Food: I had waffles with a side order of bacon. Both were essentially a bit tasteless. Waffles were competently cooked but lacked in taste, I HAD to use the overly sugary pecan butter with syrup to make it edible. The Glass o Bacon was good in texture but had very little taste - tasted the candied part of it plus a bit of pepper but what happened to the bacon taste? Service: I have mixed feelings about the service, but in the end, it was good overall. I got my food, not much else on drink refills or offers to, but got my check accurately - a very good thing considering there were 12 people, each of us with our own food and separate checks. Plus our waitress took care of one of my acquaintances when she discovered egg shells in her eggs Benedict - our waitress gave her a heavily discounted check for the shells. Bravo! Misc: Place seemed nice albeit crowded. Bathrooms are in the back and fairly clean. We initially attempted a reservation for a party of 12, and they could not guarantee such a large group, but this can be sorted out by 2 groups of 6 NEAR each other. Problem solved! The bunch of us went to Cafe Hollander for brunch, but they seem to have a good menu of other sandwiches and stuff, so its worth another try. Plus they do have beer and mixed drinks too.

With an above average selection of beers, this place is great for a bougie brew-accompanied get-together with your chums. The atmosphere is comfortable—dimmed lighting makes for some intimacy (date, friends, whatever) while the big-screens arent terribly distracting. Usually a little noisy but not in a bad way—just enough to either focus you on your own convo or listen in to others. The food however, has always been under seasoned and boring. Ive eaten here numerous times, from all the menus. The frites arent as amazing as everyone claims, and the cone they serve them in is awkward to eat from (too tall, contents not visible while seated at a table, rather than the bar). On a good note, the sauces arent bad and most of the sandwiches are safe and a good value. Oh, and the service has always been pleasant—not forced or awkward, and very accommodating. If the food were better, and a better value, Id stop in more often.

The only reason Im giving this place 1 star is because the location is in my favorite part of Milwaukee. We arrived before 11AM to order breakfast. When I asked for the breakfast menu, the lady server said "your too late breakfast...sorry" then walked away. After waiting several minutes, she came back and said "are you ready to order?"in a very abrupt manner. I requested the manager. I noticed the servers bringing breakfast plates to tables all around me. When the manager arrived, he said,"Sorry, it is now 1 minute after 11AM, we stop serving breakfast! That did it. I didnt even have a chance to write a food review. I got up and left this place and went directly across the street to The Original Pancake House and not only got 5 star service, but the breakfast was superb! If the owner of this establishment happens to read this review, remember this all too important rule of business, CUSTOMER SERVICE IS EVERYTHING.

Excellent in every way. Wonderful atmosphere inside and outside. Warm dark woods and pleasant music. Seating upstairs, by the windows, at the bar, on the sidewalk or on the patio. Very clean and smelled wonderful. Service was prompt, professional and friendly. No Food is not that expensive considering local prices and the high quality of ingredients and creative preparation. It is hard to find places that serve fresh ground prime hamburger and are also willing to cook it to only medium rare. (You have to make sure you trust the cleanliness of the place to avoid food poisoning. I always check the bathrooms to see how clean they are. Only if they are spotless will I order medium rare ground meat.) Everything was prepared wonderfully and delicious. Highly recommend!

First visit to Cafe Hollander, the throngs of people awaiting Sunday brunch was advertisment enough. Good food, one of the best bloodies Ive ever had and some of the poorest service Ive seen in my half-decade in the restaurant industry. Generally slow, the cake was taken when the server delivered our food to the table next to us, took 5 minutes to realize the mistake and (after informing the table that received our food immediately) proceeded to wait another 5 minutes before informing us of what we could already clearly see. Two stars is a sincere compliment to both the chefs and bar staff; had either not been present Id never give this place another chance.

The food was tasty but the portions were small. The atmosphere was lively and the outdoor seating was nice. The bad part about our experience was the time it took for us to get any service. Our waiter was friendly but we didnt get our appetizer for a half hour, when we finally got our food 25 minutes after the appetizer we sat with dirty plates at our table for another 30 minutes before we saw our waiter to ask for the check, and finally 15 minutes for the check. This was a 2 hour experience to get a waffle and a wrap. I would say this is a good place to go if you are not in a rush and have quite a bit of time to spare. Food is good but wait time is long.

I will not penalize the waitress in my first experience after all she did not seat me or cook food. Seated by window with several live flies. Food was not good as 98% of it was returned. Someone show cook how to make scrambled eggs, not dry hard eggs. Waitress was nice, polite, and hard worker and she did receive a tip for her service, but she should not have to serve bad food to customers while the so called chef/cook gets to hide. Get it together Cafe Hollander the good reviews I heard in past did not match up to todays experience.

I would stay this is the best location to take your family if they are here for the visit. Not only is the location great but the service, selection of beer and food is to die for. They have so many beers on tap it is almost overwhelming. The food is very tasty and I would recommend the cafe burger for anyone that wants a great burger. The inside is very welcoming and has an interesting bicycle theme to it. The outside patio is very nice during the warm months. I would definitely recommend this place for a good date also.

We arrived early (around 5:00 pm on Saturday) and were seated right away. We ordered cheese curds for an appetizer and they were delicious. The menu options arent your everyday burgers and sandwiches. I like that they offer up something a little different than everyone else. The beer selection was great. Our meals were prepared as ordered and arrived in a reasonable time. While we ate inside, there was a large outdoor dining area if that interests you. I would definitely go back.

Ordered a quiche and a sandwhich.... FOUND THE SAME KIND OF HAIR IN BOTH It would have been fine if the food was replaced and taken off the bill, but the waitress wasnt able to find a manager and asked us what we even wanted from the situation, which put us in an extremely awkward position. Ended up striking the bill for the quiche and the sandwhich, but we were still made to pay for the rest of the food, which we were too disgusted to eat. Left on an empty stomach.
