Okay, this was my first time to Cafe Zupas since I moved to AZ last year. First, the servers did not understand the order. I ordered a salad, my husband ordered a sandwich. This was not a combination soup/sandwich order. I wanted a full salad for myself, so this was 2 separate orders. The salad was very good and he said the turkey, bacon, avocado grilled sandwich was fine. The chocolate covered strawberries were very good. Drinks were satisfactory. Here is the problem. It was 4:30, close to dinner time. The table tops were dirty and there was food on the chairs. The area were you put your tray and dirty dishes was stacked 5 and 6 trays high and the garbage container was full. There were dirty cups, dishes everywhere and this is right where you serve yourself to drinks and condiments. Underneath the stacked dirty trays where the bins with dirty dishes that looked like they were left over from the lunch crowd. Was the dishwasher broken? Or was someone not doing their job to keep that area clean and neat, too lazy to take the dirty trays and dishes back to the kitchen? On top of this, there were dirty dishes and trays on the outdoor tables and food on the sidewalk area. There were all kinds of birds on the tables trying to get to the food left there. Dont get me wrong, I like birds, but they are dirty creatures and dont belong in the outdoor dining area of a restaurant. They would not be there if this area was cleaned up. My sole reason for trying this cafe is because I am hostessing a luncheon for about 12 people in a couple of weeks. I am sorry to say I wont be having my luncheon at Cafe Zupas. It would serve you well to keep this place a little cleaner and neater, because first impressions are lasting impressions.

Not very impressed at all. The premise is good, but the food is very average. Went there around noon-ish with hubby and Mom. We each ordered a sandwich. Nothing special at all about the sandwiches. My panini was very small. Their sandwiches came on rolls. The cold cuts were thick but tasted like you got them at the grocery deli section. Nothing special. I was contemplating soup and tasted their mushroom soup and lobster bisque. Both were watery and tasteless. The lobster bisque had a little spice kick to it which I didnt care for so I passed on the soup. The place was VERY noisy and we couldnt hear the people behind the counter. Also, the menus have very tiny print so if youre elderly or have vision problems good luck. The only nice thing was that each sandwich came with a little chocolate dipped strawberry, which was a nice touch. We were actually all still hungry after lunch so we ordered a piece of chocolate mousse cake which looked delicious. Mom & I split it and were big chocolate fanatics. This cake had absolutely no taste to it whatsoever. None. Not sweet, not anything. Just simply no taste. We both agreed on that. I dont think well be back. Its a great premise but the food is average to below average in taste.

I wish I could give this place 5 stars, because the food is absolutely AMAZING! So kudos to the original chef. But I have to take stars away for poor customer service. First: I understand hiring young people. We all gotta start somewhere! But PLEASE be mature at your job. Im not saying to not have fun-- by all means, laugh, smile, make jokes with your coworkers. What Im annoyed at is the FLIRTING! Young love can put stars in your eyes, but when it blinds you to MESS UP MY ORDER, dont! Just dont! Not only did they mess up my order (which I called ahead on, because I was in a hurry, and now running late because of the mess up) but the gentleman in front of me was also annoyed for MULTIPLE errors in his order. Call a manager and correct this! Refund us, or throw in a desert or drink for waiting patiently while the cashier and line girl make googly eyes at each other. Second: this is for the OWNER! Id love to come on my lunch break, however, my time is limited. Accept call-ahead orders! Starbucks does it, Chipotle does it, YOU can do it too! You definitely lose my business for lunch. Im really disappointed in this because I used to brag to my coworkers how good this place is, but now Im not, because whats the point?

Things I like: Good options of healthy food Usually quick service Delicious red pepper lobster bisque Things I dont like: -Ordered the lobster bisque and I kid you not I had ONE chunk of lobster. Dont let the million chunks of tomato and whatever other veggies fool you haha. Not good for the price and considering the name is "lobster bisque" -When you order a large salad because the regular salad is small and youre more hungry that day you find out that "large" pretty much just means an extra scoop of toppings and no extra lettuce and also I didnt even get the extra scoop of toppings so pretty much just paid way more for the same salad. -If youre pescatarian like me and you want a salad without chicken or beef you HAVE to have a salad with berries cuz apparently thats all vegetarians like on their salads. Haha okay there is a choice to build your own salad but it would be nice to have an option of like a "garden chop salad" to easily pick from on the menu without chicken instead of their current choice of berry salad, nuts and berry salad, mango berry salad, beets and berries salad BERRIES BERRIES BERRIES. Like come on just because I dont want meat doesnt mean I just like berries!!

They threw away my food when I wasnt done eating it and didnt even have the courtesy to offer me another meal or a refund! I have been to Zupas often and enjoy it, but I was just shocked at my experience today. I was eating lunch and got up to refill my drink. I left half of my sandwhich, about half of the soup, most of the roll, and the entire strawberry on my plate. No one else was at the soda fountain so it took less than 30 seconds, or so, to refill my drink. When I returned to my table all of my food was gone and there was was an employee wiping it down with a rag. Im glad they wipe tables down, but they really need to let people finish eating before they throw it away. The employee apologized and said he was so sorry but didnt offer to replace my food. Neither did he offer a refund. Nothing was done but an apology for through in away 60% of my uneaten meal. I appreciate the apology but that doesnt put delicious food in my belly. I left. I guess I wont be going back either after that.

Oh my goodness! Tried this place on a whim and Im so glad I did! Everything my friends and family have tried there is delicious to the max! My favourite is their Tomato Basil soup and Pork Carnita Panini. Nothing better! Although their Chicken Enchilada soup is excellent too. (And my Mom and sister are addicted to their Wisconsin Mushroom soup and Turkey Avocado Panini.) Been there multiple times since discovering it and have never been disappointed. Even the drinks are gourmet and you can make them special to your liking by mixing in an Italian soda syrup or two...or more. Whatever suits your taste. I just wish they sold bigger to-go containers of their soups and the price could be a bit lower, or they could put out a coupon or rewards program to earn free food. But as far as taste goes, you cant do better than Zupas!
