I would give them 1 out of 5 stars based on my experience this one time but Ill give them the benefit of the doubt and say that they are not usually this bad. Me and a group of 4 others went to get some dinner at the jewel after a music festival in Newburyport let out (August 30th). Eventually we were given a table in a very odd nook of the restaurant that was really too small to fit 5 people. It was then probably at least 20 or 30 mins later that I had to go and track someone down because nobody had come to us once at that point to get drinks or anything. At that point we put in our orders of 5 dinner entrees and 2 appetizers. The rest of the dinner went out of control down hill from that point that we spent most of the night laughing and making fun of the service. It constantly seemed like we had been forgotten about and that nobody was actually assigned to our table, and it took our food an incredibly long time to come out, and when it did, some people got there food while the rest of the people had to wait another 20 mins or more. Some of the food that came out was really good but at that point we couldnt tell if we were just so hungry that anything would taste good. Some people had ordered lamb tandoori that was very over cooked, and one persons meal was probably finished early and left to sit out and was getting cold by the time it got to him. There was one gentleman who we believe was the bartender that came by at several times during the night to try and look after our table that should probably be put in charge of management because he seemed to be the only one who could calmly keep track of customers. The most discouraging part of all this was that even with the festival ending there really werent so many people in the restaurant that it shouldve caused this much of a calamity!

If you really know Indian food youll notice right away that this is NOT good Indian food. Everything we had was previously prepared and grilled and then re-grilled just to warm it up. The meats were either rubbery or dry. The fish had that "fishy" taste you get when someone doesnt know how to prepare fish. Make no mistake, this is low-end Indian food for people who dont know better. You will be better off just buying some Indian food from the supermarket and heating up it yourself. Also, the guy who took our order had a horribly stained shirt which was sticking out of his pants. All in all minimal effort and hopefully very forgettable experience.

Amazing food, terrible service. Stopped in w my aunt for a quick bite and we were the only people in the restaurant, but two other sets of customers arrived while we were there. There were 3 visible employees who preferred chatting at a table by themselves over waiting on their customers. Then 3 others joined them, with a similar passion (or lack thereof) for their work. Each time we needed service we had to gesticulate and/or stand up and approach them. However, the food was wonderful. Overall, Id recommend it but not if youre in a rush.

For Indians: - for shrimp, they steam it and add it in the gravy or rice just before they bring it to u - any rice item is a joke, they take a curry and add it to plain rice and call it biryani, at least try to cook the meat completely - who adds mushrooms and chopped tomatoes in biryani - next time when you are doing this at least tell them what other veggies they may find in their food other than thats supposed to be there - kheema items are good For Non Indians You will like the taste, just tell them to cook meat properly

My girlfriend and I are regulars at the Jewel and for a good reason - great food, wonderful staff and a more-than-pleasant atmosphere. Ive been to the restaurant at least 50 times and have yet to have a bad experience in any regard! We usually arrive very close to the time the kitchen closes and theyve never failed to accommodate us (well, ok, once we were too late - we missed the kitchen by 10 or more minutes which is understandable). Ive been to a dozen Indian restaurants and Jewel In The Crown is by far my favorite. Go.

I placed an online order which I thought was for delivery (because it asked me for my address) but when I received an email confirmation of my order I was informed it was a pickup order. I phoned to cancel the order and the restaurant never refunded my money. I went into the restaurant shortly after and was told someone would call me to resolve the matter but no one ever called and I never received my refund. Crooks.

My husband and I love this place. Everything is authentic and made fresh here. We were impressed with that on our very first visit - one of many since then. The staff and owners are very friendly and go out of their way to make sure that customers feel welcome and have a great India dining experience. This is a favorite spot when our out of town guests want to enjoy a great India dinner at a restaurant.

Excellent food and waitstaff... The bartenders have no idea whats going on unfortunately... Ive had many experiences while watching them trying to make simple drinks, but failing miserably...(however smiling all the while) and last time i was there i saw a bartender pouring cheap vodka into a grey goose bottle... Yuk... But, nonetheless the food is always really great...

I just simply love this place. The ambience of the restaurant is warm and blend of classic and modern. The menu and the service is great. And the food is just "AWESOOOOOME". Its delicious, lip licking and worth the price. One should surely go and let your tongue and heart feel the taste of India. All the best!!!!!!!

I usually dont like to complain, I know how hard it is to run a restaurant. But the take out food I got last night was absolutely horrible. Maybe the cook was out sick and the janitor cooked it, but it was practically inedible. I will never order from them again.

I ordered the chicken tikka masala and absolutely loved it. This was my first Indian cuisine and I can say that I will definitely be back. The sauce was irrisitable and the chicken was so tender it practically melted in your mouth. So glad I expanded my pallet.

I have no complaints about this restaurant. The chicken vindaloo was spectacular. Very dim lighting, and comfy seating with booths and pillows. A plus.
