One of the best Japanese comfort food, especially during Autumn & Winter seasons is Ramen. So, when I heard a new Ramen restaurant was opening up in Washington Heights, where there is no real Japanese restaurant around, I was very excited! The owners are husband and wife team, and the wife is Japanese! They named their restaurant after their favorite movie called Tampopo. It is about the search for the perfect bowl of Ramen. There are some quotes from the movie painted on the wall which is pretty cute and funny. The inside is not too big, has a counter seating around the kitchen, and extends to the front of the restaurant. There are few table seating as well, but I think it has about 20 seats in total. Their Ramen is Tokyo Style, and they use chicken base and veggie base broth, which is very interesting. Most of the Ramen you see in NYC are pork based, so it is nice to have a different variety in the city. I really enjoyed their Ramen and also some side dishes, especially the karaage (fried chicken), it was really delicious! Friendly staff and great Japanese food, I will be sure to go back there for more! Read my full review of this restaurant and food on my blog, foodlovergirl.

Came here on a Monday around 6:00PM. Ambiance: Like most ramen noodle restaurants, this place is very small and ideal for groups of 3 or less. It was pretty empty when we got there but by the time we left, there were about 7 people there, who seemed like mostly locals. Service: Waitress was polite and attentive. Food: I had the veggie miso and although I liked the veggies the broth did not have much flavor and I had to ask for hot sauce to spice it up. The ramen portions were perfect. My boyfriend had the chicken curry special and it was pretty good. We also had the dumplings and they were pretty tasty although could be a little bigger. I would not object to returning to try other dishes.

Last semester in the spring I gained an obsession with Ramen. Ive gone to a bunch in the city, but for me I always return to tampopo! Their ramen is addicting and for that entire semester I came their every week since Ive discovered tampopo. There servers are always friendly and quick. To add to the experience, you can sit at the bar and watch the ramen being made, which is always fun! Ive brought many of my friends here over the months, and itll probably always be one of my favorite ramen places. Its small, cozy, and has a very beautiful design and aesthetic. If you love smaller ramen shops but with the quality of larger establishments, Tampopo is the place for you!

Tampopo is one of my go to ramen spots in upper NYC. This time 7-24 I was so flabbergasted! The server refused to sit me outside but sat a 4-top outside 10 minutes later. Rushed my order (spicy miso con pollo) and placed the check immediately. I asked for sake later. Fine, but dont you want coins? They changed the cooking order of the ramen. Theyve been flash frying the ingredients and then adding noodles and then miso. More ingredients, less miso. The food is still delicious, but service isnt their priority at this point. Curious, since ROKC is not too far. Fortunately, these love-muffins at Tampopo reached out and all is well !!!

If I lived a little closer I might go every once in awhile, but I dont think Id walk ten blocks to go again. Staff was friendly, location looks nice. Food was alright, but not one of the better ramens Ive had in NYC. The broth was a little thin. Didnt have that warm, fatty, umami flavor youre hoping for in ramen. The noodles came out of individual portion-size plastic bags that I saw the kitchen staff opening up. I dont know if thats standard practice, but it definitely wasnt the sexiest way to watch your noodles prepared. Maybe Ill try again later and see if theres been some improvement in the recipes...

Tiny place, gets crowded with a few people however I didnt wait long, service was ok. I really was specting a Japanese staff, not at all lol. About the food, food was ok but I was highly dissapointed to the fact that when I got to the bottom of my rice bowl there was a freaking hair, so disgusting. I calmly called the waiter (trying not to make a big fuss about it) and all I got was an oops. Not even an apology. I was even more sad and disappointed when I got the bill. Not a penny discounted for the inconvenience. I paid my bill and walked out of the place never to return again.

Great new ramen spot located in Washington Heights. The place is open for dinner every day (+lunch sat/sun). Small spot located on a quiet street. Very close to the A train station on 181st street. The place sits less than 20 people and so far it gets pretty packed by 7pm. The service is quick so they are able to turn tables in about 30 minutes. The menu is small, but has everything you want in a ramen spot. I ordered the spicy miso ramen. Has a good kick and very flavorful. I think they have pork buns, but didnt get a chance to try them (next time).

This tiny restaurant has done so much to increase my pleasure of living jus down the block. The service is friendly, attentive and attractive. The food is fresh, always delicious and the only difficulty in ordering one thing is that you cant decide which thing you want more! The owners are present, interested and serious about the quality. It is worth having an early dinner to avoid the well merited crowds. And if this sounds too positive to be believed...well..it isnt positive enough!

I love ramen! Im very open minded with whatever I eat. However, the flavor of the Miso pork ramen was kind of flat. The meat was a bit fatty and the egg tasted funky. I had a very upset stomach afterwards and after just 10 minutes of eating I went to the bathroom. Im hopeful that there are better options for me to chose from in the future. Thank you for the great customer service and theres always room for improvements!

I ate here because I absolutely love the ramen soups. The are good, tasty and the prices are about $12-$15 for each ramen soup. The service is fast and the location is tug in the streets, inside it is very small and cozy. The one time I ate there I found a metal wire in my food. They apologized and gave me the meal on the house but I was turned off and I do not believe I will return.

This place is a great addition to the neighborhood. Cozy little place. It can fill up quickly but its always in waves. The ramen bowls are very filling but you can usually squeeze in an appetizer and not feel like you are too much. Great beer and sake selection as well. They also use sturdy containers for their delivery.

The vegetarian ramen soup is bland but hearty. The tacos are yummy and super filling. I go in, eat, and leave. This place doesnt really have the "stick around as long as you wish" feel some places encourage, which can be fine for some people. It comes off as a more seriously cared for business than other local spots.

Pretty good ramen- would hit the spot if I was craving some ramen & didnt feel like dragging myself downtown. Service was very attentive & prices reasonable. Some of the seating is awkward- the waiter had to crawl past my dining partner when visiting other tables. Ill probably go back, but not all the time.
