Andaz is one of those places that I walked by countless times and never went inside. Not going to lie, it took me about a year to finally venture there! For $10.95 they have a buffet which is a bang for your buck. The inside is cozy and well arranged. Its classier than what I would expect of a buffet. The staff encourages you to put down your stuff and get right ahead to eating! They restaurant clearly labels each dish and are happy to tell you what is in it. --For all you vegetarians out there! I sampled a bit of everything. -Samosa salad: interesting take of the bold spices in a samosa (curry) in a cold form. No shell, but all the important stuff was there. Interestingly and well done, -Chicken Tikka Masala: creamy, spicy, smooth flavors. All around delicious. -Tandoori Chicken: has that great charred taste and fall off the bone meat. -Yellow Daal: Yellow lentils cooked down with cumin. -Gulab Jamun: interesting looking balls of dough "dumplings" fried and soaked in syrup. They also give you a nice basket of warm Naan. What could be better?

Absolute best Indian in the neighborhood if not the city. Comfortable environment without being NYC "cozy." In other words, youre not cramped and your table is more than 6 inches from the loud boor next to you; a nice respite in the UES. Service is generally excellent, with a relaxed, non-pushy team approach. My girlfriend never liked Indian food because it was "too spicy." I finally explained that this is an often-held misconception; spices dont have to burn your tongue and Indian usually doesnt, outside a nice curry, which they actually made hot enough for me to enjoy (I eat habaneros straight and drink the juice from the jar, seriously). She ate there with me twice, getting Chicken Tikka Masala and, within a week of our second visit, asked if I wanted to go again because she had a craving. The food is that good, give this place a try.

Andaz was a disappointment. Perhaps it is unfair to rate them based on their lunch buffet, but thats why I chose to dine there in the first place. Service is gracious and attentive and the space is small yet nicely set. The food, however, is pretty blah. Chicken tikka masala is tough (though no more so than in most curries; I dont understand why tender meat is so difficult to achieve) and curries are blah — for all the reviews boasting spice and authentic flavors there are none to be found on the buffet. Lamb was conspicuously absent from the buffet and would have been a welcome dish. Saag paneer was perhaps the tastiest item; both daal makhani and yellow daal were tasty but just short of great. Naan was nice and soft and chai tea was scalded and bitter. Average and blah on the whole.

I used to live right above this storefront and, while I have since moved, it is still the Indian restaurant I compare all else to. I really love Indian cuisine and eat it regularly, so it takes a lot to remain at the top of my list. While there, it quickly became my go-to place to take out of town guests and everyone always loved it. I think my parents miss it as almost as much as I do and they only ate there twice. The decore is pleasant and the service is excellent. They also get to know you fairly quickly and remember faces well, which is a nice change from much of NYC. If you are looking for Indian in the UES, you found the right place. EDIT: I almost forgot their excellent lunch buffet. Many of their best dishes are available all you can eat for a very reasonable price.

Andaz is like a hidden gem in the Upper East Side. Awesome Indian food - have been there a few times and always walked out satisfied. Their chicken chettinad is truly awesome and the Mixed platter (tandooori) is simply too good. Even the vegetarian dishes: the daal and the paneer korma are outstanding. Have tried the food at various Indian restaurants and Andaz definitely stands out. The ambience and the staff are very welcoming. Great service over all. Even though its a little far for me, but its worth coming all the way to UES for Andaz.

From the menu it looks like your typical corner curry joint, but dont let that fool you. The dishes are tasty and delicious, some of the best indian Ive had. Went there with the kids and they were welcome. If you ask for butter chicken and want it mild, be sure to specify it, as they made it way too spicy for the kids. They nicely offered to replace it though.

It was my first time eating Indian food when I order from this place. I was really impressed with the flavors of the food. I got a chicken lunch box for 10.99$. it came with rice, 2 sides and the bread. chicken masala was really good with the right amount of kick of spicy and the bread was fresh like from the oven. Definitely coming back!

One of my favorite Indian places. The food is very authentic and light. Its not overly spicy and made to order. The staff is very attentive and care about your dining experience. The decor is simple and the portions are good. The food is always fresh. For nyc the prices are very reasonable. I recommend this place.

Their chicken tikka masala is bad, too watery and flavorless. I think their only good dishes are the specials, which are significantly more pricey than the rest. Service is awful -- annoying with the water to the point of causing accidents, and indifferent to requests. I gave the several chances but I give up.

Restaurant is well kept and staff is professional and courteous. However, I have had my share of Indian food and although the food was fresh, (and not heavy) it did lack in depth of flavor. I had the saag paneer and tikka masala, and walked away unimpressed.

If you like human black hair in your water, then this is the place. I used to eat here regularly, but the service and quality have declined dramatically in recent months. I suspect there was a change of owners since I do not see anyone I recognize.

Its a great place to go if you want to have the best Indian food in NYC. Andaz is small place but cozy. Service is always good. I wish they could open another in downtown also as I moved there, but I still come back whenever I crave Indian food.

Really great, authentic Indian food with a semi-upscale vibe. It was empty on a Tuesday night. I felt that the food was delicious but overpriced. Didnt like you had to pay 4$ for the rice that usually comes with meal. Other than that delicious!

I love this place. The naan is here is absolutely the best Ive ever tasted. At lunch time they have a all you can eat buffet or you can order from the regular menu. Food is delicious and always fresh.
