My partner and I have been patrons of this New York Deli for the past 3 years, we have gone there numerous times and have always been greeted by the staff there in a friendly manner. Having relocated here from New York, for me, this was a friendly atmosphere that reflected the New York way of life, everyone is equal and welcome. However, this past Saturday night we were not greeted friendly at all and the bar staff was horrible, particularly the younger person who was too full of himself to even bother to service the bar unless the conversation included how young and adorable he possibly looked. We were totally ignored by both male bar tenders, although we finally got a drink from one of them, neither bothered to take our food order and subsequently we paid and left and ate elsewhere (there are tons of other establishments to eat in Carytown). I have to tell you that we were totally insulted by how we were treated, and for the first time in my life, I left no tip. Having been a bartender, waiter, bus boy and worked waiting on tables for more than 15 years, this was an even more insult to me. unfortunately we will no longer go to New York Deli (at least not the one in Carytown). and just a note to the one Bar Tender guy who thinks his looks are superior than any others, its not that great because the next nicer looking guy that enters the bar will be way more gorgeous than you can hope to be!

I have been here for dinner on a couple of occasions. The last time I was there, I got a grilled tuna steak sandwich with fries and a beer. My girlfriend got the cod sandwich. My tuna steak was trimmed down to about half the size of a normal tuna steak, tasted very average, and cost about $11. The waitress asked my girlfriend if she wanted cheese on her cod, and she said yes. The cheese ended up costing an extra $1.50. Extras including jalapeno peppers, onions, and other toppings cost extra for all sandwiches when they are included almost everywhere else. Sandwiches also run around $9-10 for what amounts to a small amount of food. Really this restaurant is about 2-3 stars because the food wasnt bad, just average and overpriced, but nobody should be giving this place 5 stars as in the other reviews here. The service was average; it was busy and we had to wait quite a long time for our food and drinks but the waitress was nice. There are much better and cheaper options for food in Carytown.

Im giving New York Deli a "one star" because I cant give them a "zero". I was recently given a gift card, and called to confirm that I could order "take out". When I went on line to get the menu they didnt have anything up except that their site was under construction. When I called to see if there was any other way to get a menu, I was told that I would have to know what I wanted, otherwise, they couldnt help me. I later called their only listed number for over an hour on a Tuesday starting about 6 PM (about a dozen calls) to try and place some type of order only to be greeted by their fax signal. I finally gave up. If you are thinking about giving someone a gift card to this place, I would defitely think twice. If you thinking about checking out their menu before you go there, youre out of luck. These folks are their own worst enemy.

Boyfriend and I each ordered a burger and fries. I ordered mine medium, with certain toppings and specified that I didnt want anything else, I specifically said that I didnt want any sauces. He ordered his medium rare and asked for fresh jalapeños and no salt on his fries. Food came out, my burger was medium well if Im being generous, with mayo and onions. His was definitely well done, picked jaleprños, salted fries. I just got a new bun with no mayo but they redid his entirely, which took about 25 minutes. When his finally came out it was medium well with no jalapeños at all. We didnt want to wait around any longer, so we just paid and left. It also got incredibly noisy while we were there - it was a Friday night, but it was so loud that we couldnt hear each other at ALL across the table. This place is not getting my business again.

My husband and I went during lunch time on a weekend and it wasnt very busy, which was nice. Ive heard its more lively at night. It was our first time going here. They have some craft beers on tap as well as a full bar. The vibe is very nice in the white place with some feel good music playing. Its neat inside and stays true to the New York theme and the era it was originally built. The service was great. Our server was very friendly and accommodating. I had the chicken and waffles! It was delicious with a spicy kick. The waffle was cheddar and jalapeño with a siracha honey drizzle as well as a fried egg on top. Not healthy, but very comforting and worth it! My husband loved his sandwich and the beer batter fries are delicious. The prices are so great as well. For two people, our meal was less than $30 for some great food. Its a win-win!

Truly a diverse menu with a focus on a huge variety of deli sandwiches. They also have salads, soups, vege options, Entrees at dinner and they brought back that famous breakfast 7 days a week! Awesome and cheap happy hour and a lively late night too! Friendly staff definately lets you know that you are in a nieborhood driven spot. This place is really unique as it is a deli concept with full table service, nothing else like it in the fan. (Or anywhere....Jerrys famous or carnegies maybe) I look forward to a long, delicous relationship! Finally a sandwich shop for foodies!

BEST FRENCH FRIES IN RICHMOND, and this is coming from a Richmond native. Also, one of the few places in Richmond that you can get a French Dip at. They have a lot of really great options for cold and hot sandwiches. They serve craft beer, but the list doesnt change that often. They have a pretty popular trivia night but in the late hours, some weird folks can come in. Have pretty much always been pleased with the food and the service. I often bring people here who arent from Richmond, so thats saying something!

This place has many faces. Great Breakfast, Super Great Lunch and starting to become a great bar scene at night. You really have a lot of choices to go by on the menu and if you get there before noon you can go breakfast or lunch. This place has a great beer selection too so make sure you save some room for a few pints. The soups are pretty hit and miss and the wine selection is only average but the atmosphere and the great staff help to make this place a usualy for me for lunch or a quick dinner.

Went here for $5 RVA Burger Week. Sandwiches were just okay, very soggy. Ordered the burger of the week, but as a waiter, who doesnt ask if you want to order a side with your sandwich? When I asked to speak with a manager, low and behold, our waiter was the manager on duty. He definitely should have known better. His response was, he just assumed we didnt want a side since we were ordering the special. Definitely not worth a second visit!!
