We have lived in O.C. for 7 years. Coming from Fort Lee, NJ, we have had our share of great sushi there and in NYC. For whatever reason we never came to Magoya during our first 6 years. We have been to Plum House, Gasho, all you can eat place in Vails Gate, and Yukhi in Washingtonville. Besides Yukhi, the other places are mediocre at best. We ate at Magoya for the first time last year and have never eaten other sushi in O.C. since. I agree with the other reviewers that Magoyas prices are a little on the high side, Ill say 15% more than the restaurants listed above. If Im going to spend $80 for my wife, myself, and two children to eat mediocre sushi, Ill gladly spend $100 to eat INCREDIBLE sushi. The quality of the fish here is always the best. The specialty rolls are incredible and creatively prepared. The waitresses are always friendly and attentive. I miss Yukhi but Washingtonville is too far to drive. If you are a fan of sushi (or Udon Noodle soup, or even popular Korean dishes), you owe it to yourself to try this and make your own decision. I feel bad for the person that had the hair in their food (below) and certainly the way they handled that situation is horrendous. I still cant stop going to this place!

I gotta say, they make some damn good sushi here. The rolls Ive had were well put together, decently sized, and very fresh. With few legitimately good sushi options nearby, the quality and selection of sushi this place offers makes it a must try for sushi lovers, and maybe even those who are open to trying it. In addition, the bimbambap is very much on point. Served in a traditional hot stone pot, its just like youd find in Korea Town in NYC.

The sushi is very overpriced. The same thing I get at this place I can get at YouYou for half the price and the staff and quantity is worth the drive to Middletown. I brought two rolls tonight and paid over 20 bucks! Same thing I get at YouYou and pay 11 (which includes a tip...). Staff is always trying to rush me out even though I get takeout. I rarely use Magoya and try to avoid when I can.

Ripoff - Charged $4 extra for "purple" rice + $2 to upgrade from California roll to spicy tuna roll on a $14.95 lunch special, although ala carte price for roll was only $1 more. Tried questioning it but was given the run-around. Food, service and ambiance was decent but left with a bad taste in my mouth that I was ripped off.

Tasty, consistently prepared food. Not overpriced for quantity/quality but out here you pay more than you will in a city. I like the Korean twist on sushi/sashimi. Hwe Dup Bap is awesome time and time again! My only complaint is that drinking is expensive; for $6-7 you get a very small glass of mediocre wine.

Not delicious, but pricy. I paid for sashim bibimbap for $20 + tax which was not worth for small amount of sashimi. A waitress was not friendly. Green tea initially served was blend and lukewarm. Nice interior though. If you are going to have a date, it might be a good place to go.

A beautiful building inside and out. The food reflects the appearance, its really good. I enjoy the food here and find the proportions very nice. I have been to other places where the rolls were sloppy and undersize. I wouldnt hesitate recommending the restaurant.

The most expensive sushi place in the area. I paid $8 for Philadelphia roll (six tiny, poorly made rolls). And they were not that good tasting. Waiters standing across from us and staring. I hated the whole experience!!!

My favorite sushi restaurant. Excellent selections of food and drink. Spicy salad is incredible. Sake variety is proper. Price is on point. Atmosphere is just right. Staff is attentive and accommodating. Love it.

Very good sushi and Japanese cuisine. There are lots of Korean dishes on the menu on well. The bibimbap is excellent and recommended. Service is friendly and fast. Food presentation is very good.

Very nice, quaint place. Went there for my birthday. We dont live here but found it in a search and we lucked out. Good food. Good atmosphere. Pretty, tranquil place. Good service.

Staff are nasty, rude and at 530 pm want to rush you out the door. Prices higher than NYC, but the food is good. If you dont mind being abused then yu should go here.

Its a very expensive restaurant. Decorations are very unique and delicate. But, the waiteress gave us wrong order when there were practically no customers.

I always have an awesome time at Magoya. The fish is always fresh and on point. I suggest trying the Mango Roll and the Rainbow Roll, my two favorites.
