I used to really like schoolyard, but that was a few years ago. I hadnt been in since 2013 and decided it was time to get back in, expecting the nice neighborhood bar I remembered. Our group sat in the back of two rooms, and at 1:15ish AM the bar started to close down the room we were in. I didnt particularly like way that was handled, we felt booted without warning, so I tired to explain to the manager that it wasnt appreciated. Unfortunately I got a lot of sass in response, so with few options left, we closed the tab w/o tipping, since it was understood among us that we were unsatisfied with our experience. (We each had 2 beers, its not like we had bottle service and stiffed her) The waitress then came back and asked for a tip, something i had never seen or heard of before, to which i tried to explain that there arent many options for expressing displeasure in a restaurant, and unfortunately the first time I tried i didnt get through. My advice was to seek recourse from her manager. We left, and were across School street going north on Southport and the manager then comes out and asks for a tip. CMON dude, youre the same guy who didnt have time for me earlier, now Im getting chased down the street. I gave him the same story she got, got a sarcastic thumbs up, and no (verbal) response because he went back inside before I finished. Used to be a fun bar, probably still has trivia, suffers from poor managerial skills and customer relations. 1 star because our waitress was good, and beer is adequately priced.

I only have one visit here to base my judgement off of, but this place was pretty cool. Went here on a Saturday that the Cubs were playing in the World Series from Wrigley. Of course this place was busy, but it was still tolerable, and by the time I got there, there was actually some table space for my friends and myself to chill at. It was a fun, festive environment, and great for the Cubs. They lit sparklers all at the bar (how fun!). Despite being so busy, I was able to get drinks quickly- Im sure the bartenders must have been exhausted from pounding out drinks all night, but my bartender didnt show it and was really cool.

Bar specials love me and I love them! Wednesdays- $5 food menu! Thats right, your burger that normally costs $12 is now more than half off! :) Mondays $1 cheeseburger (and yes, I did buy two and make it a double!). Food is OK for bar food, service is quick too! A little farther from the Wrigleyville crowd, which Im not complaining about, but expect to hear some ruckus on the weekends.

Great local bar and also a fun, more relaxed Friday/Saturday night place. Good beer selection, very friendly staff, and they have really terrible/awesome/drunk/embarrassing karaoke on Thursday sometimes (I think it was Thursday). Decent bar food, good place to watch a game, better place to hangout during the summer months as they have a nice outdoor area, close to the L (Southport).

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. The food was delicious and the drink specials were outstanding. Always ask what the specials are here, as they always have some great deals!! I saw they have construction going on now, but I cant wait to go back. Food was good, a chill sports-bar type atmosphere. Friendly wait staff, I will be back!!

I have been saved by Schoolyard. There was a day after I lost my phone, I went to Schoolyard because I had nowhere else to go...the staff took me in as one of their own. It was a fabulous day with amazing people. Go to Schoolyard when you want to watch a game, play some trivia, get iced...who know! Its always a good time.

I love Four Cornes Tavern Group, but Schoolyard is a weird one. I dont like going in the weekends because of the crowd that it attracts, but it is perfect to sit on the sidewalk for brunch. The grilled cheese sandwich was amazing, the staff was really friendly and we spend a good two and half hours hanging out.

Awesome neighborhood bar. The staff are great and serve you with smiles on their faces. The atmosphere is cool and it gets crowded on weekends but i love to go on wednesdays for their $5 food specials. I love to go on dates here and also go with my friends to chill and meet local people.

I visited Schoolyard for the first time yesterday evening. This place has a great beer selection, great food at even greater prices, and a comfortable atmosphere. I highly recommend this place, especially on a beautiful evening to sit at their outside dining tables. :)

Great food, love the deals they have on different nights - Wed was $5 all food on the menu - cant beat that! Atmosphere gets a little loud due to the city league teams they sponsor, and at times service is a bit on the slow side, but overall I recommend this place.

Very good food, our waitress was awesome as well. Very good deals on thursday nights at least, prob on other nights too. Gets packed and tough to get a table. Music is a little too loud and a little lame but definitely worth putting up with.

Great service! We had a large group on a week night. I expected to have to wait at the bar for a drink but we had waitress. Yes, 1 waitress that was always asking if we needed more beer or food before we ran out.

First Illini bar Ive found in the city and its great. Many tvs, never crowded, good food. Trivia is Tuesdays at 8 and it is very fun. 4 stars because it is Illinois/Marquette and not just Illinois.

Great neighborhood bar, best for the outdoor patio space (dog-friendly! and they will even bring you a bowl of water for your pooch) and seasoned tater tots. Lots of room inside too.

Great beer selection and music was. I ordered a turkey burger and the hummus and guac plate. Both were pretty bad. The atmosphere made up for the bad food.
