Updating this review as Ive spent more time here. Ive fixed the lukewarm beverage situation by asking the staff to preheat my mugs, which has helped immensely. I do wonder however if their modbar machines do run a little cool. The decor is still poorly planned, but the staff seem happier. Original: TWO STAR:I visit this location frequently. My biggest complaint is that they consistently fail to produce hot drinks (especially of the espresso variety). On multiple occasions Ive received warm or lukewarm beverages, even after I specifically requested it extra hot. The decor is poorly planned and uninspired. They have recently fixed their three legged tables so that they dont tip (by adding hilarious horns to the legs). There are lots of uncomfortable picnic style benches, and even their Dollop mural is hidden behind a concrete post, two fridges, and a bunch of haphazardly organized boxes. They know they have a captured audience and it shows.

While the coffee is good and the sandwiches delicious, the cost and service leaves this location with much to be desired. The chain-of-communication from the order to the barista, in particular, is fundamentally broken: I have had four occasions in a row in which my order was botched or miscommunicated from between the register to production. UChicago coffee lovers are better off with the more crowded and comparably-priced Plein-Air cafe, if they are looking for coffee and lunch, or, during the school year, the incomparable service and coffee excellence of Grounds of Being (which is really the only "real" coffee shop in the neighborhood).

Good vibes and great coffee (their Kyoto cold-brew kicks harder than anything). Yet, the location (all locations?) desperately needs to ditch the current tables and chairs. I thought that the run-of-the-mill chairs found in the Chicagos cafes were uncomfortable, but these hand-made specialties bring discomfort to new heights.

My favorite things about Dollop are its coffee and how much sunlight it gets. Other than that, Ive tried the food (breakfast items in particular) and I dont like most of it. The croissants are good but theyre too expensive for the taste. Also the ambiance feels very cold and bare to me, I wish they went for a cozier look.

Great Coffee - wonderful study space - music is well curated but WAY too loud. If the baristas cant hear it while working, they should put the speakers in their workspace...

Nice cup of cappuccino - delicious egg biscuit (farm fresh ingredients in Hyde Park!) - perfect for a quiet Sunday morning.
