I tried this place recently, and I must say that I was truly impressed. I love Indian food, but it can be either hit or miss. Naan & Beyond is definitely a hit. I had a vegetable platter (comes with selection of two curries, rice, and naan), and a vegetable samosa. The curries I tried were lentil and cauliflower. The portions were generous -- possibly even too generous, given that some of the curry sloshed out of the side of the container. Both curries were excellent, but my favorite was the samosa -- perfect spice level, and just utterly scrumptious all-around. Their service is fast, so even though there was a long line (I visited during lunchtime on a weekday), it didnt take too long to get in and out of there. Seating is limited, so dont count on being able to "dine in". Regardless, I would highly recommend Naan & Beyond!

First, understand that this is essentially a restaurant that exists to serve the weekday lunch rushes in the busy K-street area. For serving that purpose, it is excellent. This area is relatively dead for evenings and weekends, so thats not really the best time to go. Keep in mind its a small, privately owned operation, too. Its a definite step up from the messy and inconsistent food truck Indian lunches, which are the only walking-distance Indian options in the area for a quick lunch. The amount of food/price ratio is good value, the line usually moves quickly, they try to mix up the variety while keeping some consistency in the menu, and the staff is friendly and hardworking. Ive rarely if ever had a bad lunch here and have frequented it since 2013.

First and foremost, best flavor Ive ever experienced in a fast-indian place. I usually have to drench my veggie curries in mint & pepper chutneys to satisfy my hot tooth in places like this. Not the case here. Although the mint chutney is off the hook and their raita is fantastic and of perfect consistency... better, in fact, than most of the formal local indian restaurants. Im primarily writing to let the vegetarians know that they heard you out and have made changes. The veggie daal today was all veggie, no sauce/soup. YUM. The chick peas were slightly soupy but I like a little liquid in my rice. I will walk the two and a half blocks to Naan & Beyond before I run across the street to the other fast indian place from now on.

I love Indian food, and really wanted to like Naan & Beyond as its so convenient and close to my office. I went for the first time about 6 months ago, and again today for lunch. I now remember why I havent been back since my first visit. I dont consider myself a food snob, but Naan & Beyond has possibly the worst curry Ive ever tasted. Their butter chicken sauce tastes like ketchup, and the vegetarian curry I tried was bland and tasteless (oddly enough the sauce tasted like tortilla chips. Old, stale tortilla chips). The pakoras and samosas are decent, so these are your best bet if youre in the area and in need of a snack. Otherwise stay clear!

Honestly, I wished there was a 3.5 star, but I will tip it over to a 4 since a 3 would underrated too much. This is one of those places that you eat if you work in the area or just passing by and need a bite; not a must visit place for tourists. Its like a Chiptole style restaurant where they wrap it up like a burrito, something I been waiting to open up myself. The Chicken Tikka Masala is about average, spice levels are low since this isnt a place suited for Indian taste, and the menu is pretty much the Indian-Pakistani fusion.

The first time or two I went, I would have given this place a 4 or 5 star, having had such good experiences and the food was delicious. Unfortunately, Ive had very inconsistent meals here - some awesome, some terrible, mostly mediocre. The potential is there for greatness, but generally it goes unfulfilled. Good for a quick fix of vindaloo or butter chicken most of the time, or fine if you are in the area for a quick lunch. Unfortunately, referring friends and colleagues is not a possibility.

Ive been here twice now, and Im still unimpressed. The cabbage in the naan sandwiches is just that--raw, shredded cabbage. It tastes slightly bitter and seems like cheap filler. The biryani is mushy from being overcooked. The samosas are okay. The mango chutney is definitely a highlight though. Overall, its fast and wont cost you much...but it wont knock your socks off either, especially if youre used to better-quality Indian food (the lunch buffet right next door comes to mind).

The good: they give you plenty of food, and a good selection of chutneys. The bad: the food is just awful! The vegetarian selection only includes the "soupy" selections (palak with no paneer, and daal). The Naan was dry and chewy, so I have no clue if it was just microwaved or not. Last but not least, they falsely advertise their desserts (and rip you off), so before you think about getting it based on the pictures on their menu in the restaurant, make sure you ask them!

Gross. Employees not practicing proper sanitation. Poor quality food. Employee was spilling meat-based food and sauces into vegetarian food. Upon bringing this to his attention, all he did was rolled his eyes and continued doing what he did. If you are vegetarian, know that your food is contaminated in this place. Its a violation on the counts of safety and for some it is a matter of their beliefs. Matter has been reported to DC Health Dept.

I worked 2 blocks away over the summer and made a point to grab lunch here at least once a week. Its not the best Indian food Ive had in DC, but its definitely got the best price to quality/quantity ratio. I usually got a full order of the chicken biryani which is only $7, tastes great and is easily enough for 2-3 meals. The hot chutney adds a nice kick if you like your food spicy and the mango is a good sweet option.

I am a regular customer and order Naan / Curry and Biriyani. Today I ordered Plain Dosa and to my surprise the Curry and chutney were spoiled. I called them to tell this but the person who took the call was very sarcastic. All I wanted to let them know that this particular dish they have to check it before selling it. I will not go to that place anymore.

Fact: This is the second best Indian restaurant in DC. The best is Indigo (243 K St NE). Keep your Rasikas. Give me some great Indian street food any day. And for the price, you actually feel like youre eating Indian street food. Their butter chicken is outstanding. They have terrific sandwiches. And their sides are mind-blowing.

If you downtown during week this is the place to go if you are craving Indian food. Dont expect a full table service at the takeout section of the restaurant but they have some of the BEST authentic and CHEAPEST, Indian food in DC. Their butter chicken is amazing and you cant go wrong with both the chicken or veggie samosas.

My first time going and I cant complain. My Tandoori chicken was very good. It wasnt dry, though it looks it, and the naan was excellent! I can only hope everyone else enjoys this place as a lunch spot...and only that. To expect a restaurant-type delivery in this place is asking a bit much. Eat and enjoy! CB
