First time costumer, I have heard so much rave about this place so for a special night out my boyfriend and I decided to try it out. We had reservations and had a nice corner booth waiting for us inside. The ambience and style of the restaurant was inviting and elegant. The wait staff looked professional but seemed rather cold. The host didn’t greet us until she was done taking care of something else. Our waiter presented himself well but was rather bland in personality. I have worked in the restaurant industry for sometime, I know that it is essential to make customers feel welcomed and special. Don’t get me wrong I don’t like chatty or annoying servers but he could have asked if this was a special occasion or if we have been here before. He treated us like another table something that you could expect at Applebee’s. But this place seemed to have class but when it came to its hospitality it seemed to lack. The menu was decent, there was a good variety of dishes to choose from, prices were a little high (but this was to be expected). It would have been nice to hear about specials or recommendations, like I said our waiter just wanted to take our order and move on. The food, presentation was not anything unique or extravagant. I ordered the Pan Roasted Salmon, it was very good presentation was ok; it was described as Honey-sesame glazed salmon served with mashed sweet potatoes, toasted almonds and truffle micro greens. Everything was good except for 25bucks I would expect homemade mashed potatoes not out of a can. Trust me I can tell the difference. My boyfriend ordered Lump Crab and Shrimp Fusilli described as Lump crab and sautéed shrimp tossed in our parma rosa crab sauce with Chiffonade basil and fusilli pasta. The dish had no color, and although the taste wasn’t bad, it looked like something that should have been offered on the kids menu as spaghetti with shrimp. Growing up with Italian cuisine, I know that when it comes to pasta creativity should be your inspiration. Colors, textures, presentation is all key to a great pasta dish. As for desert we had to try the famous gelato, and yes it was great!!!! All in all the place was nice, the staff was presentable but not very hospitable, the food was good but could be better if not it may seem over priced.

My wife and I havent been out for a New Years Eve celebration in many years. Now that our kids are older and she actually had both New Years Eve and New Years Day off we absolutely HAD to go out. We found ourselves at Caffe Gelato. We have eaten there a few times before and always enjoyed the food. All I can say is WOW! What a party they put on! We arrived and there were wine glasses filled and waiting for everyone at the door. They quickly took our coats and sat us while offering the wine. A 7 course dinner was served and every course was outstanding. The Appetizers were excellent. Truly, we would have been happy eating them all night. There were many varieties and the wait staff came by frequently. The main deserts were amazing; especially the truffles. The wait staff was very friendly and worked the tables superbly; my water glass was always kept filled, empty plates were cleared from the table, and my wine glass was filled frequently. This is exactly the type of service you like to expect from other restaurants but seldom receive. The band was great as they played a wide range of music from the 70s to present day. They kept the party hopping; when the band was playing EVERYONE was dancing! Thats the sign of good entertainment. Without a doubt, Caffee Gelato knows how to throw a party. Thank you for making our first "FIRST NIGHT" out in a long time a truly wonderful experience. Expect us next year.

My fiance and I had a completely terrible experience at Caffe Gelato. Our server was bothered by the fact that he had to wait on us. He was surly, rude, and lazy. I saw him chatting at the bar with the bartender several times during our meal, on an extremely busy Saturday night, mind you. This resulted in a stone-cold dinner being brought to my fiance, and an extremely long wait for drink refills. Our food was mediocre at best. We ordered the antipasti plate that boasted an "array of meats and cheeses" on the menu. The plate contained about 47 olives, a couple pieces of salami, several mozzarella balls, and ONE stuffed pepper cut into quarters. Some "array". More like one kind of meat and one kind of cheese. I ordered salmon, which was also cold when it arrived, and was slathered in a sauce that I can only describe as lukewarm sugar water. Towards the end of our meal, a waitress came out of the back area of the restaurant, kneeled in an empty booth, and started FIXING HER MAKEUP in a decorative wall mirror, in front of all the restaurant patrons. How unprofessional. (As an aside, why are all the servers and hosts employed at that restaurant impossibly attractive and under the age of 30? Discriminate much?) In closing, I will not go back to Caffe Gelato again, and I most definitely would not recommend it to anyone.

Met my daughter and a friend of hers for dinner. Ordered the short rib on polenta appetizer and we fought over it at the table! The meat was so flavorful and had obviously fallen off the bone. For entrée I ordered the crab & shrimp capellini in a rose sauce I think. The pasta is homemade and you could taste that (good thing) the portion was large so I asked for additional sauce (since it was made to order and still hot the paste soaked up a lot of sauce!) They were generous with the shrimp and the crab was definitely fresh (had a piece of shell. Small one) My daughter and her friend had the mussels for appetizers and while I do not eat them, the two of them seemed more than pleased with their choice. My daughter’s friend had the chicken and kept raving about the sauce and flavoring. We all had gelato I mean it is homemade and were happy with our flavors and remarked about the inclusions in the gelato. I love peanut butter and chocolate and mine had full sized peanuts in it so that added to the flavor. I’d recommend to anyone in Newark, if you’re visiting or reside. I’ve been to their brunch before and love that. They do Wine Dinners too. Nice atmosphere, not to loud. On our list to do again soon, that’s for sure!

I hired Caffe Gelato to cater for my wifes 50th birthday party which was held last Saturday. It was the best decision I could have made. When I first approached Ryan two months ago, he provided me with a proposal for the event almost immediately including the full menu and prices. The menu was fantastic and the price was very reasonable. His staff answered my email queries literally within minutes. He then made the time to meet with me to plan the event in more detail, and then again when we met at the venue with the event coordinator there to go over all the details. On the big day, the execution was just perfect. The bar, the food stand, everything was top-notch. He had a huge retinue of impeccably dressed and well-mannered staff who served with a smile. Everyone loved the food and the service. The staff knew the timeline for the 4-hour event and followed it to the letter. No wonder Ryan is in such demand for catering events. He hit a home run with my event! I recommend him very highly for his quality food, his attention to detail, and his professionalism. I was extremely pleased with the outcome, and most importantly, my wife said it was a very classy event. High praise coming from her!
