Riviera Mexican Grill, Shocked, Saddened, Disgusted… Returned to my old favorite restaurant, Riviera Mexican Grill, tonight and waited for what I hoped and expected to be a wonderful meal. I anticipated a long wait to be seated at an ever-popular spot that I have dearly missed for the past two and one half years since I moved away. Yes, it took nearly an hour to get our table, but the staff made sure plenty of chips and salsa were on hand to ease the wait, along with nice live music. However, I ordered a double margarita, which was primarily icky-sweet sour mix used to fill a tall glass. My daughter brought it back to the bar to have it remixed for me and it was strained into a small glass, some more ice tossed in, and another splash of tequila. Yuck. Shame on you Riviera Mexican Grill. We finally got our table, ordered dinner promptly, and waited, and waited and waited. I requested another drink, a single this time and it was not very tasty at all. May I interject that tables of parties of four or more were seated much, much sooner than us. Shame on you Riviera Mexican Grill. Anyways, when we received our dinners, my seven-month pregnant daughter quickly ate her taco because she was very, very hungry. I tried my spinach and cheese enchiladas and discovered they were cold. Not warm, not somewhat warm, they were COLD! No one ever came to see how our dinner was for at least another fifteen minutes. The server returned and asked how it was and it told her exactly how it was, and that I was ready to go. I expected to pay for my one-third consumed crappy margarita, and my daughter’s, not very well prepared, but okay and kind-of cold, SMALL taco. Instead I received a full bill for $23 ninety whatever cent bill and some ridiculous song and dance from the manager. He went on and on about it is busy tonight, and everything is always perfect and blah, bull crap, blah… Moreover, he told me next time it will be so good. Forgot about it! Riviera Mexican Grill sucks. Shame on you Riviera Mexican Grill you are a discredit to the other fine establishments in the South Bay.

4.5 Stars, actually... Stopped in for a Saturday late lunch... We were quickly seated in the patio on a perfect beach afternoon. As anticipated, the food was tasty with abundant portions prepared exactly as requested; the chips & salsa were free flowing... the salsa was freshly made with chopped cilantro, tomatillos & red onion; the guacamole was also freshly prepared with pieces of chopped jalapeño, red onion & cilantro. -- As an alternative, I ordered mole instead of ranchera sauce on my veggie burrito. I was not disappointed. The mole was a perfect complement to the guacamole and the healthy sized burritos grilled veggies & black beans. Excellent choice. My dates carne asada tacos were large & looked terrific. The meat looked moist, pulled apart & grill fresh. She said it was excellent. -- Our waiter was friendly, completely responsive & accommodating. Great job. -- The only exception to a perfect experience was my dates fresh peach margarita... It was poorly blended & lacked flavor. (This was contrary to prior experiences.) -- Overall, this meal was an excellent experience. Festive decor, tasty food, friendly staff and a fair value $$$ for what we got. We will definitely go again. (Tip: Late afternoon avoids the dinner rush.)

I must admit my expectations were a bit high and hopeful after all the positive reviews on fish tacos. We were visiting from out of state and this was my one chance. The food was ok, not great. I ordered the fresh fish tacos w the charra beans and their "slaw," which cost $16.99 I believe. The fish was fresh but overall not much seasoning or flavor. I make better at home all the time by simply using lime and cilantro in the cabbage w a sriracha crema! Beans were good. Slaw was large chunks of cabbage, carrot, pepper and jicama which were fresh - but again, not much flavor, very lightly dressed. Their salsa is good, chips too. Cant complain about the margarita either, heh. Service was very attentive and food did come pretty quickly but it was close to closing. Overall though, cant say Id go back.

This place is great - best Mexican restaurant. First - if it is crowded and you have to wait for a table as we did (7 of us) you can grab a drink from the bar and sit in their outdoor waiting area where you are served chips and salsa, which are great. Second - staff is great and friendly. Third - Food was good, Works Burrito is the bomb! and the food came out quick. Fourth - the price is not bad (1.5lb works burrito is $11.xx - not bad at all for way more food than I can handle). Fifth - Very laid back - perfect for after a day on the beach / our group had bathing suits and cover-ups on. Sixth - they split the check whatever way we wanted and we kind and quick about it. We will be back regularly.

I tried the lobster enchiladas and camarones rellenos, both very good. Service was good, but near the end, felt rushed out. We had a reservation and part of the agreement was we had to leave by a certain time, but we still had 20 minutes left. One of our unfinished dishes were cleaned up even though I told them were still working on it twice, but it could have been a different server that came and swooped it up when I wasnt looking. After they were notified about it, they remade a smaller portion of the original order to replace it. This place gets pretty busy, but has a good amount of free parking and metered parking on the streets if needed.

This restaurant has some great food. I go there whenever Im feeling like some Mexican food, as the food has consistently been above average for a decent price. I recommend sitting on the patio if the weather permits. Theres a southwest chicken wrap that they serve for lunch that is phenomenal, and the grilled chicken soft tacos are the best out of any restaurant Ive been to. The Good: Delicious food with lots of options The Bad: Can be busy, and service can be slow. Also, its a tight space when it gets crowded. The Bottom Line: Youll get great food at a good price, but dont expect fancy accommodations.

Good food. Taco choices. Fast bar. Two item combo is 14.00 One item combo is 9 ish Kinda pricey but you get a big taco. choice of rice choice of beans and tortilla chrispy or soft. Side of guac and chips and salsa if your lucky. Id come comeback. Crowd wise - Locals seniors. For a busy weekday. Service is good fast and friendly as well as helpful with your questions if any.

Service was prompt and competent. Indoor occupancy was near capacity on a Thursday evening. Noise level was about double my comfort zone. My wife complained to me that her house margarita had a bitter aftertaste. We shared the "Works" burrito for the first time...not to our liking. After maybe 30 visits in the last 9 years this was the least satisfying.

Great, low-key restaurant with delicious food than never fails to please. We usually eat 2 baskets of chips and 2 bowls of salsa, which is unusual for us but its sooo good. Potato tacos are excellent, Papaya and grilled chicken salad is great and we sometimes split the veggie fajitas which are great as well. Oh, and the margaritas are pretty good too.
