Their customer service is horrible and so is the spaghetti. Bought a take out of eggplant parm and spaghetti. There was so much red pepper in the spaghetti it was not edible. When I called about my disappointment which was a day after I bought it and when I was planning to serve it, I was told if I would have brought it back the same day it could have been switched out. WTH...was Alvaro going to throw what I should of returned the same day...back into the pot. I was told they couldnt do anything for me. I guess Alvaro cant afford a plate of spaghetti to a disgruntled patron. Im sick about it. Been coming here for years, bringing out of town guests here, telling everyone Alvaro has THE best Italian food in the area, made big orders for Christmas and new years for many years. They wont ever get another dime from me again. So so so disappointing. The older owners need to set that bratty kid straight about customer service.

Oh boy. I read some reviews and my co worker gave a personal recommendation so I thought I would try it out for lunch. I got the chicken Parmesan with penne pasta. And it was not good . It was bad The moment I opened the box there was a rotten smell and I assumed it was just the smell of the cheese. Then I ate it, the pasta literally tasted like vomit. I dont know if the cheese was bad or the pasta was undercooked or the sauce was bad but that was a very negative experience that I had. I did not even bother with the chicken as I could not bear risking the taste again I tasted 5 pieces of penne pasta and I was done and this was all I could bear. I had a thought maybe It was an acquired taste, I let my wife taste this and she spit it out and she loves penne pasta This was my first experience at Alvero and a very negative last . I just hope the 5 penne pieces I did have dont give me food poisoning

Alvaros was a great spot to get lunch. Its a small cafe that specializes in homemade italian food at the intersection of Green & Peffer Streets in midtown. We stopped there after visiting the Olewine Memorial Library on Nearby 3rd Street. Our lunch consisted of: a salad with artichoke, slices of capicolla ham, provolone cheese, mozzarella cheese, sliced tomatoes, covered in oregano, it came with two slices of bread (which was excellent.) We also had fresh penne with a sausage on the side, along with a roll of bread. It was really nice. Im really glad I took danas advice and went back. I plan on visiting again soon and checking out some of the other things they have to offer: pizza, more desserts, gelato, other pasta and maybe even a soup. I liked it so much I invited some of my friends back for our next outing.

The food is fresh and delicious. The prices are excellent. The owners are friendly. This is the best place to get pizza. Sold by the slice. Large slices. Toppings vary: Plain, Pepperoni, Eggplant (quite good). ~$2.75 (varies by toppings) will completely fill you up. The special for the day is little pricey (~$6.50), but if you are in the mood you will find it abundant and delicious. It is still a good deal. The best way to get there by car from ANY direction is this: Go to Maclay Street Turn southward onto Green Street Park close to the corner when you get to Green and Peffer

I live right next to this place, which is simultaneously a blessing and a curse. Those of you who follow my reviews will know that I dont like eating too many carbs because I like to keep my abs tight for the ladies. This place may have the greatest carbs and sauces Ive ever had so its pretty difficult to resist with it being right near my house. The prices are also incredibly low for what they give you. Here are some mom and pop pizza shops in the area that I am pretty loyal to. But this is the most legit Italian eatery in the area. Its peerless in the Harrisburg area.

Came looking for pizza, and the vegetarian pizza was amazing! Also ended up buying the pastry while waiting, and interesting to see so many fresh and home made meals. Came around 5pm and owner said most things were made in morning, so it wasnt great but would want to go back in the morning to taste how their made. Had the cannoli, doughnut, and baklava, which were pretty good for Harrisburg but would say the pizza is the only reason to return.

I found this place while looking for somewhere in the area that made lobster tails. They sell them and they are amazing. I also bought Amaretti cookies and some delicious rolls, all under $10. They sell gelato, all kinds of meats, cheeses and superb Italian classics. This is well worth the drive and any line you may encounter. We went around 1, and the lunch crowd was dying down. The owners are very nice. I cant wait to go back!

This place is my favorite bakery, pizza shop, sub shop, and place for italian food. They dont have a huge selection of subs, pizza, or dinner, but what they have is all amazing and as good as youll get anywhere. The quality of ingredients and food is truly amazing. If I have one knock, its that they pre-fill the cannoli, and even though they are delicious, they just arent as good that way.

Homemade pasta. homemade bread. Great food. You will either love or hate the atmosphere. It can get busy, although youll still get your food pretty quick, seating can be chaos. Also, The owners will not pamper you just because you complain and want special treatment or free food. Which honestly, I appreciate.

As far as Im concerned these guys can do no wrong. Their pizza is incredible, the crust is the best part, its super affordable. Theres a reason for the line out the door. In fact thats the only thing Id fault them on, its packed out. But thats just a result of making the best food around.

Lina and her husband Sal have by far the best Italian food, pastries and gelato around the area. Their boys also work the counter , nice family business. The only thing they could improve upon is a bigger place. Really, dont miss this place especially if you like Italian food.

Simply outstanding! Bread, antipasto, service, garlic spaghetti, chicken parmigiano, cookies, cannoli, cappuccino were all fantastic. Now my favorite place. Everything made fresh daily. Stuffed, and we brought some home. And the prices are so reasonable!

no grateness that i found in this store. i drove all the way to this store hurdling all the cross street to get here and i just found its just look like walmart standard shop having no taste. My advice limit your expectations about this bakery.

Some of the best Italian food Ive ever had, and its in Harrisburg. Ive never eaten in, buy my girlfriend and I get takeout from here somewhat frequently. Definitely the best eggplant parm Ive ever had! And great owners, always super friendly.

If youve ever seen Cake Boss you know what I am talking about. Check them out - really good lunch, gelato, and bread. The traditional Italian cookies are awesome! Cant go wrong... they should stay open later though.
