My wife & I decided to give this place a shot last week. I figured a place with a book of wines and $20 entrees should be pretty good, right? Well, not so much. The place is quaint and small, so our being seated in the only available table in the back very close to a 6 top wasn’t a surprise. After ordering a bottle of rosé and our entrees, we had to wait long enough to wonder if bread was included with the meal. It was, just took a while to get to the table. As did our rosé – finally, our waitress came to explain that the wine wasn’t quite chilled enough & was on ice. Perfectly acceptable! At $35, we’d like it to be nice & chilled. Sometime later, she brought it to the table. Not only was it not chilled, it was actually WARM. She poured us a couple small glasses to tide us over & said she’d put it on ice in the hopes it would be chilled by the time our food got there. 20 minutes in the freezer wouldn’t get this wine to proper temperature! We’d be done with our meals by then… We decided against the wine, so she brought us a glass of the rosé they were selling by the glass that day, but it wasn’t that good. We decided wine wasnt in the cards that night. The meal arrived. The albacore tuna I ordered was well done with a very small amount of rare in the middle. My wife’s pasta dish had seared scallops and slightly underdone shrimp in it. Fine, we just switched as she likes over cooked tuna & I don’t prefer, but don’t mind underdone scallops & shrimp. Overall though, this place missed the mark in a few ways. I don’t recommend it.

We went to Portifino for drinks and diner. We reserved a table for Six. Four of us showed up a bit early as the restaurant had just opened. We were seated and offered water and for our drink orders. There was another couple already seated. Other than that the place was empty. The waited acted overloaded from the start. Our friends were running late and I had not eaten since 10:30 AM. I called the waiter over to tell him that I had to eat and to not wait for the other guests to arrive. I then gave him my order and verified that there would be not Bell peppers in my dish. We then got a call from friends to tell us three more people would be joining us. The place was still basically empty, but we were repeatedly told that they had no more room and we needed to make room. 45 minutes later after one beer and other guests getting their meals, I demanded my food as I was now getting ill from low blood sugar. No bread was brought to the table until just before I asked were my meal was. I cannot eat wheat. I got a weak apology about how he did not understand my request to be fed earlier than the group. At that point he did hurry up the kitchen to get me my meal. I thanked him and began to eat. I stopped when I hit the Bell Peppers. Needless to say I will never return to this most unwelcoming place. The regulars were treated well and were served long before me.

One star because the owner is an ass. Our server was attentive and polite, food was okay. Entire visit had a bad tone right from the start. We (party of two) walked in right ahead of a party of five (apparently very important people). Our server sat us at one of three empty two seat tables, then immediately sat the important folks at a table set up for them. The owner had hushed, but harsh words, with our server out in the open right after seating them and during this beratement glanced towards our table. We were unsure what the subject was but we were a part of it somehow. This was confirmed by another server we spoke to on our way out. Perhaps it was a bad night for the owner or just bad timing, walking in at same time as the other party. The owner made the rounds to all tables but one, ours. We are in town visiting and his business will not be hurt by our absence. Just beware.

I honestly think Portofino has the best sausage I have ever had of any restaurant ever. That and their wine list is spectacular and their olive oil is more fresh than most restaurants. Their staff is knowledgeable and for a nice restaurant I have been there five times and have always gotten food rather fast even when every table is filled. I know that my experience is not everyones but you can compare Portofino to places in Portland like Il Piato and Il Piazzo except that it is better IMHO in terms of service, quality, and wine selection. I have never gone for other than dinner though so maybe the other services are not as good but their dinner service is spectacular every time I have gone.

This is a fabulous restaurant with attentive service and excellent food. I brought a friend here with many food allergies, and they accommodated all her concerns. Seth is a wonderful host and made suggestions for her choices so she could enjoy the evening and dinner. Nothing but rave reviews from my friend. They make a killer Lemon Drop (from what I think is the home-made limoncello). Dont let the old reviews scare you - this is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant - no need to be a regular to get good service and food. Ask for the scallops in saffron sauce with the home-made pasta. Its not on the menu any longer, but if scallops are, they are happy to make it. The best!

Tonight i went to visit this establishment and found it disappointing. First of all, for a sunday with very little clientel and such a small place the service was mediocre. My server was not very attentative nor did engage in the proper followups throughtout the course of the meal. The food was ok but lacked taste, the gnocchi was very disappointing and i do not recommend it. To make things worse the only olive oil given is extra virgin olive oil, which is great for cooking but not for eating with salad or bread or ur meal. So you are actually paying for a nice environment because this establishment is very pretty, but thats all.

I cant stop thinking about how Im so glad that we found this amazing Italian restaurant and I cant wait to go back. I had the pasta dinner special and my boyfriend had the lamb and gnocchi. They both melted in our mouths! The portions were perfect, the food came out nice and warm, and oh wow was the dessert amazing. The staff and owner are very friendly and welcoming too. The owner helped us with our wine selection which can be overwhelming with so much to choose from. Portofinos is great for a special night out or even an impromptu date night like ours turned out to be.

I was visiting from the UK and we were a party of eight on the Friday (early) evening before Christmas. We found the restaurant very overpriced for what was a very standard meal. My entree in fact was under cooked , having order scampi ravioli and the pasta was raw. When the waitress cleared plates I told her why I hadnt been able to eat the pasta. It was then presented to me in a takeaway box!!!! There was no apology or any kind of reaction from the management. My Portland friends will not be using the restaurant again or recommending it, other than to avoid it.
