Ive been coming to the Fisherman for about twenty years now, and while I still feel the food is generally good, the experience is definitely not what it used to be in this restaurants prime in the late 90s and early 2000s. Back then, the views of Elliott Bay and the Seattle Waterfront were unobstructed by the Great Wheel, and were simply breathtaking on a clear day. Food was superb, portions were big for a reasonable price, cleanliness was above average, and customer service was attentive and friendly-always helpful. These days when Ive visited the Fisherman, quality and flavor of meals has been inconsistent, prices are higher for less food, Ive seen tables unbussed for hours, and servers are sometimes preoccupied, untrained, and once in a while, just rude. Perhaps I am being sentimental about better times, but the restaurant still seems to have just enough potential for restored greatness that I keep coming back. However, for this establishment to really stand out again like it once did, the owners need to concentrate on some essentials from Restaurant 101. 1. Insist on fresh ingredients, properly prepared and seasoned, to make meals which are served hot in a timely fashion. 2. You may not be able to do anything about the big ferris wheel in the way, but clear a dining area as close to the water as possible, with clear, unobstructed windows. 3. Attention to detail is everything. Keep the restaurant, cooking spaces, and bathrooms sanitary and clean. 4. If you offer a feast, keep it a signature dining event with fresh bread and butter, great chowders, buckets brimming with clams and mussels, the freshest salad greens, the very best salmon/halibut/Dungeness/King Crab in town, and dont forget some nice fruit for some sweetness after the meal. This was the Fishermans claim to culinary greatness which brought the customers in droves, so make it as superb as possible while finding a way to make it a good value for the money. 5. Train and empower your employees to give outstanding service at all times. 6. Refuse to be content as just another tourist trap. Strive for excellence always! Your customers and your staff will see the difference

So I obviously had a bad experience here. I went here on a weekday ( thinking it wouldnt be busy) with my family from out of town. My husband and I wanted to show my family a good time and thought this place would be good. So we were a party of 5. 4 adults and 1 baby. Starting off we waited about 45 min to be seated since we opted for outside seating. The lady forgot to out our name down the first time we went in so we waited an added 20 min for her mistake. We then were guided ( if you want to even call it that, she did not wait for our whole party to follow) to a table where honestly it was crowded and it was a table with lawn chairs. Nothing impressive at all. They had absolutely no accommodation for my baby and so we had to use our stroller and of course that was in the way of everyone (no matter how close we scooted it to our table). So up to this point I was fine, ok we waited a hella long time and theres no accommodation for my baby. But what BLEW ME AWAY was that my dad found something he liked and wanted on the menu and when he asked if he could change a side the server said no unless we wanted him to ask the chef.(ya like we want piss in our food) so my dad opted for a simple clam chowder. Anyways we all ordered something we mostly liked knowing we couldnt change anything about the plate. When our food finally came I asked if they had steak sauce or something like that and the waiter said no!!! My dad was scared to ask if they had hot sauce, he did anyways and at least they had that. I was really disappointed in this place. I felt so bad for my family and then having to pay a ridiculous amount......yea NEVER again!

Visiting Seattle for a week and were down on the water front and decided to stop in for a drink and appetizers. The hostess directed us through the bar to outside seating and told us to just sit to the left of the potted plants. Walking through the bar we noticed there was a second hostess seating people so we went up to her and asked for a table - stating we wanted drinks and appetizers. She pointed over to the railing and said we could sit there. Didnt escort us or anything, but no biggie Im a big boy but when I selected a table, a waiter (later learned he was a bust boy) came up and said we couldnt sit there unless we were ordering an entree. I informed him the hostess had directed us to this section; well eventually we were seated and a third hostess came up and seemed upset we were there and she had to give us menus. Eventually we got our waitress and things turned around. She was funny, very efficient, and the food was great but expensive. My wife liked her meal so much we went back several days later for lunch and had a much better experience. We were seated quickly (at a table with an excellent view of the water and Wheel), the waiter was great, and the food was again good and again expensive. For those vets who plan to visit the restaurant, they do not give discounts.

To those who want a quick opinion: I would skip this restaurant, more of my experience below: Went in for evening Dinner on a Wednesday for my first time. The food is ok but is not worth the money. They also dont have options even when it involves the same repeated items. We ordered: 12oz New York steak, clam chowder soup, Caesar salad, bucket of clams and a half Dungeness crab and grilled king salmon. We opted for the view outside but everyone is seated very tightly together on plastic white lawn chairs and you cant fully enjoy the view of the water. There are also people/public all around the outside walking on the edge of the deck. When we arrived the front clerk took our names and said they would text us in 25mins. I came back 30mins after and apparently they did not take our names down. Our server did what he was there to do and thats it. I often look at the servers for that friendly smile or suggestions or just over all customer service but not in this case. I do respect all servers everywhere and appreciate their efforts with tips and hope this restaurant has better servers then who we were with. Over all I will probably not go again just because food is not worth the price, even if you go to sit by the water you wont get what you expected and customer service is very low.

RUDE BARTENDER I came to this restaurant to have a drink but the bartender was just plain rude. I went to the bar with my 11 year-old daughter, who was standing right behind me and not even by the bar. So, by the time I noticed the bartender was talking to me all I heard him saying was "do you understand what Im saying?" To what I replied "What do you mean? Whats with the attitude?" He claimed he had asked me twice if my daughter was with me because she couldnt be there. I told him that first of all I didnt think he was talking to me and secondly I was wondering why my daughter couldnt be there when we just wanted to get a drink and go back to our table (which by the way we had been waiting and no waiter had come after a few minutes). Anyway, after going back and forth, in short, it turns out that in Seattle no minors are allowed in the bar area. But how does he expect me to know that when Im coming from a different state? This is not about what he said to me but how rudely he went about it. In Texas, at restaurants with bars kids are allowed to be by the bar area as long as they dont sit at the bar. Well, to say the least, this experience didnt give me the good Seattle experience. Not a friendly city.
