and realize I ordered completely meat-free

Sub-par. Food was okay...nothing special though portion sizes looked small, they were good amount once out on plate like someone said. But it is overpriced and not much flavor at all. A trap for people because of its location near the university. Atmosphere was fine, but staff, the waiters were careless. Good with refilling water but a bunch of them, nearly all would gather and chit chat during busiest hours. And make fun and gossip in their own language about other customers right in front of them. Thought that was very rude - I saw it being done to one family. Was always watching and commenting about them like entertainment. Probably wont come back ever again.

Out of all the Indian digs Ive been to Im boston, this has been my favorite for years. Docking one star because over the past year or so, the (India) quality of the Naan has nose dived. What used to be passable is now super dense and nearly undercooked chewy, to the point where I dont even order Naan there anymore, which is a HUGE shame bc good Naan is heavenly. The vegetable/ vegetarian dishes are still bomb and often takes me that way, but not as often as before due to Naan issue. Its a big deal that the saag is so good that Im still giving this place 4 stars. Just get the roti or paratha, skip the Naan. Oh and when you want spicy, theyll give you spicy!

Dont be put off by the fact that this place is essentially a basement. The food is top notch. Its by far the best Ive had in Boston. Im partial to the lamb, but the beef and vegetarian options Ive tried are also excellent. Like most Indian places, they give the option to cater the spiciness to your taste. The service is fabulous, too. In all the times Ive been there, I dont think that Ive ever emptied a water glass. Theyre constantly refilling it, and the food arrives promptly. This place gives Eastern Standard and Island Creek a run for their money as the top restaurant at Kenmore, and its infinitely less expensive
