The Hotel Galvez restaurant is very beautiful and located in a very convenient place. Many more compliments are very difficult to come to mind after my poor experience here for lunch on a Saturday. I took my mother-in-law here for her birthday to try some place new with my father-in-law and wife. What this place makes up for opulence and class, their food conversely flops. The only thing my family was happy with at our table was their cornbread muffins with butter and a spectacular jalapeno jelly. Every dish that we ordered preceding this was awful to some degree. Mind you, this is while paying $15-$25 a plate, for lunch. My wifes fish tacos were described to me as visually stunning and had a wonderful dipping sauce but completely lacking in the flavor department with its fish. My father-in-laws club sandwich was even a let down apparently. Its slabs of ham and turkey half an inch thick was described to me as "meh". My own fish and chips was devoid of flavor. I couldnt even finish one portion of the fish, it tasted boiled and had zero salt in the breading or flavor of any kind. The shoestring fries were good however. Lastly, my mother-in-law ordered the shrimp and polenta. Easily the most expensive entree on our bill. They couldnt get that right however because the colossal shrimp was overcooked and rubbery! The polenta was phenomenal though, which wasnt much of a saving grace. What this restaurant did do correct was looking pretty with an attentive wait staff. We were fighting off a disgusting amount of fruit flies the moment our entrees were placed in front of us. In summation, unless this beautiful and historic Hotel Galvez makes some changes in their restaurant, I will not be going back for another poor experience. There are just too many places on the island that do it right for me to waste my time, calories, and money here.

I would rate this a 0 star but thats not an option. We made reservations for the Sunday brunch, arrived on time, were made to wait in line for 15 minutes then asked to wait for another 15 minutes to be able to get a table. Their website recommends that you make a reservation but dont actually reserve a table for you and seat everyone immediately who walks in. For a buffet that costs $40 per person, we expected significantly better service and to at least have a table ready for us when we walked in. We will never be going again.

I hate that the maximum I can put here is 5 stars because this place is amazing in all ways. We got married here and They are great people specially Melissa and Pamela always paying attention to every detail for their guests, I had an incredible stay. Their food is awesome, try Spicy Pasta or their grilled chicken breast. I hope you have the opportunity to come, you will remember it for ever.

While in Galveston over the weekend of October 28, 2016 we decided to have brunch on Sunday at Hotel Galvez. It was awesome! From prime rib, pork lion, mashed potatoes, waffles and dessert is was delis. The prime rib was like butter in my mouth. Worth the $$. We sat and leisurely enjoyed it all and had great conversation.

We ate here twice while staying in the hotel. The brunch service was great and there were lots of options to choose from. The dinner service was incredibly slow and our server couldnt even make food recommendations. Didnt know that we were out of water or done eating for 30 minutes!

Was there for dinner tonight, service was slow food was not good. Ordered the shrimp and polenta dish. The shrimp had no flavor whatsoever and was a weird texture and the sauce it was in was way too sweet. Came home and did not feel good. The two shrimps I did eat made me throw up.
