My friends and family went to Black Bear Diner on June 14 to celebrate my daughters 10th birthday. There were 10 of us, and we were having breakfast. The server was amazing, it was a great experience. UNTIL- my daughter received 2 cards for her birthday, one had $60 in it, one had $25 dollars in it. She left them on the table on accident and we left. Not more than 10 minutes later, she realized that she had left them, and we called the restaurant. The Manager told me that they found the cards, but unfortunately, there was no money in it. I emphasized that we had looked everywhere, the money was left in the cards on the table. She told me that she trusted her staff, that they would never take anything that wasnt theirs. I even went there in person, and my 10 year old pleaded with them, to no avail. She is inconsolable. Its sad that people are dishonest, and it has ruined one of our favorite breakfast places. 10/6/12- UPDATE: Marlen, the Manager of Black Bear Diner had offered to have my family back to the Black Bear Diner for a free meal to make up for the missing money at my daughter birthday, which I though was very gracious. I called her today to set up the meal for this evening, and she told me: "Sorry, thats no longer an option. You went out of your way to hurt us by posting that Yelp review". And she hung up on me! Seriously, hung up on me! So beware people, not only do they employ thieves, they are rude, and unable to weather a factual assessment of their establishment. Shame on you Black Bear! Shame on you Marlen for being so rude, TWICE!

Im new to this area and though this was a family friendly place, guess not. WOW!! This place! Dont sit by the kitchen. Foul mouthed children work there and the waitresses working there 5:20pm are just the same. Bad news, its all earshot from the manager and she wont do anything. The little kids are banging plates to make so called music or to literally annoy co-workers. Im pretty sure one of them was a kitchen supervisor, she seemed to no age either. Waitresses saying they f*in love something over and over is pretty annoying. Especially rude when kids are at the table a few feet away. Think not knowing English protects you? Nope! Spanish vocabulary is pretty ripe also. Cook just says Me vale v*ga about is is very positive (being very sarcastic) And again the manager doesnt seem to mind either. It wasnt even busy and they have dirty tables everywhere. Last time I come here. I can hear the problems they have with other tables never getting food and are asking manager for discount approvals. Waitress complaining she was in the back and keeps complaining to cooks that she f*ing hates it. Cook again with his Me vale v*ga The other waitress saying its f*ing crazy, shes gonna leave. Time for me to go.. kids working here and not my style. Oh yeah can someone please find Amanda. Some waitress doesnt f*ing know where she is, just tell her anything so she can shut up already.

The food was great but 8t was busy and I only got a seat because I was by myself and there was space at the bar. Otherwise there was a good group of people waiting for tables. However, I and several others at the bar waited for quite a while to be served. I never got a menu even but used the one from the guy next to me who said hed been waiting a while. In fact, he didnt even have coffee or water when I sat down and wasnt served for at least 10 minutes. 3 of us shared the menu and ordered at the same time. Frustrating. If youre going to have bar seating, someone needs to be dedicated to waiting on the customers seated there. They shouldnt be waiting that long just for coffee/water and a menu! Im only giving 4 stars because of the quality of the food.

Great fast service. We frequently eat here bc our kids love breakfast 4 dinner. He sz portions even on the kids menu. Depending on waiter or waitress they can be slow at coming back to refill drinks, etc. Most the time all food comes out together & hot & everyones happy. Music is playing from jukebox that u can also add money into to play your song. They hand balloons to the kids & its hit or miss if after dinner they come around w a kids ice cream candy, fruit n sauce plate for their ice cream theyre suppose to get. Great pies, cobblers & BearClaws! Its constantly rotated so no worries there.

For the $8.99 price tag, I was less than pleased with my meal. For $9, I should not leave hungry, but I did. I got the bacon cheeseburger. While it was a decent burger, it needed to be a bigger portion. Where this restaurant really falls behind is in the service. The bathroom did not have paper towels in stock, it took a long time to receive my food, and the server forgot to give us silverware, and he also messed up one of the orders. While I know mistakes are only human, I was still not too satisfied with my experience (for the $ of the food).

I had the Taco salad they always last me for 2 meals they are guilt free, large and delicious, the service is always fast friendly. Except for this time because I and another regular gentleman customer sitting at the bar in front of the kitchen were subjected to the Cook frustrating racial slurs referring to his coworker as a wet back, I couldnt get it out of my mind the entire meal, It had been a long day so I didnt feel like discussing with the manager, clueless bigotry can ruin a good meal for every one.

My wife and I visited your restaurant yesterday afternoon, March 19th, 2016. The waitress was very friendly and helpfull. However the fried chicken was over cooked and dry. The vegetables and mashed potatoes were warm and cooled of quickly. We have eaten at this restaurant and many other in the chain and have never had this experience before, and yes we will return. This was quite a disappointment as we traveled from Watsonville. Thank you!

VERY BUSY!! Service was prompt even when crowded. Server checked on us frequently, which is a plus!! My husband and I split the Asian Oriental chicken salad. Requested 2 different salad dressings on the side, waiter had salad split and served on separate plates! Good presentation. Thought it odd that we were not offered bread or crackers with our salad. Im on a low carb diet, so would have passed on the carbs. Still 5 star.

Not to good ...me and my family went today on a Sunday. No silverware..had to ask bus boy. Waitress got order wrong,then when food came eggs were cold ,even my wifes country potatos were also cold..believe it or not Dennys food has never been surved cold ..i will never eat breakfast at black bear dinner ever again..your good will be Luke warm or cold..take heed to what Im saying ..

The wait time was 45 minutes to an hour! Our waitress got our orders wrong and neglected to refill our drinks. We had to ask a manager for our items and refills. Next thing we know the waitress is dropping the check as said " Im going on break". Thats it! No this is so and so theyll be taking care of your table. Nothing! Worst black bear diner ever!
