The BBQ is excellent, they definitely brought the taste over from the skylight in. Sadly thats it. The slaw is bland, the cornbread was ultra hard on the outside and undercooked in the middle and tasted really bad. And I got all this for almost $10 and thats without a drink. And that was one of the cheapest things there. The portions were laughable, you could hear everything slide around in the big to go tray. So you knew you werent getting your moneys worth. I ate it all and was still hungry. Every BBQ place from Greenville, Winterville, and Ayden will give you larges portions cheaper than what youll pay here. And for the most part, they will be better. That only thing good at Sam Jones is the BBQ, but its not worth the money just to be hungry again a few minutes later. The service was awkward. Most of them were nice, but you could feel that they really just wanted you to not be there at all... And I was the only one in line and they werent busy. Great way to make your customers feel welcomed. Save yourself some money and go to Parkers, Moores, or Ms Bs, you send alot less and have some for leftovers. This is not a very affordable restaurant for families.

My family ate at Sam Jones for lunch on Thursday. We were a little put off by the price, but we assumed we were in for a great meal so we paid. We all 3 ordered the BBQ sandwich plate with fries. The BBQ was cold, not cold from the slaw on top, but cold like it had been taken out of the refrigerator an hour earlier. I was already irritated by the very loud atmosphere, and decided not to ask for my money back, but just eat my lunch before I had to go back to work. Big mistake. Im pregnant, and it is now Sunday and I am still having stomach trouble. The rest of my family was not right for a few days as well. Aside from the unsafe food temperature, the slaw was unremarkable, the BBQ was not the vinegar and red pepper eastern carolina BBQ I had been expecting, and the fries are somewhat soggy and overly salted. Coming from a background in food service, I tend to overlook most of the things that other diners would gripe about. But food safety is not one of them. It didnt occur to me that it was dangerous for me to have eaten that sandwich until I was sick a few hours later. I will not be back.

I can cook a pretty darn good hog myself. That said, if youre looking for that backyard wood smoking pig pickin taste this is the place to go. The chopped bbq is perfectly cooked n seasoned. Ribs are very moist to about fall off bone. The sauces...not too sweet not to tangy. Personally I prefer little more spice (heat) and vinegar but that doesnt detract from my rating. There is 3 down sides that also dont count against rating. One, there is little to no green veggies offered...some collards or green beans would be awesome with your smoked meats. Two, hard chairs yeah if you have back hip problems bring a cushion lol. Three, one item I wish I got but not mentioned by staff was the pork skins and pimento cheese platter. Found out it was written on a board at entrance. Ive been to lots of bbq places up n down east coast...Ill definitely will be back again....soon.

Maybe I came on an off day? Went at dinner time on Friday. Im not from this area so I didnt grow up eating eastern bbq. The bbq had a lovely smoky flavor but I chose to douse it the spicy vinegar sauce. Bbq portion was great! The cornbread which We saw a on a tv show on was so dry and old tasting. I loved the slaw which balanced out the bbq perfectly. The beans I didnt touch though. They reminded me of something on the lunch menu in elementary school. Ketchupy tasting with a bunch of ground meat. My Husband got the chicken which he said was good but his fresh chips were cold and his corn bread stale. Service was fantastic and fast. Kinda left disappointed after wanting to dine here for months. Still four stars for the history and admiration of keeping the tradition going.

The only time a wait staff stopped by our table was to clean our table. They never refilled our drinks. The table next to us had their drinks refilled. The price ratio to product given was not equal. I had heard great things about this restaurant but we did not see that during our visit.” Here is their response. I apologize for your experience. The service provided to you was not the visit we want our customers to have. I hope you will give us another try. Thank you for visiting us today. I am glad they pay attention to their customers after they leave and are open to customer feedback. After the next visit I will reevaluate.

Delicious food at extremely overpriced menu prices I will make my review short and to the point: 5 stars for the food. The pulled pork was tasty. The ribs were very tender and juicy. The slaw was a little sweet. The corn bread is as hard as drywall, but thats how they make it. Takes some getting used to, but I like it. They have probably the best BBQ east of I-95. Unfortunately, I have no choice but to give 0 star for the prices. This is Greenville/Winterville area. These high prices will shock even someone from New York City or San Francisco. I dont mind paying for qualify food, but getting gouged is just wrong.

I ordered the ribs, slaw, fries and an iced tea. Two of the ribs were meaty and tender, but the rest were scarce on meat and over-cooked to the point of being dried out and tough to eat. The slaw was OK, but too sweet for my taste and served in a little cardboard box. The fries, served looked as though they were left in the pan too long and went limp and wrinkled up. That platter was $14.00. My wife ordered the chicken with slaw and macaroni and cheese for $10.00. She got a small thigh with leg attached. The mac and cheese was very small. The food was not good and too expensive. I wont be eating there again.

Ate here last week had ribs must say they were some of the best ribs I have eaten. I found the staff to be friendly and the restaurant to be very clean. I dont know why anyone would complain on portion sizes and cost I had more then enough food for myself and still took home food. My daughter also had enough food to take home for a snack. I found the pricing to be inline with quality food and service. Will definitely be back next time Im in the Greenville area. Have already told several people to make sure they visited your establishment when they go to Greenville.

I ordered the pick 3 double turkey and ribs and was served 2 and a half slices of turkey that means I would of been paying 4.00 a slice Sam have you lost your mind I have known you since you were a young teen always supported you and the Jones family but thats why robbery just left returned all food and got my money back and I refuse to fuss with your employee who served our food. Taking my family to Texas roadhouse where the food is also good not cheating on the amounts served and I dont have to fuss with staff
