The Avenue Pub aka The A-Pub is Rochesters local neighborhood gay bar. Now I do not go out much to the bars, but The Avenue Pub is my go-to spot for friends, entertainment, food, and drinks! Finding the Avenue Pub along Monroe Ave. can be difficult, but just look for the rainbow flag flying outside the parking lot next to Brueggers Bagels. When you walk into the A-Pub you are familiar with the environment being right out of a Cheers episode. Inside there are pool tables, full bar, and an awesome outdoor patio with heated lamps. The heated lamps, and char pits outside work well on those chilly winter nights, believe me I practically hug one every time. The food at A-Pub is top notch for any bar as it can include NY Strip Steaks, and Shrimp Primavera with THREE additional sides to choose from- BONUS. Happy Hours are also a BONUS at A-Pub as drinks can be ridiculously cheap, not to mention top bartender Debra Kline can whip out a strong cocktail for you anytime. They will also give out chips for drinking next time which helps when you see someone you dont like, and want to make bee-line for the exit door. The only downside I can say is you need to have a 10.00 dollar minimum to use your card which is annoying because who the heck likes to carry cash on them nowadays. Deb is also great at providing snacks at the bar, along with different themed nights like Game Night. The people that patronize this gay bar are some of the coolest gay friends I have come to know in the Rochester area. There isnt a time when I walk in there, and do not know someone sitting next to me. Now this can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on the person, but hell, Rochester is really a "small gay city". Another drawback is its a relatively small bar, so if you want to pick up someone you like, youre dealing with very little big fishes in a massive pool of small hungry fish. Also if youre looking to be a guest star for the night, this bar has ample amounts of couples in open relationships that like to frequent this location for its intimate atmosphere. Although there are always going to be the times where you strike out mainly because of this: You like Guy, Guy Just Wants Sex=No Good or Guy Just Wants Sex= A One Night Stand that you will never see again. So yeah, the possibilities to whammy out here can be high, but you might as well make the best of it. I know personally that my dates never worked out from A-Pub long-term BUT the opportunity to present itself was there much better than on social apps such as Adam4Adam. Overall: Deb the Bartending Queen, Great Snacks, Pride in Food, AWESEOME Out-Door HEATED Patio, and a TOP NOTCH HAPPY HOUR...Of Course I Will Be Back.

My boyfriend and I just moved to Rochester and one of the first days we are here we pass by Avenue Pub, so we decided to check it out because we were looking for a chill gay-friendly place to drink and socialize. Needless to say, this place is not it! The bar itself seemed pretty nice: pool table, darts, covered outdoor smoking area, but the service was AWFUL! The bartender literally told us "Either buy something or get out. This isnt a hang out stop." We were both put off by this but decided to suck it up and buy a couple beers (which was flat). The bartender then said "Im only being strict cause I dont know you." Personally that is the worst way to build new clientele. We wont be returning.

They really need to fire Miss Deborah, What a horrible unpleasant and unfriendly "c u next tuesday". She is the main reason I will not go in there. Very rude and nasty and looks at new comers like they are a bag of dog poop instead of being welcoming! All the reviews are quiet accurate. The crowd ranges from friendly to pompous to generally weird and people who make you feel ick. The bathrooms are gross and havent been remodeled in 30 yrs with a 30 yr old stench of piss. Save your money guys and go to The Forum. For the gals, go to 140 Alex.

In reply to DWIGHT WASCOMS review .... I found it quite ironic that a customer who is in the bar SEVERAL times a week, would write such negativity. Luckily we have GREAT loyal customers that LOVE coming to the bar. We have been in business for 40 years, so that alone speaks volumes.... So, Dwight, if you truly feel that service is terrible and bartenders are old... well by all means you can "save your party budget by going elsewhere".... Thank you - Tanya.

This bar has been the best bar ever to me. In addition they are having their 40th anniversary this weekend. If you have not seen the avenue pub and you live in Rochester and are gay, lesbian, trans, cross dresser, or friend, you need to visit this iconic bar. Been in business this long.. They must be doing something right!

I was in this bar in its hey day when they had a dance floor and a DJ. Back then it was excellent, now its a dive, that was 30 years ago. As for Miss Deborah,I remember her from another bar called Bobbys, she was fired because her attitude sucked.

This is a very cute gay bar that caters to a more mature crowd. When I visited, people were friendly, the bar tender was great, and the atmosphere was comfortable and safe.
