Went to dinner to celebrate with 8 family members, service was absolutely horrible. One side of the room seemed to get water glasses refilled all the time and we never did. We ordered appetizers and took forever to come, than the drinks we ordered also took too long. Served a beer in a beer mug and asked for 2nd beer came in small appertif glass, what the heck? We waited over an hr for our dinners, also people that came in half hr later got dinners before us??? We asked and it still took forever, had ordered wine, but dinners were served and had to say where is the bottle of wine. The most offending thing about the restaurant was the smell of cigar smoke it permeated the restaurant, the waiters smelled of smoke and I felt like the food and everything smelled, it was sickening. We used to love this place but it was horrible. Unfortunately I had purchase a brunch coupon from living social and was not looking forward to it, because of the horrible service and awful smell. Now even worse, they seemed to have booked PRIVATE parties on the days I wanted to go, and now they are booked for the next month, so I have wasted the money on buying brunch tickets! I can sit in cigar bar if I want to, tells you something, the only place available to eat at is the cigar bar! They dont have any available reservation for my husband and i for the brunch coupon until after it expires. They say I can arrive early and hope to get a table outdoors. Never again!

I love love love the porter house. My husband and I stop in at least once a month. He raves about the burgers, wings a nd rib eye steak while I try to order something different each time. Im a big fan of their salmon salad and their chicken pot pie...which is gigantic. They also have some of the most decadent desserts. Im not a huge drinker but they have some really yummy cocktails, and with 20+ beers on tap it has become my husbands go to watering hole. The service is great. They really go above and beyond and their staff seemed to be really knowledgeable. You never see any of the waiters just standing around. The decor is really something else too. Typically we dine in the pub area, as my hubby likes to indulge in a cigar every now and again. On a recent visit one of the waiters told us that many of the decorations and furnishings are actually from Ireland. If you want an excellent meal, and great service for an appropriate price stop by the porter house. On Wednesdays all bottled wines are half priced, which is really amazing, it allows customers to try something that maybe they normally couldnt justify splurging on.

I am very disappointed in the management of Porter House. I came in with a Living social coupon that I had approval from the owner Kelly that I could use after due date because I was canceled on 4 times for a Brunch they were supposed to serve and never did. She had said I could use it in December for a brunch. I made a reservation and then AGAIN the brunch was cancelled. I was told to come in and they would still honor the livingsocial but when I got there they did not. The manager said she would not honor it (a short older women at front) . She was not nice and said Kelly was gone and she would not honor it. I paid for this in advanced and if they want customers so badly why do they do this to them. The food was good and now they lost a customer because they do not honor their customer commitments. My suggestion if anyone has a livingsocial coupon try and get your money back other wise you are in for a dissapointment.

After visiting the porterhouse my fiance and I were extremely disappointed. It was 1p on a Saturday afternoon and the hostess was on the phone with a friend she neglected to bring us menus as she sat us. The waitress told us we had to wait for a menu (there was 8ppl there). So much for the air purifier you couldnt breathe the smoke was so thick. I ordered a glass of house wine which was stale and cost $11, standard for a house wine is $6. When we ordered they were out of pulled pork and I ordered the cheesesteak with onions and mushrooms my fiance a cheeseburger. The cheesesteak had almost no meat, the meat that was on the sandwich was steamed, all you could taste were the mushrooms, yuck! My fiances burger was unseasoned and didnt even come with a slice of tomato. The experience for the price was horrendous we ended up spending $40 for some of the worst food in Bergen country! I will never eat there again.

We just returned from the Porterhouse and were very disappointed with the service and some of the food preparation. There was a band and recorded music, both playing loudly outside on the patio. We asked the waiter several times to turn off something since we couldnt hear each other or the waiter. I finally went inside and told them that unless it was turned down that we would leave even though we had ordered dinner already. There were three boys in our party of eight. One ordered chicken fingers that were so tough he couldnt eat them. Another ordered the adult filet mignon which was charred to toughness on the outside and very difficult to eat. There were several people smoking, at least one cigar, and too many flies. We spent $300 and didnt enjoy the evening. It was a huge dissappointment.

Hated it because of the cigarette smoke. I hadnt realized that NJ allows segregated smoking, non smoking areas. This never works. The smoke will always make its way throughout a building, the same way smoke from a fire would waft through a structure. If I were in Virginia I would have been prepared to endure a smokey restaurant, but wasnt ready for this just over the border in NJ. We were seated in non smoking, but very close to the closed door smokey bar area... just too much smoke smell. Food was ok. Decor is beautiful, but the smoke. yuck! So this will actually come as great news to smokers, but bad news to non smokers. Our waitress was pleasant and fast.

First, if you dont like the smell of cigars, dont go to a cigar bar. Kind of like going to a strip club and not wanting to see naked woman. Anyway, have gone for dinner, and for drinks several times. Love the place, wish there was one close to me "live in Maryland now". The Lamb was to die for, and the mac-and-cheese was great as well. Lots of single malt scotch on the menu, even my favorite Oban. Always had great service, but I know that can be hit or mis almost anywhere you go now days. Great place for adults that dont mind the smell of a nice high end cigar...

What happened to this once-great restaurant? No more soda bread, the menu has been changed (and not for the better), and the steak sauces are completely different. The signature sauce in particular used to look more watery, yet more flavorful. Now its creamy-looking and does not taste anything like it used to. My medium-well filet mignon came out pretty dry, too... drier than the well done steaks I used to order! I miss the old Porter House. Will never go back, possibly except to check if they brought the old stuff back.
