This is a friend of mind studying at Xavier University, and I am posting this because what happened to her is ridiculous. And Coffee Calls owes her an apology. Ymine McClanahan So Im sitting in Coffee Call, my regular place for studying and eating beignets -___- (Im here almost 24/7!!) and am asked by a staff member to move for a group of white customers after they complained because I should go sit with the other studying students in the back. Although I have paid to sit and eat where I please, they cannot sit where they want (because I got here 2hrs before them) so I should move. I give them a direct no because my money is not invisible, I have people on their way and I am a regular here and should be treated with just as much respect if I am alone or by myself. Needless to say the white guy became ignorant and before I could get back to my table he and his group had removed all of my chairs except for 2!!! I had a flash to the Civil Rights Movement. Some white people still think they own the world. Our fight is not over, not that I ever thought it was anyway but as black people we have to get educated, get informed, take action, and get moving. We are letting business and media think they can enslave us and some actually are. You can bet on it that Coffee Call will not get another dime of my money and I hope they dont get any of yours!!!!!

The model of what a doughnut shop ought to be in Baton Rouge, full of character and open late. The only doughnuts are beignets (New Orleans French, similar to sopapillas) which are eaten covered with shaken powdered sugar--glaze, syrup or honey is not available. I favor as many fresh-fried finger fritters as my companion and I are likely to eat at a sitting, plus a mug thats half hot cocoa and half café au lait, though hot chocolate, Cafe au lait, coffee, various sorts of teas, milk, and soft drinks are all available. One refill of coffee or chocolate is allowed. I just paid about $12 for a large plate of finger doughnuts and two mugs. Be sure to consume the doughnuts before they cool and you wont mind the delicious grease. I understand the Coffee Call also serves Prix Fixe plate lunches and sandwiches in the middle of the work day, plus an occasional buffet. While I have not had either, they are said to well prepared, tasty and relatively inexpensive. Certainly, they do have a following. Tourists might find the Coffee Call convenient since its two blocks from the major I-10 interchange in Baton Rouge, and theres a huge free parking lot. Be sweet and tip generously for good service--the wait staff has always done well by me.

I was in town with my son for a youth conference in 2015, but sadly he didnt get to experience the loveliness of this place. Im from California and had never heard of a beignet. I went with a group of ladies from my church to get a little girl time and oh my, the beignets were out of this world! Warm, fresh and full of powered sugar! The coffee and hot chocolate were the bomb! The people who worked there were so friendly. This thanksgiving my whole family with be attending a Camp Meeting in Baton Rouge and I cant wait to visit Coffee Call again to share the experience with my whole family!

Ive been going to Coffee Call since I was a kid, back in its original location. It is a tradition in Baton Rouge that warms my heart. They only close for 4 hours a day and when it is not closed you will see patrons inside and out eating beignets and drinking coffee. I moved back home partly because I missed the social culture of South Louisiana and Coffee Call definitely makes it worth it. Thanks for always being here and thanks for not changing even when giant corporations stepped on you.

One of the places you need to go to when you are in BR. I cannot taste the difference between the beignets offered here and the ones offered at Cafe Du Monde; These are plusses in my book as I it isnt as crowded (hence no long waiting times) and the prices are more reasonable. And did I mention that in addition to the regular beignets paired with Cafe Au Laits, they also offer beignet fingers?! For a plate of beignets/beignet fingers and a cup of coffee, it totals around 5 dollars.

My first visit to this restaurant. I was told that this was the place for beignets, and that we had to try it. Boy were they right, on a Saturday morning this place was rocking. there were plenty of regulars, and plenty of new people like us. They moved very quickly the beignets were made fresh to order. The coffee and coffee au lait were great. They put plenty of powdered sugar, and had shakers on the table if you needed it. Fun place with a fast moving crew.

I love Coffee Call. Being originally from New Orleans, CC is the next best thing. I dont know who posted about a bad location, College Dr close to I-10 is an excellent area of town. Close to LSU! And the coffees and Hot Chocolates are wonderful, not to mention the Beignets. Never tried lunch, so cant comment on that. We go at night kind of late when everything else is closed. Cant say enough about the place, youve just got to try it yourself.

This cafeteria-style coffee house was our place of choice for late-night drinks and beignets. The cafe au lait was rich and delicious, with free refills. Four people shared a huge plate of beignet fingers for four dollars. I call that a real value!! I loved the fingers, because they were a little crunchy, in contrast to regular beignets, which are softer. We PILED on the powdered sugar!!

Warning: The café au lait is addictive. I buy it by the GALLON! And if you like beignets, there are none better. I prefer their Glorious Morning muffin, if they arent sold out! Best-kept secret, though: Only on M-F, they serve delicious soup, salad and poboys from 11 - 2. I love the French dip poboy! I still meet locals who dont know there is a drive-thru around the side!

Good, family-friendly, spot for beignets and café au lait. Try mixing the café au lait with the hot chocolate. Most nights they are open until at least midnight and sometimes 2 am. Most weekends they stay open all night. There isnt much else on the menu and there are only about 8 electrical outlets in the whole joint.

The best thing about this place is that its every bit as good as Cafe du Monde in New Orleans for beignets and coffee or cafe au lait, but its way cleaner, staff is very nice and courteous, and they have a menu with some excellent po-boys and soups. Save yourself a trip to New Orleans and just stop in here.
