The Abbey of Deland, FL is one of those gems. In a state like Florida where breweries do not come by the dozens, having a great importer is what its all about. Todd, the owner, and his nephew Rip, the faithful bartender have this place under control. It was opened a few years ago, and has won the beautification award. The recently renovated front room has opened up the bar to the street, and in the early spring and late fall to winter provides wonderful outdoor seating. I started going here as soon as I was 21, and have continued to go there for the past 2 and a half years. The rest of the staff is phenomenal, the food is great and fresh, and the meat and cheese platter ALWAYS fills me up. The crowd is mixed, some young and some old, but nobody feels out of place. The music and ambiance is a at a quiet roar, not too loud, nor too quiet... so you can share an intimate conversation. Ive forgotten to mention the beers... the staff is able to pin down a beer or wine to your liking, you just have to give a few criteria... which could be as simple as: "Something light and not bitter please..." and its a sure bet youll enjoy whatever is picked out for you. I could go on and on... but you get the point =)

If you want to try craft beers, this is the place to go. The staff was intimately knowledgeable and helpful. We went with wine, but could overhear the staff discussing options and were impressed. The environment was peaceful and warm. This was during winter break, so I imagine a weekend when the college students are in town would be much busier. We had an appetizer plate with pita, humus, olives, cheeses and dates. All delicious! Highly recommended.

Will never go back to this place again! The most pushy bartender I have ever had to deal with. Chased my wife around the bar with a wine bottle and had an attitude with her when she said she didnt want a 3rd glass. Asked her what beer she would recommend and of course sold me the most expensive beer in the bar - $9 for 12 ounces of garbage. Watch out for the large female bartender. She will rip you off!

Ive been coming here for years! The owner and staff are amazing! They will chat with you, and make you feel like family. Live music on the weekends. Staff is very knowledgeable on the beers, meads, and wines. Great pub food as well. They are the original stuff! Other businesses copy them because they know what the customers love :) Pet friendly as well.

I used to work here. Havent been in a while, but its certainly still the best place in downtown deland to find some of the rarer beers out there. Expensive, but the beer is worth it for how hard to come by some of it is. I hear they make mead now, which is neat.

They didnt have the beer I asked for. But they poured the beer I got in a glass of the brewery I originally asked for. Worst, they submerged the bottle in the beer as the poured it. Mega amateur.
