Keep in mind that I tried my hardest to never be a customer here. This is my insight as an employee for 7 weeks. The Kitchen, the walk-in Coolers, any and all food storage units like mini fridges, or ice cream/dessert coolers are absolutely filthy. I dont mean messy. I mean mold growing, food touching contaminated surfaces, filthy. Yes, people are generally friendly, or at least withhold their snarky comments for when your back is turned. But the service is generally below average, slow, often mistaken, and of poor quality. The tables, chairs, and other dining facilities are not cleaned on a regular basis. In fact, there is often no cleaner available to clean tables. The servers and other employees are using clothes that are damp with water. And unless food falls were a broom or vacuum can reach it, it is not cleaned, ever. Staff is not properly trained in Health and Safety practices. This means that gloves are not used in the kitchen, and hands are not washed in the bathroom. This entire establishment is disgustingly filthy from ceiling to floor. Please do yourself a favor and visit a coffeeshop that serves genuine coffee roasted by professionals, in a safe, clean, and friendly environment. You dont need to look far. Just dont look here. Just an FYI, I reported this establishment to DHEC several weeks ago. Ive yet to hear back from them. OSHA on the other hand has already cited them. Hopefully that Fire Exit and other safety violations were fixed. Remember, customers can file DHEC complaints as well.

This place is always an experience. Although it has the vibe of a college coffee shop, all ages are frequently dining here. The coffee, dessert, and fries are good. It being open late is nice for college kids who are up later. However, the staff can be scatterbrained, confusing, and sometimes rude. All in all, we tend to look at it as funny and continue to go to be entertained. Prepare to be patient. 1) Once, we were seated in the back, asked to move 15 min later so the waitress could close the section. Then she proceeded to hand us the check before our food came but promise "no rush." 2) Once, our waitress asked if she could have my leftover coffee creamer to serve another customer. It was in a small pourer, and Im not exactly sure if thats sanitary. 3) Once, our waitress took 20 minutes to get around to our order. Texting while we waited. 4) The past time I was here, our waitress was very kind and quick. Said she was only working summer here before she headed back to college somewhere. It was nice and refreshing to be waited on thoroughly and quickly. This place is fun, but you have to go in knowing it wont be fast necessarily. Dont get frustrated, just take it as added "charm." I dont love that often, the red room is closed, but waitresses will seat their preferred customers back there. Seems a little rude.

When my group of four arrived, we had to wait for at least 25 minutes, standing up, in the middle of the store, on a weekday no less, to get a table. Then when we did get a table, they sat us in the back where amateur musicians were trying to play and we were surrounded by overpriced, modern, hippie-esque art. Once they finally remembered to take our order, we waited for fifteen minutes to get the pie and smoothies. I asked for some cream and sugar for my coffee...an hour later. I asked again... The problem was they seated one person with a laptop at a table meant for six and wouldnt ask them to relocate to a smaller table; however, the apple pie was very good for just under seven dollars for a slice... In my opinion, if you want a cup of coffee with lame poetry and lame pictures hanging on the wall, stare at a copy of popular mechanics and go to Starbucks. It will be more enjoyable and cheaper. Unless you like that sort of thing. If you do decide to go, take some coffee, because you will be waiting a while. Oh, and dont ask for cream and sugar. May God have mercy on your soul... On a personal note, one of my friends who was with me that night says that he would rather be slapped in the face with a trout while being mugged by midget ninjas.

lets start with the good. I cant vouch for the coffee cause I dont drink coffee. But the place has good atmosphere and good food, with decent internet connection and mostly nice people working there. Now, it all goes down hill from there. I scheduled an event there that involved 100 people, which I notified. The schedule was mis-communicated, so I was told I could have another time slot and I re-communicated to the 100 guests again. But then I was told no they changed their minds so I couldnt have that time slot either. so I had to communicate a third time to my guests. When I responded to the owner Dana in an upset manner I was told I was being difficult and she even gave me serious attitude , (instead of trying to console the customer). Its also difficult to get anything done, you have to go through about 3 different people for different things, I dont think they talk to each other, nor are they good at emailing. I finally had my catered event. The food was pretty good and was set up only 8 minutes late but, then the staff disappeared afterwards and I never saw them again the entire time I had the room, ( no one picked up the dirty dishes or asked if we needed anything). My 100 contacts and I are NOT fans of this place at all.

I had a terrible experience here. I arrived at 8:15 pm to have drinks before the comedy show next door and waited 15 minutes for a waitress to acknowledge my table. I put my order in at 8:30 and waited for my one drink for 25 minutes the show started at 9:00 so I asked our waitress to cancel the order because we needed to go. My friend stayed behind to wait for her drink and by the time she got her drink the waitress brought her drink along with the drinks me and my wife ordered and told my friend she could not cancel the order because if I wanted to cancel my order I would have needed to go up to the bartender "myself" and explain to the bartender I no longer wanted my drinks. This issue escalated to the point where the owner of this establishment harassed my friend untill she paid for the drinks her self regardless that she waited 45 minutes for her one drink and my wife and I canceled our order 20 minutes earlier. It should be noted we let the waitress know the last 2 times we waited a long time last time too.

My friend and I had a early, pre-dinner snack at Coffee Underground the other day. We were sitting in a corner, not close to any other customers, and having a very serious conversation. We were sitting on a long, cushy, bench-type seating, and I was sitting with my feet tucked under me. Our waiter approached us and said, "Im sorry, but my manager told me to tell you to put your feet on the floor." I was so surprised and embarrassed. It was the last thing I needed to hear - that the way I was sitting was somehow inappropriate for a dingy, casual, place-to-study-and-relax coffee shop. I was confused and offended that the manager found it that crucial to his business to tell me to sit a certain way. I wasnt flashing the coffee shop, I was wearing shorts. I would like to know how this manager would react to a homeless man resting on his precious bench...probably tell them they are dirtying up the upholstery.
