While looking for places to have my wedding cake made I stumbled across this place. It was literally down the street from my venue. They were very quick to get back to me when I tried to set up a tasting. They have some delicious combinations and I was impressed my quality. There service however, left a lot to be desired. PRO: Good flavors and clearly quality ingredients. PRO: Beautifully decorated and held up will on the minute drive to the venue and later after the wedding. PRO: Cute packing and did customize forks for us with a minimal charge, cute idea of the girl (Nicole) with initially met with! CON: While showing me flavor combos others had customized they then told me they could not customize something at my request. Hmm. CON: Tried to charge $75 delivery fee to go around the corner. Explained it was because tier are difficult to transport. Then when I switched to single tiers the fee was still the same. CON: Speaking of tiers... I got three different prices quoted to me for a tier cake as well as individual tiers... all the backs and forth were quite frustrating and left me with no other option but to go with them and pay the rapidly increasing quote as it was getting close to my wedding day. PRO & CON: The first girl we met with, Nicole, was very helpful and had great suggestions. Great suggestions. However she wasnt clear on the pricing. Melissa, the girl we eventually dealt with was varying degrees of rude. If it had not been so close to the date I would have cancelled the first time I spoke with her. Overall I would recommend going in there for brunch (we had a yummy quiche on one or our visits and the hibiscus tea was excellent) or a cupcake, but I would NOT recommend then for an important event. This doesnt doesnt seem to be a direction they are cultivating; Inflexibility and not including a cup cake or a mini-tier on an anniversary is a clear indication of that. Or perhaps the very high caliber Houston and Austin bakeries are alone in offering that quality of service.

Today was my first experience with Bird Bakery. I remember vaguely reading about its grand opening last year, then forgot about it possibly because I live north of the airport and rarely visit the Alamo Heights area. Then there was a huge write-up in our local newspaper on July 3rd while I was out of town. (Thank goodness my family saves the newspaper for me to read when I get home from business trips.) My son and I had planned to see The Lone Ranger when I got back which we did on July 10th. Well, I saw the movie and LOVED it, then decided it was time to go check out this bakery. Well, everything about it was incredibly super-fantastic! If that is not the biggest group of words to describe something that is the greatest it can be, then please think BIGGER. My son and I loved this bakery. He had the California Turkey salad and was impressed at how tasty it was and totally healthy. I had the best Egg Salad sandwich I have ever tasted in my life. Our cupcakes were to die for and even their homemade chocolate chip cookie. (Took some home too.) Everything is FRESH, every day....no leftovers. And what ever leftovers they have at the end of the day goes to charity! The decor is beyond charming.... a lot like I decorate. The staff were exceptional in their customer service with not only a "Welcome to Bird Bakery" as you walk in, but checked on us during our meal. Lots of smiles were going on by staff and customers. I will go back....have to. My goal is to experience every sandwich and every cupcake over time and have my friends do the same. Oh...and for those wanting something delicious and gluten free...they have that to offer as well. I was totally charmed by todays experience and cannot wait to go back! Thanks Elizabeth & Armie and the whole staff, to include one of the managers Julie, who I had to say hello to. I am retired Air Force so have eaten all over the world. We in San Antonio are so blessed to have Bird Bakery. So go, enjoy and be totally amazed!

I worked for Favor, and while working in Alamo Heights Id get orders from this place a lot, so I decided to try it out for myself. I tried multiple times. Ive been at least 3 times. Tried brownies, cupcakes, lemon bars, cookies. Each time Im so disappointed especially with all the hype this place gets. Its so over priced. I went once, and wanted an iced sugar cookie but they wanted $3.75 for a maybe 2x2in cookie. The walnut chocolatechip cookie was dry and the walnut flavor raw and overpowering. The cupcakes... ugh. The cupcakes were simply disgusting. The frosting was gritty and clearly the frosting design was a rip off of Magnolias, (but Magnolias are so much prettier.) And the cake dry and grainy. The staff isnt good enough either. If youre going for the first time and dont know how to order because their set up is kind of confusing, youll get looked over so many times. Ive been left waiting at the register while the staff help other people over us while our bag is sitting on the back counter. Its over priced, ridiculous and quite frankly- disgusting.

Weve been to Bird Bakery several times now and each visit is just as charming, delightful, and satisfying as the first. We moved to S.A. a couple years ago from Los Angeles and found ourselves missing all the wonderfully charming eateries (especially a great sandwich shop that was walking distance from my work on Sunset Blvd.) Bird Bakery immediately won us over with fresh, tasty sandwiches and cupcakes to rival Sprinkles from Beverly Hills! We were already fans, but the day before Mothers Day we went to visit and the power went out as soon as we started to order. Amelia barely batted an eye and immediately jumped from computer to paper. They even continued to accept credit cards. The entire staff didnt miss a beat, taking orders, serving patrons, topping off drinks, and packing up special orders. If there was a panic in the kitchen due to the loss of power to their appliances, you wouldnt know it. The owner was out of town that day, but youd think that every staff member was personally vested in satisfying every customers request. Bravo!

I was looking for a new little bakery & found this one. Ive only tried a few items though. The lemon bars are amazing, but a little too lemony for me. My bf on the other hand didnt think they were too lemony, he loved them. Bought the fresh strawberry cupcake for my sister and I ended up eating half of it because of how great it tasted. I should have got one for me since I love strawberry cake/cupcake. Got the award winning carrot cake, I never used to like carrot cake, but this one was delicious. My father in law had the Elvis, when I asked him how was it. He replied, that Elvis didnt get a chance to sing, because he finished the cupcake in one bite. Lol so Im guessing it was really good. Now on to the one I really really wanted to try: sea salt caramel. Ive heard good things about this cupcake and was highly disappointed. I didnt like the cake, it was dry and I didnt care for the frosting. The hibiscus tea, I thought it was going to be sweet and it wasnt. Guess that was my fault, I didnt ask.
