Food is barely edible. Beware of food poisoning. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE SERVICE. My first experience with SubsConscious was on a Sunday. I went in with my mother to get salads and found they were out of romaine lettuce and several of the mix in salad items. Their excuse was, "we are slow on weekends so we dont bother with fresh salads." Well, now it is going to be even slower because I will never be back on a weekend. Even though my mother and I were the only customers at the time we felt rushed, and I remember being really offended at how rude they were to my mother. It is one thing if you want to be rude to me, but my mother is a wonderful person and it makes me want to cry thinking about how curt they were with her. To make matters worse, Mom called me the next day to tell me she was up all night with food poisoning... no doubt from the three day old ham and blue cheese they used in the salad. The following week I called to complain but found there was no manager on duty. Stupidly I decided to give them another chance. I ordered a chicken cutlet sandwich for delivery. The girl on the phone asked if I wanted lettuce and tomato. I said no, even though I was thinking "if I wanted lettuce and tomato I would say it" but none the less I said no. Forty minutes after I placed my order I got an incoherent call from what I assumed was a delivery boy who did not have my correct address. When the sandwich finally arrived I found it had lettuce and tomato on it. I was starving at this point so I tried to eat it anyway but the chicken cutlets were so thin and tough that i only managed to get a few bites out of the sandwich. I called to complain to a manager, but there was no manager on duty. After that I vowed to never go back, but since there are limited choices in the neighborhood I ended up back this past Monday. I was the only person there but still had to wait several minutes for someone to take my order. When the guy was finally ready he came over with this angry look on his face and just says "yea?" Not "how may I help you?" or "sorry for the wait." Just "yea?" I started ordering a salad but they didnt have mozzarella cheese so I said I needed a minute to think. You probably had to be there to see the look on his face and his body language but it was screaming "hurry up!" I ended up ordering a sandwich instead because the other mix in items looked like they had been sitting there for a while and I didnt trust them. I asked to speak to the manager regarding the salad situation and rude service but again there was no manager on duty. This time the sandwich was actually edible so I ended up back there today (Wednesday). I asked to speak to the manager so I could tell he or she about my last few visits, but again there was no manager on duty. No surprise this place sucks when the manager is never there. Anyway I ordered the same chicken cutlet sandwich again (when will I learn) and again ended up with the skinniest toughest chicken cutlets ever. I was only able to eat about a third of the sandwich and I would like to warn everyone STAY AWAY FROM SUBSCONCIOUS. BEWARE OF FOOD POISONING, POOR SERVICE, and BARELY EDIBLE FOOD. They dont care at all about service or food quality because students on a budget will eat there regardless. Sad sad sad situation.

I dont understand why this place doesnt have better reviews. Maybe its because people just havent tried the right sandwiches? With that said, when I tried a couple of the vegetarian options, I thought it was very good. But once I tried their meat options, particularly the GPA and Final Exam, thats when I was sold on how great this place is. The Final Exam is probably one of the best sandwiches Ive ever had, and if you eat all the meats in this sandwich, this is definitely what you should order. Otherwise, the GPA is also a great option.

So I was waiting around Teachers College for a friend and I saw this place. I was hungry and I thought the name of the place was clever so I walked towards there. There was a good amount of people in there, so naturally I walked in. I ordered a pastrami sandwich with provolone... 1) The pastrami was not tasty. It was pretty bad. 2) The guy put mozzarella instead of provolone. 3) He put in so much cheese that it was overwhelming. 4) He had to redo my order because he put something on that I didnt want on it.

No great bargain. The salads have shrunk in size over the last few years. An $8 salad will leave you hungry. Make sure you watch as they construct your sandwich. You usually need to correct them on at least 1 thing. The best part of Subsconcious is the sign in the front that says "FACT: SUBSCONSCIOUS GIRLS ROCK" This is hilarious because these are the worst girls on the planet. They are slow, stupid and have an attitude so bad that makes me want to punch them in the face.

This place is definitely one of the worst places to eat near Columbia. Not only is the food quality incredibly poor, but the service is also just as awful. Dont ever think of asking them to cater since they will show up late and bring only half the food you ordered while charging you the full price. In conclusion, just an awful experience all around.

The cooks will treat you with respect if you approach them with a smile (as you should), but if youre on your phone, or are rude, expect similar service. The food is above average, the cashiers are very friendly, but it can get busy (expect at least a 5 minute wait during the breakfast/lunch rush).

Cool deli near Columbia University. Expect to find any and everything from sandwiches to bagels and unique spreads. Great place to go for a quick stop before running to class. The prices are also very reasonable. Although, the vegetable cream cheese I had on my bagel one time didnt taste too well.

The service here leaves something less than desired here. Apparently the prices arent the board arent the right prices. Sandwiches seem to have gone up a dollar from what is posted. I didnt see the sign about price increase anywhere. The sandwiches are good but definitely not worth almost $10

This sub shop is fairly convienent to columbia and has good food. The structure to order is somewhat confusing and the shop is fairly cramped. The food is on the pricier side but the options are many. often has a long wait from order to payment.

Pretty okay place for a sub. Theyll make it however you want, and theres a great set of options. Vegetarians are out of luck here -- youll end up with a pretty sad sandwich. But hey, you made that decision. Better than Subway, thats for sure.

This used to be a good place. Good sandwiches, not pricey. After a reform (owner changed?), they recruited so many new staff, who are not good at making sandwiches. This lowered the quality of the food. They also raised the prices.

After a bad experience, I gave Subsconscious a second chance and was even more disappointed than the first. The staff is too incompetent to either take or fill an order properly or timely. The food would be overpriced for free.
