We were in Chicago for the weekend to see a concert, and I offered to take my daughter and her boyfriend to dinner. We wanted to stay near our hotel but werent familiar with the restaurants in the area, so my daughter picked one that looked good from Google maps. It turned out to be a great choice! First impressions from the appearance and atmosphere were positive right off the bat. It was unique and cool looking, like wood and iron, with a big collection of bare tree branches covered in fairy lights in the center of the room. It was a bit early, so it wasnt too busy yet, but we got seated on the second floor, which had a nice view of the street below. Our server explained that the dishes were usually ordered family style, with everyone sharing. Everything on the menu sounded good, so the server made some suggestions, and I dont think we could have chosen better. From the first bite of the meatball appetizer, we were all in heaven. If our hotel had had a refrigerator, I would have taken the leftover marinara sauce home, even though there were no meatballs left. The sauce was so good even by itself! The wedge salad was excellent too. My stomach gets mad at me when I do anything the least bit spicy nowadays, but the gnocchi was worth it anyway. Everyone from the hostess to the buser was attentive, polite and efficient, so the whole thing was a perfect experience for us. Well definitely eat there again next time were back in Chicago.

A decent brunch, although we had some small issues with the service. The Bloody Marys were one of the best Ive had in Chicago, and there were plenty of TVs around showing the football games on the Sunday we went. Wait time was only about 15 minutes after our reservation time despite our large party (12 people), as there are two floors and a lot of tables. The food was good, but maybe not great. I had the short rib hash, which was recommended by our server. The portion was large, but the ribs were slightly overcooked and the potatoes were soggier than I would have liked. Note that dishes are brought from the kitchen as they are ready, so dont feel awkward beginning your meal while others at your table are still waiting on their food. This was well-communicated by our server, which is really appreciated. Unfortunately, after all the food came out, the server let us know that my wifes main (eggs benedict) was cooked but the "chef didnt like how it came out" and was thusly remaking it. It didnt seem rushed, and her dish only arrived as others mains were already being cleared away, well more than an hour after our order was first placed. While I usually understand that mistakes happen, I was very disappointed to find that the server/manager did not comp the dish nor any drinks. I will probably give Bar Siena another try and will be sure to leave an updated review when I do.

If you go there for dinner, please disregard my review. If you go there for their known desserts. Well, first your are not that welcome there. Even at late hours, tables will be only for dining patrons (one hopes that policy is fairly applied). There is an instantaneous sense of unwelcomeness. Bartenders are not observing and do not care about other patrons jumping in front of waiting guests to snag seats. Mind you I was waiting for those seats politely for 20 minutes. I have been at this place a few times for lunch and late night dessert. Unfortunately, the unwelcomeness for dessert visits has been there before and today it provided the low of our night. Luckily, there is no need to be treated like that or stand in line for an hour with 50 teenagers. There is plenty of great places that will be happy to serve patrons with desserts. I wont be back anytime soon and most certainly not recommend the place to anyone anymore.

This place is a great spot for a diversity of things. It is that rare mix of club and sports bar (I know, sounds impossible). The bartenders are fast, the service is attentive and the decor is unmatched. A italian light tree grows from the center and reaches up to the second floor which has ample seating in addition to a second more secluded bar. There is a gelato and coffee bar in the back that does both equally amazing. The food is decent. I had a Neapolitan style pizza from their remarkable, cant be missed high temperature oven. It was good, but not great. The food is what brought it down by a star, but everything else in the place is great. Definitely check it out if you are bouncing around the West Loop.

As the bartender put it, we seem to be the unofficial wait place for Au Cheval. But with a wide open bar and seating area, it does that job very well. The beer selection was great, the food coming out looked good though it is on the pricey side. We ordered the potato skins since we had a 2 hr wait and were pretty hungry. They were an interesting take on the dish, more like thick potato chips fried then dipped in a flavorful aoli and topped with some shaved cheese. Very enjoyable. One of the bartenders was being fairly rude to a new bar back (who was very friendly and helpful to us), then proceeded to mess up a 2 beer order somehow, so that was a bit of a turnoff. Everyone else seemed pretty friendly.

It was hard but Fabio Viviani outdid Siena Tavern with this place. Bar Siena is really nice but still casual. The dishes are thoughtful takes on classics. The meatballs are must have starter anytime you go here. The flavors are unlike any other meatball you will ever have. I also really enjoy the Neapolitan style pizzas especially with the spicy pepperoni. I like meat and the Short Rib Lasagna is extremely tender and juicy. The mixed drinks are really good here and I wish I could have them all. Bar Siena is great for dates or groups. Its fancy food without all the surrounding stuffiness.

The brunch here was SO AMAZING and it was one of the few places in the hood we didnt have to wait for a table. However - only four stars because the service was honestly super awkward. There were a million bus boys around hovering for the quickest moment you put your fork down to whisk things away. Felt like we were being spied on the whole time. And the overall discourse with weight staff, hostesses etc. was just generally super awkward. Maybe Id sit at the bar when I go back to avoid? Avocado toast was garlic-y and amazing but the Croque Madame was the absolute highlight of brunch.

I came in last Wednesday with a small group of friends. The place was packed and it looked impossible to find a seat for dinner. I did a little walk around to try and find an space. Just as I was about to leave one of the managers came up to me. I told him that I really wanted to have dinner here but it seemed impossible. Within a minute he cleared off a bar area for myself and two friends to sit at. We ended up having a fantastic meal. Thank you Alexios for accommodating us.

You would think that if you told the guy who handles the pick ups that you WERE WAITING FOR A F**KING PICKUP that you wouldnt be sitting there like a DUMB@$$ until TWENTY FOUR MINUTES after it was supposed to be done you ask "is that for [my name]?" he wouldnt say "oh, youre [my name]? Ill be right with you" AND THEN MAKE ME WAIT 10 MORE F**KING MINUTES WHILE I WATCHED HIM POUR DRINKS! F**king food was cold. If you want a pick up, for gods sake, AVOID!!!!
