Its no different from the A&W Location in most parts of the Country, which is Unkool because its in Lodi, California the town that is the starting place for Roy Allens Rootbeer stand in 1919. They DONT seem to care about being the best location, just the most modern money driven one. If you call them, they wont answer but put you on voice mail so they can supposedly "call you back". I was really hoping they would be PACKED like IN-N-OUT to NOT answer my phone calls after three times, but they werent. Ive worked at a MUCH BETTER AND BUSIER Diner where we didnt get the phone ring without answering it, EVEN during a RUSH or HOLIDAY CROWD when we were understaffed! So theres no EXUSES for them from me. They employees seem to all be dragging there Butts around unhappy which makes there costumer service poor because they arent exited to be in the town where A&W started from give anyone mediocre service as they go through the motions to get your order and on to the next person. I learned from the Manager as well that this location as I seen on Google maps WAS, let me say that again WAS an A&W Drive-in hop restaurant. BUT the now current owner changed the hops into a solar panel Drive thru and car port. Now heres the thing out the Drive thru, if you look at the pictures I have up. You will see that its not like other "fast food" Drive thrus, you go around the solar panels port to a menu board and speaker like usual, BUT once you place your order, you pull off closer to the building where you WAIT in your CAR for them to do a carry out FOR YOU to your car as they COME from the BACK door. Sound a lot similar to a DRIVE-IN Resturant to me EXCEPT you drive off once you get you food, BUT WAIT you can do they SAME after you order from a CAR HOP at the DRIVE-IN! they reason some so hacked is because its HARD TO FIND stand ALONE A&W joints, then Put on top of that an original A&W DRIVE-IN! Why cant they have kept the spots where cars park NOW as Drive-in hops? Then you have the best of both worlds and DONT throw away American tradition?? Or Just have it where you take down two Drive-in hop spots so there can be a Drive-Thru? Either way, its the ONLY A&W in Lodi because Roy Allens Rootbeer stand is GONE so it leaves this joint to uphold the standard for what you see in A&W. The reason they Took away a DRIVE-IN is because "times are changing and they need to keep up with the days now of business and get more money" so forget that its HARD to find an A&W in a building BY ITS SELF now-a-days, FORGET thats Drive-in Resturant are an AMERICAN TRADITION, Forget that A&W business is doing good because they have MANY other locations but COULDNT KEEP THIS ONE TRADITIONAL because they WANT MORE MONEY. A&W SHOULD have keep this a Drive-in Resturant with a new Drive thru, and they SHOULD have SAVED Roy Allens Rootbeer stand on Pine St. I would only say that this location is good for looking at how GREAT A&W once WAS but NO LONGER IS. I didnt want any food here because for some reason A&W is notorious for putting hair in my food almost every time I order it. But for my cousin EVERYTIME at any location for some NASTY REASON for him.

This A&W is an original one, it has the now unused station stalls in the rear parking lot, when many many years ago, people could drive up and order their meals and a car hop would bring it to you! This is a service I well remember as a kid. When I went there July 11, 2017, I had my 91 yr old mother in law with me, post appointment and it was 100*F out. The place was PACKED!! Did not see any hired people over age 30. It was disorganized and tables were sticky from previous customers. Both front counters needed wiping. I ordered 2 root beer floats. One young girl poured root beer continuously, not making eye contact, did not see a hint of a smile, and courtesy on the 3 workers I personally had spoken to were busy, probably understaffed. I understand that if 10 people give orders for meals with their root beers, that the root beers would be poured along WITH the meals. (I was a waitress b4 I was an RN)- but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if someone orders 2 drinks ONLY, it would be nice to not have to wait over 30 minutes!!! The staff needs training in being organized, and maybe courtesy lessons.....I WILL go back, but not at 4pm with a diabetic 91 yr old. Sorry A&W....

A&W drive-ins used to be one of the mainstays of the American road trip, out West. Before every automobile came equipped with air-conditioning, and you were stuck in the back seat of a late 50s model Detroit vehicle, A&W was a godsend. You would see the billboard announcing only 5 more miles to A&W and your suffering in the Summer heat was partially relieved. After the stop, you were in heaven, savoring an ice cold root beer float, or a strawberry freeze, milkshake or malt. This is the A&W with all those famous drinks and a display of historic A&W memorabilia. This place should be on everyones Bucket List, if you never experienced A&W on the open road. As far as the food goes, stick to the basics; burger, fries, etc.

A little high priced now. Not worth the price. I can go to another place and get better food at a lot better price. The taste of the food has sure changed. I miss the old food and they took out the car hop and put in a dumb drive thru that they have to walk outside to your car anyways. I dont like it.

Im always surprised with how great the service is here. They hire teenagers like any other fast food place, but theyre off a higher caliber here. Plus, this isnt just a regular A&W, its an original location with root beer brewed on site. The flavor is great. Much less carbonated than canned root beer.

A Lodi favorite! The "first" as I grow up knowing, A&W location - not sure if thats accepted fact or not... either way - best root beer in town! Lovely and friendly staff too. Management cares about quality and food temperature and talk to their locals a lot.

I loved the bacon cheese burger I had today. Where else can you eat a burger that really looks like the advertisement photo; dill pickles, tomatoes, onions, it was wonderful!!! The root beer was ice cold and taste great. Great fries too.

A&W is always great, especially if you love soft serve and root beer. This one is extra charming with all the history and the cruise nights. Fantastic service, good food, fun stuff always on the TVs. Easily our favorite fast food atmosphere.
