I was there with my family and it was the worst experience we ever had. The advertisement for Franks Diner states “The staff offers friendly smiles, sassy service and one piece of advice: be nice or leave!” The day we went some guy – I think Rob, shouted at my wife to Shut Up. No she did not deserve it, she was going to offer a kind suggestion and he went off on her. Now, weve been here several times before and know what to expect- this went too far beyond that. The whole place was over booked and under staffed (they had misplaced a reservation for a party of 13 and then got mad at said party), but she did not deserve to be treated that way. I see some people have posted that Franks is similar to Ed Debevics this is wrong. At Debevic’s they tell customers “Don’t expect this diner to be a “Please” and “thank you, sir” kind of place. The servers pride themselves on snarky remarks and even drop their trays to do choreographed dance numbers on the soda counters!” Do you see the difference?! It is a question of being who you say you are and then acting that way. Her feelings were hurt, our experience and meal were ruined. WE will likely never set foot in Franks Diner again.

NORMALLY, on the previous occasions Ive been here, Ive NEVER had a problem. But today (8/10/15), was the worse service. First off, 1 HOUR TICKET TIME!!! Yes, Im serious. Had no problem finding a seat at the counter and no problem getting my order in. But on this day, the 2 male cooks were INCREDIBLY SLOW and messing up orders left and right. In fact, the lady who took my order had to step in about 40 minutes into my ticket time and takeover for them 2. Secondly, the CHAOS as orders were being made wrong and contradicted left and right. Thirdly, the lady that had to step in and cook did eventually get my order done (a little burnt tasting, FYI), but was visibly angry (snapping at the owner and servers when they asked about orders, flinging cooked plates on the counter). I mean, Id be mad too if people keep messing up. But you cant show that in front of the customers. I hope the next visit to this place they will be back to their old ways

In the heart of downtown Kenosha, this place is a timeless classic. Its small, but very cozy, and VERY busy! So bring your patience with you, because there is almost always a wait, which is well worth it. Wife and I came here for my first time over the weekend. We were able to seat ourselves, which I really liked. Our order was promptly taken, and the staff make you feel right at home with their whitty sense of humor. Food came quick, and coffee was always topped off. The Garbage Plate is incredible. I would highly recommend you arrive very hungry, if not, starving. Because the serving size of this is very generous. It was cooked perfectly, and we had plenty for leftovers. I had the cinnamon french toast, which was also cooked to perfection. It was slightly crisp, and not soggy. Dusted with some sugar, and butter, it was very easy to clear my plate in 5 minutes. If you havent been here, you need to try it at least once!

Just came in with my family, trying to show them the best of Kenosha. Ive been here for over a year now, with mixed reviews from friends and locals about this place. We walk in and the food looks great! We were all really excited, and the bus boy clearing us a table was really polite. But then one of the guys behind the counter tried to give away our seat to someone else. We explained the situation, and the other customer completely understood, but then the counter guy chewed us out for not knowing where the line began, and gave us such an attitude! More so, another employee laughed with him at our apparent misstep and had the audacity to ask us where "lines start where were from". Its ridiculous that my family had to have this happen to them, and I refuse to eat here now. Go in if you want an okay meal, but I would caution at the customer service unless you want to eat somewhere the staff laughs at you.

While on a visit from Ocala, FL where we live, my sweet granddaughter Kristen, who lives in WI, had us meet her at Franks Diner for breakfast. When we first went in we were skeptical...especially while we were maneuvering up the skinny aisle to the end of the line to wait for a coveted table. Then Kristen talked us into trying The Garbage Plate for breakfast...which at the suggestion, again, got our attention! My beautiful daughter Teri & son-in-law Todd joined us to chat & visit while we ate. Surprisingly...The famous Garbage Plate was quite good and had many choices to build it to our liking. Hmmm...were impressed. Kristen did explain the folk-lore of the beginning of Franks Diner.....An old RR car got stuck in the mud while it was pulled by horses so they left it there. Waa-Laa...it became Franks Diner. I wonder if the horses ate the breakfast delight called Garbage Plate

We heard a lot of good things about this place, so we decided to check it out for a late breakfast Tuesday morning (10am). Its actually an old dining car from a train, so it was pretty cool inside. Theres not a lot of seating though. We were lucky and got seated right away. However, we noticed theres only one cook.. and it took 1 1/2 hours to get our food after placing our order! I had to go to work that afternoon and we almost had to walk out because we didnt realize how long it would take! Even though the wait was long, the waitress was friendly and kept refilling our coffee the entire time. Another downside was they only accept cash there. Once we got our food, it was okay. Prices were good. Although we probably wont go back again because it was not worth the wait.

It all depends.... If you love great food this is the place to go. If you dont want to expose the young ones to the old guy whos obnoxiously loud, rude and swears constantly, this is not the place. Given the size of the diner you would think it be decently clean, this is not he case, the place is short of being acceptable for a restaurant environment. The only saving grace was our server (tall girl) who was busting butt all over the dinner. I cant imagine how the employees managed to keep sane with such lack of restaurant systems in place. 8 out 10 times the customer had to repeat the order back at the end in order to check out since the ticket couldnt be found.

My adult children and their familiesI live in the Racine and we travel to Franks Diner frequently throughout the year. The food is delicious! The menu is unique; plus, "tantalizing to my taste buds." On Dr. Martin Luther Kings national holiday, my family travels from Chicago to celebrate Dr. Kings birthday with us here in Wisconsin. The 1st stop is Franks Diner, where we indulge in a hearty breakfast including homemade sausage/toast, fun pancakes for the children and delicious garbage plates. They often buy extra sausage patties to go. A former colleague took me to Franks for my 1st garbage plate. Thank you Jae Lindeman.
