Fish & chips are comfort food for me. As a boy growing up in a Catholic family in Southern California, my parents frequently indulged in Fish & Chips from the local Fish & Chips place near our home. For many years, it was H. Salt Fish & Chips. Then when H. Salt had to shut down to make room for a bigger supermarket, another privately owned place quickly sprung up in its place. They were always pleasant, enjoyable meals for a quick family night out. Slowly, over the years, it was sad to see places like that deteriorate in quality. They often changed ownership and drifted into strange, horrible little hybrid restaurants like "Fish & Chips and Chinese Food" or "Fish and Chips and Donuts". I guess it was a big market, so it just went downhill. When I moved to the Bay Area, I was excited to discover an H. Salt on Blossom Hill near Costco. My wife and I went there full of optimism. The owner was incredibly nice to us and the service was excellent, but the food certainly didnt live up to my memories of H. Salt from my childhood. It was heavy with grease and had a nasty fishy taste to it. We were the only customers in there the whole time we were there. I had somewhat given up hope for finding a decent Fish & Chips place until I came up Tugboat Fish & Chips on Blossom Hill near Cahalan Ave (near Outback Steakhouse). This place is great! The batter is light and the fish is high quality throughout without any nasty spoiled fish flavor. They serve nice, big pieces of fish too. A 1-piece with chips makes a full meal for me. I now frequent Tugboat on weekends whenever I drive by that strip mall near lunchtime. Everytime Ive been in there, theyve always got a healthy-sized crowd seated at the tables and a good take-out business going as well, so you know the fish is getting good throughput without sitting around to spoil. The cook the food right as you order too. It doesnt sit around under any heatlamps. They also serve a variety of other fried seafoods, chicken strips, corn dogs, and hush puppies. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and always clean everytime I go there.

This is a small place with fun fishing related decor.They should get some tables outside, I think the fish and chips are pretty average in price. I got the fish and oysters. The fish strips were pretty big and crunchy, and the crispy golden batter made it look like tempura. The oysters were good too but were a little overcooked for oysters. I have had fried oysters in Japanese restaurants so I know how they could be cooked.They were not plump and juicy inside. I think they should cook them for a little less time.They were very crispy, though. The ambiance was overall pretty nice.

This is one of the better fish and chips place in the south bay. The fish are huge. It’s as if they filleted half a fish and fried it. I believe these are beer battered, but I could be mistaken. The fries are good and complement the greasy fish well. If you eat in, you’ll get whole bottles of ketchup and tartar sauce for your meal. I can’t say anything about the other menu items other than the clams. I wouldn’t get the clams again as last time I got mostly batter crumbs.

I originally rated this place higher but I had to lower it after finishing the fish, the portion size is a very big disappointment, just 1x8 inch long and thin. Without the batter you could probably see through it. After letting the fish cool enough to eat, the flavor of the fish was totally overpowered by the flavor of the fry oil. The order of calamari was so overbattered that you couldnt see much less taste the small rubber bands of squid

FRESH fish and chips, not a huge place but descent menu options and we like to order carry out anyways. I gave it 4, not 5 because they dont salt the fries right away, some prefer to salt themselves, but I like the salt to STICK TO my fries. And, the batter is not bad, but its a tad bit bland. We still enjoy this place, but its not a favorite, just a fried foods option.

I hate writing this review because this is my secret place. It is so good. They have a daily special that is only $7.79. It is usually 3 fried prawns and 1 pc fish & fries. My favorite to order. Today it was 6 pcs prawns & fries. The batter is light and crunchy. I have never had a bad meal here. The oil they use is fresh. The service is friendly.

Really great fish and chips place. Small but clean. Portions are big and the prices arent bad at all. The food is good. I like their deep fried prawns, veggies and fish. Havent tried the oysters or catfish. Service is fast and the food made when you order. Would definitely recommend it and will be going back.

We have been coming to this place for years now and we think its the best fish and chips around. The fish is battered and cooked right in front of you. The portions are always more than enough and do you WONT pay $12 to get some crappy plate in a big restaurant. Always clean, friendly and fast.

Great fish and chips at a good price - friendly staff - would definitely come back! Large portions. Update: my gf may have gotten food poisening from tartar sauce being left out - will update again if its the flu but right now looks like they might need to keep that refrigerated.
