I have been a fan of this establishment for years. Ive hosted several birthday dinners, business meetings, and Sunday afternoon brunches here. Whenever someone would come in town, I would always suggest Hutch & Harris. This is the reason why I made the suggestion when a friend came in town in mid January. We went on a Saturday night and of course it was busy. From the initial greeting at the door, the service was cold. However, because I patronize this business so frequently, I stayed. After ordering our food, the manager/owner (not sure who she was) came to our table and said that we needed to leave her restaurant. I genuinely thought she was joking. She said that she would not allow us to talk to her customers like that. I asked her what in the world was she talking about because I was clueless. She said that a customer told her that we were saying derogatory things to her as she ate. Keep in mind wed only been there all f 15 minutes and wed only talked to one another. The first of her many mistakes that night was not asking us about the situation, but automatically assuming that wed done something. The next mistake was she made the statement that she didnt do it because we were black because her grandfather is black. (I hadnt brought race up, she opened the door). And finally to add salt to an open womb, she offered us a free appetizer for her horrible and unprofessional behavior. To her surprise, I did not act in a disruptive manner. I said what I had to say and immediately left the restaurant. Beyond this racially motivated experience, the most disheartening part of it all is that I had a 19 year old mentee with me. When we got to the car she burst out in tears. She said that shed never experienced racism in that manner and it made her feel like nothing. No one she ever feel like that. The same way I sent many to this establishment in the past is the same way Ive shared this story many times to assure that the people I love and care about will not spend their money here!

The wait staff was excellent, however, if the kitchen makes numerious substitions that dont match the menu descriptions, who is at fault? The rinder-rolladen dish may have used a German recipie but it was a failure. Intstead of top round pounded thin, the meat was either a skirt steak or flank steak. That meant the the meat was tough. More than half was not edible. Instead of slow simmered dumplings, the potatoe gnocci was substituted. Not only not was advertised but undercooked. With more than half the meal still on the plate, youd think that the manager would have more to say than were making changes to the menu. He could and should have offered to discount the meal or add a dessert. The waiter did tell me that the rib-eye had been replaced in the dish that I ordered so I was forewarned. However, it is not the same thing to add a brown gravy with mushrooms and onion when described as sauted mushrooms and onion. The waiter did take it back to the kitchen to remove the gravy. I appreciated that. The meat was placed on top of the mashed potatos that made it difficult to cut. We were so surprised by the music. Old country just didnt match the vibe. It did evoke memories of my father. That was a good thing. Again, wait staff 5 and food 1.

Stopped here on whim for dinner after reading positive reviews online. Before jumping into the negative, I do want to call out that the service was fabulous. Our waiter was prompt, polite, and attentive without hovering. One of the best service experiences weve had in a long time. We were so excited about the menu. It was hard to decide what to order because EVERYTHING looked amazing. Ive never seen a more imaginitive menu. We ordered two appetizers - the crab dip and the BBQ tofu. The crab dip was not exciting, and was served with tortilla chips, which added nothing. The tofu was the best thing we ordered, and was only OK. Was excited about the Moravian chicken pie, given the location, but was dissapointed. It was both dry and bland. The sides were also boring. Also ordered mussels which were watery and flavorless. Overall, a major disappointment since the menu has a ton of potential and the service was incredible. Unfortunately, would not recommend.

I cannot tell you how pumped I was as a former Marylander to eat here! We made reservations for 90 minutes before the start time of a show across the street that we had tickets for. Our food took 75 minutes to come out. The wait staff was apologetic, but we watched people who had arrived after us get their food and finish before ours came out!!! We ended up having our food served in take out boxes because we had to go. Im sure the crab cakes were amazing, but I didnt get to enjoy my $25 meal because I had to inhale it running out the door. Our party was so disappointed and while we did appreciate the apologies and discount applied, we probably wont be back. We noticed several other guests getting their food in take out boxes because of the extremely long delay as well. I hope the management figures out the issue so others can enjoy their rare, kid free night out like we hoped to.

Im a self proclaimed foodie. When I go to a place that prides itself on uniqueness, I want to be wowed. Ive only been to H&H once. I was not wowed. I had the Soft Taco Tuesday on a Monday. The "Latin" pork, as described, is no more Latin than my husbands German Grandmother. The tacos were dripping grease from the sauce and the flour tortillas just sat in it on the plate. Ive had better barbecued pork from a frozen bowl at my local grocer. The "Carolina slaw" on top was far from Carolina style. The only taste was the bite of pepper. The H&H fries are mere potato wedges, but, they were crunchy on the outside and soft inside. The service was good and I did like the atmosphere of the dining room. I would try it again but I wont get my hopes up.

On a warm day it is the best corner in downtown to sit outside to people watch. The inside atmosphere feels more refined than other offerings in the area which may appeal to some but may cause others to turn away. To appeal to more people they have opened the H&H Sidebar. It offers a more laid back surrounding with all the same food selection. The food is mixed cuisine. Everyone can find something they like. Few people I have been with have disliked what they ordered. The staff has always been friendly. However, the service can take a little longer than you might expect.

Staff pulled a chair out from under my friend. Terrible staff! Absolutely rude and unprofessional. I set down a beer for a friend of mine and it happened to foam up, I was yelled at for "beer checking". Following this a friend of mine went to sit down to chat up a friend where a staff member pulled a chair out from under him and told him to leave. Absolutely disgusting service. Would never recommend to anyone. Bouncers also tried to instigate a fight with a less than professional customer that night. Management needs to reconsider their staff.
