The idea of the Growler is that it is a place to enjoy a diverse list of beers with food as an accompaniment - it is not fine dining, but rather the sort of comfort food that you would think of as being alongside beer (sausages, fish and chips, burger, etc). Sure the food is a dressed up a little classier than usual, but you arent getting much health food here. So, for what that is, the menu is fine and the beer selection is good. What isnt so fine is the spottiness of the service. Sometimes OK, sometimes meh, and on a recent occasion really not good at all. The major issue is the management of when food arrives - do appetizers come out on their own, at the same time, or much later than entrees? Do all the plates for people at the same table come out more or less at the same time, or could there be a huge gap? The recent incident involved serving an iced beer to a customer instead of the ordered iced tea. Now mistakes can happen - but what was unacceptable was the lack of concern about what could have been a really disastrous error. In fact the customer was made to feel that they were not believed that it happened at all (I know it did, I checked). In a case like this, one would expect that the staff would want to overcompensate since that little slip could have serious consequences for children (who were present) or for an AA member (who wasnt). But the word "sorry" never appeared, nor did the manager, nor did anything else. I know this is one incident, but it fits a more general pattern of a lack of care in how customers are treated. So come for the beer choice, maybe think about some food to accompany it, but dont come expecting good service.

Good local pub. The menu contained all of the standard pub items. I wound up having a salad and one of the beers they have on tap and enjoyed them both. They seem to rotate taps regularly, so you never know exactly what they will have. In addition, I was told to just ignore the bottled beer list that was on the menu because all of that had changed since they printed the menus. Instead, I was invited to review their current stock in the refrigerator and let them know if I wanted anything. They have a very small patio out front on the street and then an open dining room inside. I was born back in the 1960s and the building has been there as long as I can remember. When I was growing-up, it was an Italian restaurant. This is a nice change.

I stopped in for an early dinner and had the daily soup special (French onion, was just ok - onions could have been a bit more carmelized) and the Ploughmans Lunch Board which was pretty amazing. I wish I hadnt been alone because then I could have sampled way more tasty things. Id definitely come back

A slightly hidden gem in San Ramon/Danville. Their cuisine is a mixture of mostly German and British, but has some Mediterranean mixed in there as well. Their beer list is one of the better ones Ive seen in the area and their dining area is very casual. Great for small groups and conversation.

This place was quite disappointing! First off couldnt even have a conversation with my husband because it was way too loud. Food took way longer than we expected. Sausage was disgusting....... tasted old!!! Will not be returning to this establishment.

It was a great environment, i had a business meeting and we ate aftwrwards for lunch. I had the bratwurst with sweet potatoe fries. The sausage is made in house fresh and totally worth the price tag. I will return for more.

If you are a beer fan, then this is a good place. Was in for late lunch and had the growler dog. Its a good sausage, but 13 bucks seems excessive. Apparently the menu has been expanded. Service was good.

We love trying the craft beers on tap. Each time we visit the Growler is a new beer experience. We love the spent grain pretzel bites.

Nice, comfy place with unusual menu items. I had a very unusual eggs benedict (corn cakes and mole sauce and very very spicy. )
